The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: The Small Intestine is the official responsible for receiving and storing, transforming substances. It also says: The Small Intestine is a red intestine.
The lower opening of the Stomach is the upper opening of the Small Intestine, located two cun above the umbilicus, where water and grain are separated here. The upper opening of the Large Intestine is the lower opening of the Small Intestine. Here, clear and turbid substances are separated; fluid seeps into the Bladder, while dregs flow into the Large Intestine.
There are nineteen acupoints on the Hand-Taiyang Meridian: Shaose (SI1), Qiangu (SI2), Houxi (SI3) are gathering points; Wanggu (SI4), Yanggu (SI5), Yanglao (SI6) are arranged like ropes; Zhengzheng (SI7), Xiaohai (SI8) are at the lateral auxiliary elbow; Jianzhen (SI9) walks to above the pearl in front of the ear (totaling thirty-eight acupoints on both sides).
This meridian originates at Shaose (SI1) and terminates at Tinggong (SI19). Selecting Shaose (SI1), Qiangu (SI2), Houxi (SI3), Wanggu (SI4), Yanggu (SI5), Shaohai (HT3)*, the Jing-Well, Ying-Spring, Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source, Jing-River, and He-Sea points originate from the tip of the little finger, follow the lateral aspect of the hand up to the wrist, emerge from the malleolus region straight upwards, follow the lower margin of the arm bone, emerge between the two bones on the medial side of the elbow, ascend along the lateral posterior margin, emerge from the shoulder joint, wind around the scapula, intersect at the shoulder, enter the Supraclavicular Fossa, connect with the Heart, follow the pharynx downwards through the Diaphragm to reach the Stomach, and belong to the Small Intestine; its branch passes from the Supraclavicular Fossa through the neck to the cheek, reaches the outer canthus of the eye, and re-enters the ear; another branch diverges, follows the cheek upwards to the zygomatic area (sound 'zhuo'), reaches the nose, and arrives at the inner canthus of the eye. This meridian has abundant blood and scarce qi; qi and blood pour into it during the Wei hour (1 PM - 3 PM).
It is the Fu organ of Bing Fire; the pulse is detailed at the Left Cun position. When this meridian is diseased, the face is pale, heat is felt before the ears, aversion to cold occurs, and there is swelling and pain on the inner and outer aspects of the shoulder and arm. Deep palpation reveals a full Heart pulse; if excess, the pulse is full, accompanied by vexation, fullness, and sores on the mouth and tongue; superficial palpation reveals a deficient Small Intestine pulse; if deficient, the pulse is empty, accompanied by restlessness and cyanosis of the lips with white stool. Swelling of the jaw that prevents turning requires clearing phlegm and descending fire; a bent waist difficult to move or walk requires draining dampness and promoting heat elimination. If urination is frequent, use Wuyao Yizhi Wan (Aucklandia and Alpinia Oxyphylla Pill), cooked with Yam; if essence and qi are not secure, use Poria and Polyporus combined, requiring wax-melted fluid for administration. For Small Intestine hernia, soak Fennel and Ginger in Green Salt; for Cold Essence in the Kidney Palace, stir-fry Melia Azedarach and add Mupo (Note: likely a textual variant or error, retained as per source). Talcum Stone is cold and can treat various Lin syndromes; Agarwood is warm and can circulate all Qi. Boil Amaranth root for hematuria; decoct Plantago leaf for bloody Lin syndrome. Draw fresh spring water and drink hair ash; decoct Mint frequently and mix with Amber. Heat entering the Small Intestine causes red leukorrhea, treated with Fennel, Melia Azedarach, and Angelica Sinensis; pathogen returning to the Large Intestine changes to Paste Lin syndrome, treated with Talcum Stone, Gold Sand (likely Cinnabar or similar mineral), and Licorice. I have examined that Oyster Shell and Dendrobium tonify, while Euphorbia Lathyris and Gold Sand purge. Morinda Officinalis, Aucklandia, and Fennel are warm; Scutellaria Baicalensis, Akebia Stem, and Trichosanthes Root are cool. Notopterygium Rhizome and Ligusticum Wallichii guide upward; Phellodendron Bark, Poria, and Polyporus act downward. Carefully read the principles of Materia Medica, slightly establish the steps for treatment, do not adhere to personal views, the subtlety lies in verbal transmission.
