Sanli (ST36) and Neiting (ST44), Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) connect. Weizhong (BL40) pairs with Chengshan (BL57), Taichong (LR3) connects with Kunlun (BL60). Huantiao (GB30) and Yanglingquan (GB34), Tongli (HT5) stands alongside Lieque (LU7). One must comprehensively bear and thoroughly understand their usage. Only the wise can transmit this knowledge; do not speak of it frivolously to the unworthy.
Sanli is located below the knee, three cun down between two tendons. It can relieve heart and abdominal pain, and is good at treating cold in the stomach. It addresses intestinal borborygmus and diarrhea, swelling and fullness, and edema of the calves. For emaciation caused by Cold Damage (Shanghan), Qi Gu (abdominal distension with masses), and various other diseases, it is effective. After the age of thirty, acupuncture on this point can restore clear vision. To locate the point, lift the foot; removing disease is not difficult.
Neiting is located on the medial side of the toe, belonging to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. It treats cold extremities (Jue), where patients prefer quietness and dislike noise. It treats tinnitus, sore throat, frequent yawning, and toothache. For malaria with loss of appetite, one becomes alert after needling.
Quchi is found in the depression when the elbow is bent. It treats elbow pain and hemiplegia (Pian Feng) where the limb cannot be gathered. It addresses inability to bend the arm as if drawing a bow or combing hair. For laryngeal obstruction causing suffocation, continuous fever, and generalized urticaria, recovery occurs immediately after needling.
Hegu is in the tiger's mouth, between the divergent bones of the thumb and index finger. It treats headache and facial swelling, malaria with alternating chills and fever, body heat with sweating, dim vision, toothache, epistaxis, trismus, and difficulty speaking. Observe depth during needling, and the patient will naturally find peace.
Weizhong is in the center of the popliteal fossa, over the artery. It treats heavy waist unable to move, a heavy sensation along the spine. It addresses wind epilepsy, muscle spasms, and severe febrile diseases. It helps when the knee is difficult to flex and extend; health returns upon needling.
Chengshan is in the fleshy part of the calf (fish belly). It manages lower back pain, hemorrhoids, and difficult defecation. It treats podagra (Hongxiangjiao) with swollen soles and cold, sour feet. For cholera with acute muscle cramps, needling brings relief.
Taichong is three cun posterior to the joint of the big toe. The pulsation here indicates life and death; it eliminates convulsions and wind-stroke. It treats swollen throat, chest distension, immobility of both feet, hernias with unilateral scrotal swelling, and cloudy vision. It also treats lower back pain with miraculous effect upon needling.
Kunlun is behind the lateral malleolus, sought along the slight pulse of the heel. It treats heavy arms, low back and sacral pain, and imbalance between Yang and Yin vessels. It addresses headache, stiff spine, sudden asthma with chest fullness, inability to walk, and groaning upon moving the foot. Seek this point for healing.
Huantiao is in the hip joint. Lie on your side, extend the lower leg, and flex the upper leg to locate it. Needling can cure debilitated bodies. It treats cold wind and cold hips, feeling bound and cramped. It relieves heavy, painful legs where movement causes sighing. This point is best for rescuing critical conditions requiring acupuncture.
Yanglingquan is one cun lateral to the lower knee. It treats knee swelling and numbness, heaviness in the waist and back when sitting or rising. It addresses facial swelling, chest fullness, cold bi-syndrome, and hemiplegia. It helps those who cannot sit up due to effort, resembling an old man in bed. After inserting the needle five fen deep, its miraculous power is distinct.
Tongli is one cun posterior to the wrist crease on the ulnar side. It treats aphasia ("wanting to speak but unable"), mental restlessness. Excess patterns present with heavy limbs, redness of the head, cheeks, and face. Even with normal speech, there may be frequent yawning and obstructed qi in the throat. Deficiency patterns present with inability to eat, coughing, and a haggard face. A fine needle inserted slightly reveals its miraculous efficacy.
Lieque is above the wrist crease. Cross the hands with index fingers; the point is where the tip of one finger rests. It specializes in treating migraines and hemiplegia with numbness in the elbow. It addresses phlegm flooding upward, trismus. If one understands tonification and seduction techniques, the disease yields swiftly.
