Indicated for Wind-Dampness with a floating pulse, heaviness of the body, sweating, and aversion to wind.
*Fangji Huangqi Guizhi Tang* (Stephania and Astragalus Decoction):
- *Fangji* (Stepheriae Rhizoma) - 1 liang
- *Gancao* (Licorice Root), honey-fried - 0.5 liang
- *Baizhu* (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) - 7 qian 5 fen
- *Huangqi* (Astragali Radix) - 1 liang 1 fen (another version uses 1 liang)
Crush the herbs to the size of hemp seeds. Take 5 qian bi (approx. 5-10 grams depending on measurement standard) per dose. Add 4 slices of fresh ginger (*Shengjiang*, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), 1 jujube (*Dazao*, Jujubae Fructus). Decoct in 1.5 cups of water until reduced to 0.8 cup. Strain and take warm. If there is wheezing, add *Mahuang* (Ephedrae Herba) 3 fen.
Song:
Heaviness of body, floating pulse, sweating. (The previous section had no sweat, thus using *Mahuang* to induce sweating; this section has sweating, thus using only *Fangji* to expel dampness.) Aversion to wind.
Modification Song:
If wheezing occurs, add 5 qian of *Mahuang*. If the stomach is disharmonious, add *Shaoyao* (Paeoniae Radix Alba). The character "fen" in "3 fen" is pronounced as the departing tone. "7 qian 5 fen" is currently ineffective. [Text appears corrupted or refers to specific dosage nuances regarding cold pathogens or *Xixin*].
The above formula treats excess pathogen with no sweating, following the principles of *Guizhi Tang* (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) and *Mahuang Tang* (Ephedra Decoction). For deficiency with spontaneous sweating, *Mahuang* is not used to disperse, but only *Fangji* is used to drive out dampness. After taking the medicine, sensations such as insects crawling under the skin or ice-cold feeling below the waist are signs of dampness descending and exiting. However, without *Huangqi*, *Baizhu*, and *Gancao*, how can the transformation and transportation be managed? Regarding the efficacy of *Fangji*, my father's commentary on the *Shennong Bencao Jing* (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica) is detailed enough, so no further elaboration is needed.

For Sun-Yang Zhongre (Summerheat-Heat in the Taiyang stage), which is Ye (Heatstroke). Indicated for patients with sweating, aversion to cold, fever, and thirst.
*Baihu Tang* (White Tiger Decoction):
- *Zhimu* (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma)
- *Shigao* (Gypsum Fibrosum)
- *Gancao* (Licorice Root)
- *Jingmi* (Oryza Sativa Germen)
- *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma)
Commentary by Yuan Xi: Baihu (White Tiger) is the name of the Western deity, associated with Autumn, characterized by clear and severe governance. When cool winds arrive and white dew falls, humid summer heat dissipates. This decoction acts similarly...
Indicated for Taiyang Zhongshi (Summerheat-Dampness in the Taiyang stage), presenting with fever, pain, heaviness, and a faint pulse. This is caused by injuring oneself with cold water in summer, causing water qi to circulate within the skin. This decoction is indicated.
*Yiwu Gudi Tang* (Single Melon Pedicel Decoction):
- *Gudi* (Cucumeris Fructus) - 27 pieces
Crush the melon pedicels. Decoct in 1 sheng of water until reduced to 5 he. Strain and take warm.
Song:
One must truly recognize Yin and Yang syndromes. Pain and heaviness due to heat reveal the cause. Summerheat lingering with dampness is named Yin Summerheat; twenty-seven sweet melon pedicels are precious.
Commentary by Yuan Xi: This substance can remove water qi. Once water is removed, summerheat has no basis and heals itself. You Zaijing said: Although summerheat is a Yang pathogen, its qi often combines with dampness, manifesting as Yin patterns. Removing water resolves summerheat; this is the method for treating summerheat complicated by dampness.
