To treat Tou Feng (Head Wind).
Da Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, one piece), Yan (Salt, equal parts).
Grind the Da Fuzi into a powder and mix with the salt. Apply a Fang Cun Bi (a square-inch measure) of the mixture to rub onto the head, allowing the medicinal power to penetrate and circulate.
The verse states: How to treat unilateral head wind pain? Rub with equal parts of Aconite and Salt. Diseases of the body shell require external treatment; methods using Horse Fat Plaster and Mulberry Hooks belong to the same category.
The *Ling Shu* records: Mix Horse Fat Plaster and White Wine with Cinnamon Twig, use a Mulberry Hook for traction, apply Mellow Wine mixed with Sichuan Pepper and Ginger, and moxa-warm with cotton wadding. Stop after thirty repetitions. These are all external therapies.
Special reasoning is presented here.
To treat various joint pains, emaciated body, swollen feet feeling as if detached, dizziness, shortness of breath, and a sensation of warmth in the chest with nausea.
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, four liang), Shaoyao (Peony Root, three liang), Gancao (Licorice Root), Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, two liang each), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix, two pieces, processed), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, four liang each), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, five liang).
Take the above nine ingredients, add seven sheng of water, first boil Mahuang until reduced by two sheng, remove the foam on top, then add the remaining herbs and decoct together. Obtain two sheng of liquid. Take seven ge warm, three times a day.
The verse states: For the condition of swollen feet, emaciation, and nausea, Shaoyao three liang and Shengjiang five liang serve as the precedent. Zhimu, Fangfeng, Baizhu, and Guizhi should all be four liang; Fuzi, Mahuang, and Gancao should be balanced at two liang.
Yuansi's commentary: Using Guizhi Tang but removing Zao (Jujube Fruit), adding Mahuang to assist in unblocking Yang Qi, adding Baizhu and Fangfeng to strengthen Spleen Qi, Shaoyao, Fuzi, Zhimu...
To treat Li Jie Bing (Joint-Grid Disease) characterized by inability to flex and extend accompanied by pain. It also primarily treats Hong Kong Jiao (Gouty Arthritis/Podagra) with pain and stiffness preventing flexion and extension.
Mahuang (Ephedra Herb), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root, prepared, three liang each), Wutou (Aconiti Radix, five pieces).
First, cut the Wutou into small pieces. Add two sheng of honey and decoct until one sheng remains, then remove the Wutou. Take the other four ingredients, add three sheng of water, decoct until one sheng remains, filter out the dregs.
The verse states: When Li Jie pain prevents flexion and extension, or when Hong Kong Jiao pain is equally severe, Shaoyao, Mahuang, and Gancao are all three liang, and five grains of Wutou are boiled evenly with honey.
You Zaijing states: This is the orthodox method for treating Cold-Dampness Li Jie. The pathogenic factors of Cold-Dampness cannot be expelled without Mahuang and Wutou. Since the disease resides in the sinews and joints, it is not merely in the skin... leaving pathogenic factors.
