The sinew channel of Foot-Taiyang begins at the little toe, ascends to bind at the ankle, and obliquely ascends to bind at the knee; its descending branch follows the lateral aspect of the foot, binding at the heel, ascends along the Achilles tendon, and binds at the popliteal fossa (Weizhong); its collateral branch binds at the lateral aspect of the popliteal fossa, ascends along the medial aspect of the thigh, runs parallel with the sinew channel of Foot-Shaoyang, and ascends to bind at the buttock, ascends flanking the spine to the nape, its branch enters obliquely to bind at the root of the tongue; its straight branch binds at the occiput, ascends to the head, descends to the face, and binds at the nose; its branch serves as the upper net of the eye, descending to bind at the inner canthus (Jingming); its branch from the posterior axillary fold binds at Jianyu (LI15); its branch enters the axilla, ascends out of the supraclavicular fossa, and ascends to bind at Wanggu; another branch exits the supraclavicular fossa, obliquely ascends out of the vertex. Its disorders include pain and swelling in the little toe and heel, spasm in the popliteal fossa, opisthotonos, stiffness in the neck, inability to raise the shoulder, pulling pain in the axilla and supraclavicular fossa, and inability to turn the head left or right. Treatment involves burning needle puncture (fire needle), using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Mid-Spring.
The sinew channel of Foot-Shaoyang begins at the fourth toe, ascends to bind at the lateral malleolus, ascends along the lateral aspect of the lower leg, and binds at the lateral aspect of the knee; its branch arises separately from the fibular head, ascends to the thigh, the anterior part binds above Futu (ST32), the posterior part binds at the sacrum; its straight branch ascends to cover the costal margin, ascends to the anterior axillary fold, ties to the chest and breast, and binds at the supraclavicular fossa. The straight branch ascends out of the axilla, penetrates the supraclavicular fossa, emerges anterior to the Foot-Taiyang channel, follows behind the ear, ascends to the frontal angle, intersects at the vertex, descends to the mandible, ascends to bind at the ear pre-auricular area, its branch binds at the outer canthus, serving as the external维系 (support) of the eye. Its disorders include pain and convulsion in the fourth toe, pulling convulsion in the lateral knee, inability to flex and extend the knee, stiffness in the sinews, forward pulling of the thigh, backward pulling of the sacrum, pain at the costal margin, upward pulling of the supraclavicular fossa, chest, and breast, and stiffness in the cervical supporting sinews. If injured on the left affecting the right, the right eye cannot open; the pathogen travels up the right corner, follows the Qiao vessels, crosses from left to right. Thus, injury to the left corner renders the right foot useless. This is called Wei Jin Xiang Jiao (Crossed Sinew Interaction). Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Early Spring.
The sinew channel of Foot-Yangming begins at the middle three toes, binds at the dorsum of the foot, obliquely ascends laterally to adduct to the fibula, ascends to bind at the lateral aspect of the knee, the straight branch ascends to bind at the hip joint (Bitou), ascends along the hypochondrium to attach to the spine; its straight branch ascends along the abdomen, binds at the knee; its branch binds at the fibular head, merging with the Foot-Shaoyang sinew channel; its straight branch ascends along Futu, binds at the thigh, gathers at the genitalia, spreads over the abdomen, binds at the supraclavicular fossa, ascends to the neck, ascends flanking the mouth, merges with the Foot-Taiyang sinew channel, descends to bind at the nose, and ascends to merge with the Foot-Taiyang. The Foot-Taiyang sinew channel is the upper net of the eye, the Foot-Yangming sinew channel is the lower net of the eye; its branch binds at the ear from the cheek. Its disorders include pain and convulsion in the middle toe and calf, hardness of the foot dorsum, convulsion in Futu, swelling of the anterior thigh, hernia, abdominal sinew stiffness, pulling pain to the supraclavicular fossa and cheek, sudden deviation of the mouth and eye, inability to close the eyes in acute cases, and inability to open the eyes in heat cases. Cold in the cheek sinews causes stiffness and pulling of the mouth; heat causes flaccidity and inability to control, resulting in deviation. Treatment uses horse fat plaster applied to the stiff side, white wine mixed with cinnamon applied to the flaccid side, pulled with a mulberry wood hook, placed over a pit filled with fresh mulberry ash, height adjusted to sitting level, hot compress with horse fat plaster on the stiff cheek, drinking good wine, eating roasted meat; those who do not drink wine must strive to do so, performing three patting motions. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Late Spring.
The sinew channel of Foot-Taiyin begins at the medial end of the big toe, ascends to bind at the medial malleolus; its straight branch connects to the medial epicondyle of the tibia, ascends along the medial thigh, binds at the thigh, gathers at the genitalia, ascends to the abdomen and binds at the umbilicus, runs inside the abdomen, binds at the ribs, scatters in the chest; its internal branch attaches to the spine. Its disorders include pain in the big toe and medial malleolus, convulsive pain, pain at the medial tibial condyle, pulling pain from the medial thigh to the hip, pulling pain in the genitalia, downward pulling pain to the umbilicus and hypochondrium, and pulling pain to the chest and interior of the spine. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Early Autumn.
The sinew channel of Foot-Shaoyin begins below the little toe, runs parallel with the Foot-Taiyin sinew channel, obliquely walks under the medial malleolus, binds at the heel, combines with the Foot-Taiyang sinew channel, ascends to bind below the medial tibial condyle, rises with the Taiyin sinew channel, ascends along the medial thigh, binds at the genitalia, runs inside the spine, flanks the paraspinal muscles, ascends to the nape, binds at the occiput, combining with the Foot-Taiyang sinew channel. Its disorders include plantar convulsion, and pain and convulsion at all sites where it passes and binds. Diseases here primarily manifest as epilepsy, spasms, and clonic seizures. External involvement prevents bending forward; internal involvement prevents extending backward. Yang diseases cause opisthotonos preventing bending; Yin diseases prevent extending. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. Internal cases require warm compresses and herbal medicine. If the sinew twists frequently and severely, death is inevitable and untreatable. It is called Bi syndrome of Mid-Autumn.
The sinew channel of Foot-Jueyin begins above the big toe, ascends to bind anterior to the medial malleolus, ascends along the lower leg, binds below the medial tibial condyle, ascends along the medial thigh, binds at the genitalia, connecting all sinews. Its disorders include pain anterior to the medial malleolus, pain at the medial tibial condyle, thigh pain and convulsion, dysfunction of the genitalia. Injury internally leads to inability to stand; injury by cold leads to retraction of the penis; injury by heat leads to flaccidity and prolapse. Treatment focuses on moving water and clearing Yin pathogenic factors. For convulsions, treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Late Autumn.
The sinew channel of Hand-Taiyang begins above the little finger, binds at the wrist, ascends along the medial aspect of the arm, binds posterior to the medial epicondyle of the elbow, stimulation responds in the little finger, enters to bind in the axilla; its branch goes posteriorly along the axillary fold, winds around the scapula, follows the neck, emerges anterior to the Foot-Taiyang channel, binds at Wanggu behind the ear; its branch enters the ear; the straight branch emerges above the ear, descends to bind at the mandible, ascends to connect with the outer canthus. Its disorders include pain in the little finger, posterior edge of the medial epicondyle, pain along the medial arm into the axilla, axillary pain, posterior axillary fold pain, scapular pain pulling to the neck, tinnitus and pain in the ear pulling to the mandible, prolonged closure of eyes before vision returns, neck sinew stiffness causing neck swelling, and neck cold-heat symptoms. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. For swellings, repeat sharp needling. The main branch ascends to Quya, follows anterior to the ear, connects to the outer canthus, ascends to the mandible, binds at the frontal angle. Disorders at these sites include pain and convulsion. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Mid-Summer.
The sinew channel of Hand-Shaoyang begins at the tip of the ring finger, binds at the wrist, runs through the arm, binds at the elbow, winds around the lateral aspect of the elbow, ascends to the shoulder, travels to the neck, merging with the Hand-Taiyang sinew channel; its branch enters at the angle of the jaw to tie to the root of the tongue; its branch ascends to Quya, follows anterior to the ear, connects to the outer canthus, ascends to the mandible, binds at the frontal angle. Disorders at sites passed include pain and convulsion, and tongue rolling. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Late Summer.
The sinew channel of Hand-Yangming begins at the tip of the index finger, binds at the wrist, ascends along the arm, binds at the lateral elbow, ascends to Jianliao (TE14), binds at the mandible; its branch winds around the scapula, flanks the spine; the straight branch ascends from Jianjing (GB21) to the neck; its branch ascends to the cheek, binds at the zygoma; the straight branch ascends anterior to the Hand-Taiyang channel, ascends to the left frontal angle, networks the head, descends to the right mandible. Disorders at sites passed include pain and convulsion, inability to raise the shoulder, and inability to turn the head left or right. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Early Summer.
The sinew channel of Hand-Taiyin begins above the thumb, runs up the finger, binds posterior to the Thenar eminence, runs along the lateral aspect of Cun Kou, ascends along the arm, binds at the elbow, ascends to the medial axillary border, enters the axilla, emerges from the supraclavicular fossa, binds at Jianliao (SI14 - *Note: Text says 'Jian Qian', likely referring to Jianliao or similar anterior shoulder point*), ascends to bind at the supraclavicular fossa, descends to bind in the chest interior, scatters through the diaphragm, merges below the diaphragm to reach the costal margin. Disorders at sites passed include pain and convulsion, severe pain leading to Xi Ben (accumulation in the chest), tight hypochondrium, and hematemesis. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points.
The sinew channel of Hand-Jueyin begins at the middle finger, runs parallel with the Hand-Taiyin sinew channel, binds at the medial elbow, ascends along the medial arm, binds at the axilla, descends to scatter anterior and posterior flanking the hypochondrium; its branch enters the axilla, scatters in the chest, binds at Danzhong (CV17). Disorders at sites passed include pain and convulsion anteriorly, chest pain, and Xi Ben. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. It is called Bi syndrome of Early Winter.
The sinew channel of Hand-Shaoyin begins at the medial side of the little finger, binds at the pisiform, ascends to bind at the medial elbow, ascends into the axilla, intersects with Hand-Taiyin, flanks the interior of the breast, binds in the chest, runs down the arm to tie at the umbilicus. Disorders include internal urgency resembling Fu Liang (a mass in the heart region), and lower elbow network issues. Disorders at sites passed include pain and convulsion. Treatment involves burning needle puncture, using the number of times until improvement is known, and using painful points as Shu points. Cases with Fu Liang involving expectoration of blood or pus are fatal and untreatable. Sinew channel diseases: cold causes opisthotonos and sinew stiffness; heat causes sinew flaccidity and inability to use, leading to impotence. Yang stiffness causes opisthotonos; Yin stiffness prevents bending forward. Fire needle (quenching needle) treats cold stiffness; for heat-induced flaccidity, fire needles should not be used. It is called Bi syndrome of Late Winter.
For Foot-Yangming and Hand-Taiyang, if the sinews are stiff, the mouth and eyes deviate, and they cannot see suddenly due to stiffness. Treatment is as described above.
