Abdominal and gastrointestinal disorders should be treated by retaining the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint; lumbar and back conditions should be sought at the Weizhong (BL40) acupoint. Head and neck discomforts are best addressed by selecting the Lieque (LU7) acupoint; facial and oral ailments are collected by the Hegu (LI4) acupoint.
Zusanli (ST36) and Neiting (ST44) acupoints are the profound secret for regulating abdominal diseases. Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) acupoints can thoroughly resolve head and face pathologies. When lower back and upper back pains are interconnected, Weizhong (BL40) and Kunlun (BL60) acupoints should be selected. If there is pathology in the chest and neck, refer to the application of the "Thousand Gold" acupoints.
Cuanzhu (BL2) and Sizhukong (TE23) acupoints govern headaches; they are suitable for both lateral and frontal headache types via needling. Additionally, Dadu (SP2) should be needled to eliminate pathogenic factors using the reducing method, and Fengchi (GB20) should be needled to a depth of 3 fen. First, apply the reducing method to Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4); this will permanently eradicate disease and prevent invasion. Following these needling protocols ensures efficacy, bringing immediate peace to the condition.
For cephalalgia, wind-headache, and toothache, seek treatment at Hegu (LI4) and Sanjian (LI3). For eye pain, needle Dadu (SP2); use needling techniques within Taiyuan (LU9). For toothache, needle Lüxi (i.e., Zhaohai, KI6) to a depth of 3 fen; for dental pain, follow previous instructions to locate points on the upper body. Further deduce from Dadu (SP2), employing cross-needling (left disease treated on right, right disease on left), and carefully locate the points.
Tinghui (GB2) combined with Tinggong (SI19), needled to a depth of 7 fen with the reducing method, treats deafness in the ears. Ermen (TE21) is also reduced by approximately 3 fen, and 7 moxa cones are applied to Tinggong (SI19). In the Large Intestine Meridian, apply the reducing method to Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) to a depth of 7 fen. If physicians understand this principle, efficacy will be seen upon needling.
Pain in the shoulders, back, and scapulae: needle Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) to a depth of 7 fen. If not cured, add Chize (LU5) to a depth of 1 cun, and sequentially needle Sanjian (LI3). Insert each point 7 fen deep; Shaoshang (LU11) and specific heart meridian points address cardiac meridians. Adhering to the methods of depth and location, diseases of two or three meridians are dispelled immediately.
From the throat down to the umbilicus, myriad critical diseases arise in the epigastrium. When heart qi pain occurs, the chest feels knotted and hard; cold damage causes vomiting, hiccups, and accumulation of saliva. Lieque (LU7) is needled to 3 fen; Fengchi (GB20) is needled to 3 fen with the reducing method. The Sanjian (LI3) points on both hands and Zusanli (ST36) are used; Zhongchong (PC9) is also needled to 5 fen.
When sweating is difficult, needle Wan Gu (SI4) to a depth of 5 fen with the reducing method, as you should know. Yuji (LU10), Jingqu (LU8), and Tongli (HT5) are needled to 1 fen with the reducing method to induce profuse sweating. Sanjian (LI3) in the fingers and Zusanli (ST36) are appropriate; the thumb area should be needled to 5 fen. If sweat permeates the entire body, one who understands this is a true physician.
Weakness in the four limbs due to wind-pathogen invasion, dry and difficult-to-open eyes, and attack by myriad diseases. Mental confusion, fatigue, and muteness are treated by unblocking with Fengchi (GB20) and Hegu (LI4). The Sanjian (LI3) points on both hands are subsequently reduced; Zusanli (ST36) is combined with Taichong (LR3). Insert each point 5 fen deep; following the principles of Ying-Sui (following and opposing) manipulation yields miraculous results.
Fengchi (GB20) and various interdigital points on the hands and feet: right-sided hemiplegia is called Pian Feng (Wind Paralysis), while left-sided is Tan (Paralysis). Needle each to 5 fen followed by reduction, and apply 7 moxa cones for bodily peace. Zusanli (ST36) and Yinjiao (SP8) are used for Qi-moving reduction, measuring 1 cun 3 fen according to the disease. Add 37 moxa cones to each point, ensuring immediate recovery from paralysis.
For malaria, needle Quchi (LI11); Jingqu (LU8) and Hegu (LI4) are also suitable. Needle these two points to a depth of 5 fen; only then will the malaria leave the body. If not cured, add Sanjian (LI3), needling deeply to 5 fen without worry. If accompanied by qi pain and increased chills and fever, use Jianshi (PC5) without delay.
Pain in the legs, knees, and waist due to痞气 (masses/qi stagnation): penetrate the Guāngǔ (Hūgǔ/Huāgǔ - likely referring to Huantiao GB30 or similar hip region point given context, but text says 'Huagu') to a depth of 7 fen. Also needle Fengshi (GB31) and Zusanli (ST36), applying equal tonification and reduction to a depth of 1 cun 3 fen. Reduce Yinjiao (SP8) by 1 cun, and still needle Xingjian (LR2) to 5 fen. Advancing and retreating gently according to respiration dispels disease instantly.
When elbows and knees hurt, needle Quchi (LI11); inserting 1 cun is advantageous. Treat left disease by needling the right, and right disease by needling the left; following this method, reducing qi by 3 fen yields remarkable effects. For knee pain, needle Dubi (ST35) to 3 fen; Zusanli (ST36) and Yinjiao (SP8) require seven treatments. Carefully seeking the underlying principle achieves the功 (efficacy) of dispelling disease in a moment.
