Instruct the patient to stand upright with arms hanging down, positioned squarely on a flat wooden or stone surface. The eyes should not look askance, and the body should not be bent or twisted. Remove the upper garments. Take a straight staff, use the center of the bamboo stalk (Ganxin) to measure three Cun (Chinese inches, based on the patient's own proportions), and fold it into one-and-a-half Cun. Both ends mark the position of Shenshu (Kidney Transport, BL23).

The method begins on the left side for males and the right side for females. Starting from the transverse crease at the wrist, use a thin strip of bamboo (Biemie) to measure to the point where the flesh ends at the middle finger, excluding the nail bed, and cut it off. Then, take another thin strip and measure one Cun (based on the patient's own proportional measurement). Have the patient remove all clothing. Place a large bamboo pole across the patient's hips, and have two assistants slowly lift the patient so that the feet are suspended about five Cun above the ground. Two other assistants should stand on either side to support the patient and prevent swaying. Use the previously measured long strip to mark the vertical bamboo pole. Starting from the coccyx, measure along the spine to the end of the strip, and mark this point with a pen; this is not the moxibustion point. Instead, use the strip measuring one Cun, fold it in half to obtain two Cun total, and measure horizontally one Cun to each side from the midpoint. These are the correct moxibustion points. Apply thirty-seven moxa cones (Zhuang). These two acupoints are specifically used to treat carbuncles, malignant sores, back abscesses, furuncles, scrofula, and various wind diseases. Moxibustion here yields extremely effective and miraculous results.

First, take a longer piece of bamboo stalk center. Compare it against the palm of the male's left hand or the female's right hand, measuring from the transverse crease at the base of the thumb to the inner edge of the fingernail, and mark with ink. Next, compare it against the index finger (Yanzhi), aligning it level with the middle finger, and add one Cun to the previous mark, tying a knot to create a reference marker. Then, have the patient sit upright, remove the upper garment, and place the split bamboo stalk over the neck...
