In the treatment, needle the Jianyu (LI15) acupoint to dredge the damp-phlegm of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, then moxa the Feishu (BL13) acupoint to treat the root cause; thus, the phlegm-qi can be cleared, and the arm can be raised. By the time he served as Minister of Personnel, his physique became even more robust.
In the Xinwei year, Guo Huang, the Ancestor Governor-General of Zhejiang, suffered from hematochezia (blood in stool), which recurred after remission. When asked about the cause of the disease, I replied: The Heart generates blood, the Liver stores it, and the Spleen controls it. The *Neijing* states: "If food and drink exceed by double, the intestines and stomach will be injured," leading to intestinal dysentery with bleeding. These are words of former sages that can be verified. Little do they know that the intestines and stomach themselves do not contain blood; it is mostly due to hemorrhoids hidden within the anus. This may be triggered by excessive dietary injury, or by fatigue, desire, or anger, disturbing the hemorrhoidal orifices, causing blood to exit with the stool. Although former experts distinguished between distant blood and proximate blood, there is actually no distinction involving the Heart, Lungs, or Large Intestine. There is also the condition of qi deficiency and thin intestines, where blood seeps in from the Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) levels. Since the pathogenic factors differ, one must seek the root cause. Needle the Changqiang (GV1) acupoint to a depth of two fen, apply seven moxa cones; the internal hemorrhoids would dissipate, and bleeding would cease. However, at that time, official duties were busy, leaving no time for acupuncture and moxibustion. Several years later, upon promotion to Minister of Works, the previous illness flared up severely, and only then did he realize that hemorrhoids were hidden within the anus.
