The marvel of the Eight-Method Divine Needle lies in the Flying-Thrust Method (Feiteng Fa), which is most extraordinary. Acupuncture needles and stone lancets are internally and externally linked, with Water and Fire elements deduced within. Qi moves through meridians up and down, driving away illness swiftly as if by touch. Advancing and retreating follow principles, while tonification and sedation adhere to welcoming and following techniques. Application resembles steering a boat, responsiveness akin to releasing a crossbow trigger. When Qi gathers, it dissipates; body pain shifts under the fingers. Such profound secrets are known by few.
On days ending in Jia (甲) or Ji (己), the hour pillar begins at Bing Yin (丙寅). On days ending in Yi (乙) or Geng (庚), the sequence proceeds from Wu Yin (戊寅). For days ending in Bing (丙) or Xin (辛), it starts at Geng Yin (庚寅); for Ding (丁) and Ren (壬), one follows sequentially to Ren Yin (壬寅). For Wu (戊) and Gui (癸), the time is fixed at Jia Yin (甲寅). The convergence of the Five Gates (Wu Men) is the fundamental cause.
For Jia and Ji, the Chen (辰), Xu (戌), Chou (丑), and Wei (Wei) hours total ten. For Yi and Geng, Shen (申) and You (酉) hours serve as nine. For Ding and Ren, Yin (寅) and Mao (卯) hours constitute eight. For Wu and Gui, Si (巳) and Wu (午) hours suit seven. For Bing, Xin, Hai (亥), and Zi (子), the number is also seven. One can know this by calculating the daily stem and branch.
For Jia and Ji, Zi (子) and Wu (午) hours appropriately use nine. For Yi and Geng, Chou (丑) and Wei (未) hours undoubtedly use eight. For Bing and Xin, Yin (寅) and Shen (申) hours count as seven. For Ding and Ren, Mao (卯) and You (酉) hours naturally correspond to six. For Wu and Gui, Chen (辰) and Xu (戌) hours each have five. Si (巳) and Hai (亥) hours add four to complete the set. For Yang days, divide by nine; for Yin days, divide by six. If the remainder exists, deduce the acupoint below.
In this method, Jia (甲), Bing (丙), Wu (戊), Geng (庚), and Ren (壬) are Yang days; Yi (乙), Ding (丁), Ji (己), Xin (辛), and Gui (癸) are Yin days. Calculate the resulting number based on the day and hour stems and branches. For Yang days, divide by nine (e.g., 1x9, 2x9, 3x9, 4x9); for Yin days, divide by six (e.g., 2x6, 3x6, 4x6, 5x6). The remainder corresponds to the trigram numbers associated with the day and hour. Knowing the trigram reveals which acupoint opens.
For example, on a Jia Zi (甲子) day during a Wu Chen (戊辰) hour: The day stem Jia yields 10, and the day branch Zi yields 7. The hour stem Wu yields 5, and the hour branch Chen yields 5. The sum is 27. This is a Yang day. Dividing 27 by 9 gives a quotient of 3 (3x9=27) with a remainder of 9. A remainder of 9 corresponds to the Li Trigram (Li Gua, 离卦), indicating that Lieque (LU7, Colliculus) opens.
Another example: On a Yi Chou (乙丑) day during a Ren Wu (壬午) hour: The day stem Yi yields 9, and the day branch Chou yields 10. The hour stem Ren yields 6, and the hour branch Wu yields 9. The sum is 34. This is a Yin day. Dividing 34 by 6 gives a quotient of 5 (5x6=30) with a remainder of 4. A remainder of 4 corresponds to the Xun Trigram (Xun Gua, 巽卦), indicating that Linqi (GB41, Foot-Shu Point) opens. The rest follow this pattern.
