In the decoction, Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhino Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) must be added, and Gansui San (Kansui Powder) should be used to insufflate into the root of the tongue and the sides of the tongue. This must not be interrupted at any time for a rapid recovery. If the abscess is severe, processed Baidu Dou (Croton Seed) should be added, and Shangqing Wan (Upper Clearing Pill) swallowed simultaneously.
This is an extremely critical condition. Upon onset, Jiawei Xiaohuang San (Modified Mirabilite and Rhubarb Powder) or Gansui San should be immediately used, with heavy insufflation around the affected area, accompanied by internal administration of the decoction. If there is constipation, Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome) and Mangxiao (Mirabilite) are added, and Shangqing Wan is swallowed. For Xu Hou (Deficiency Throat), Qinhua Wan (Holding and Melting Pill) is held in the mouth and swallowed. If the symptoms are too severe, a small amount of Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) is added to the powder for insufflation; slight delay makes it difficult to save the patient. The juice of Chouhuaniangzi Gen (Root of *Clerodendrum bungei* or similar local herb) is effective when crushed and swallowed.
If there is redness and swelling inside and out, with blockage and obstruction, Yaxiao (Niter), Pengsha (Borax), and Shiyen (Salt) are used, with a small amount of Kaiguan San (Opening Lock Powder) added for insufflation, yielding immediate results. In the decoction, add... [Text fragment]
If the throat and jaw are tightly closed, making insufflation difficult, and there is no treatment available at the moment while the condition is urgent, within moments, Chan Su (Toad Venom) is ground with water and insufflated into the nostrils while the patient lies on their back. [Note by E: Same as "Suo" (Lock). Meaning locking tight.]
This is the most difficult to cure. It is advisable for the patient to calm their spirit and rest quietly. Moxiang San (Musk Powder) should be insufflated five or six times continuously over one day and night until gradual improvement occurs. Qingfei Yin (Lung-Clearing Infusion) should also be taken.
Although it does not endanger life, it is hardest to cure quickly. It is best for the patient to remain patient. Urgently use Moxiang San for frequent insufflation, and take Qingfei Yin, administered slowly.
Urgently use one sheng of Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean), crush it, mix with three bowls of water, pound and extract the juice. Take one zhan per dose, at any time. Then, apply Huaihua Mo (Sophora Flower Powder) externally.
The illness can be cured by decocting and drinking Chouju Ye (Stinking Orange Leaf). If there is pain and swelling, frequent insufflation of Liansha San (Lotus Ash Powder) is advisable.
Liansha San is combined with Qufu Fang (Remove Rot Formula) for frequent insufflation to remove necrotic tissue. Afterwards, Kougan Yao (Mouth Ulcer Medicine) is used, with doubled amounts of Zhufen (Pearl Powder) and Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis), combined again with the Remove Rot Formula to insufflate away the purple discoloration. Use Changrou Yao (Flesh-Growing Medicine) alone, insufflating frequently for several days until cured. For the decoction, nourish yin and descend fire. [Note by E: Gao Jinting said: Patients with this condition have two etiologies: one arises from wind, cold, summer-heat, and heat, with damp-heat steaming in the Yangming channel; the other arises from yin deficiency and empty collaterals, with Shaoyang Gallbladder fire counterflow. When pus gathers at the end of the molar teeth, it is called Ya'ao (Tooth Bite). When it gathers outside the cheek, it is called Tuosai (Cheek Support). When it gathers at the tooth root, it is called Yayong (Tooth Abscess). If not treated urgently, all transform into Gucao Feng (Bone Trench Wind). Treatment should focus on soothing the liver and dispersing stagnation, primarily nourishing yin, assisted by detoxifying and clearing heat. This condition should be studied in conjunction with the following sections for full understanding.]
