(Commentary: This chapter encompasses eighty therapeutic methods and a total of eighteen prescriptions. They are not listed here now, likely due to textual omission.)
Prescription for poisoning from consuming various mushrooms, characterized by chest oppression, mental confusion, and near-death state.
*Shengji Zonglu* (General Records of the Holy Grace) states: Mushrooms grow on rotting wood, and fungi sprout in decaying soil; both are generated by the steaming and stagnation of yin-damp qi. Since they are not produced by harmonious qi, their nature must be toxic. If mistakenly ingested, they cause incessant vomiting and diarrhea, severe cutting pain in the heart and abdomen, and in severe cases, blackening of the body leading to death. In the eleventh and twelfth lunar months, do not consume *Xie* (Allium macrostemon / Chinese leek).
[Commentary by Jian]: *Xie* has a pungent flavor that disperses and travels to the Lung Qi; consuming it causes excessive phlegm and saliva.
The heart (core) of *Kui* (Malva verticillata / Musk mallow) should not be eaten as it harms the human body.
[Commentary by Jian]: The core of *Kui* is toxic; leaves with abnormal backsides are also toxic and should not be consumed.
Prescription for irritability or restlessness after eating.
According to the interpretation in *Yizong Jinjian* (Golden Mirror of Medical Tradition), this is likely forced and unnatural. Since this prescription appears among vegetable-related methods, it should presumably treat vegetable poisoning. Examining *Ishinpō* (Medical Heart Formulas), which cites Ge Shi’s prescription: "For poisoning from eating various vegetables leading to madness, vexation, distress, vomiting, diarrhea, and near-death state." Boil fermented soybean juice (*Chih*) and drink one to two sheng. It is speculated that what Ge Shi cited was originally the text of Zhang Zhongjing, but the current version reads "eating irritability or restlessness" (*Shi Zao Huo Zao*), which is due to textual corruption and omission. It might be a miswriting of the four characters "vegetable-eating irritability" (*Shi Cai Fan Zao*). (The extant version of *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* occasionally lacks this prescription, but naturally possesses other prescriptions for treating various vegetable poisons, and its preceding and following entries generally share the same methods as this chapter.)
Chao Yuanfang states: Wild vegetables such as celery and nymphaeaceae often have poisonous water insects or leeches attached to them. Humans who mistakenly ingest them will be poisoned by these creatures, resulting in chest oppression, mental confusion, and restless anxiety. This can serve as mutual corroboration.
Among vegetables, there is water henbane (*Shui Lang Dang*).
Here, the term "struck by wind" (*Zhong Feng*) refers to madness. The *Book of Later Han* (Hou Hanshu), Biography of Zhu Fu, states: "Struck by wind, running madly."
In spring and autumn seasons, dragons carry essence into celery.
Note: "Tang" (sugar/candy) is the character "Xing". Yi (maltose syrup) is weaker than Xing; thus, Yi includes glue-like maltose, while Xing includes hard maltose. (Jiyi cites *Shiming*, using modifications by Li Shizhen; the original texts, as well as *Fangyan*, *Shuowen Jiezi*, and *Guangyun*, should be consulted for verification.)
