Gongsun (SP4) pairs with Neiguan (PC6), and Lieque (LU7) can alleviate conditions associated with Zhaohai (KI6). Linqi (GB41) and Waiguan (TE5) serve as the principal and coupled points, respectively; Houxi (SI3) harmonizes correctly with Shenmai (BL62). Needling the left side for right-sided ailments reveals upper-lower correspondences; using intention to connect meridians facilitates extensive massage. Tonification and sedation follow the principles of Ying-Sui (following and opposing) and Shun-Ni (compliance and opposition); the Five Gates and Eight Methods are the true principles.
Locating Acupoints: Gongsun (SP4) consists of two points, belonging to the Spleen Meridian. Located one cun posterior to the base of the big toe on the medial side, in the depression; lift the foot and locate it when the soles of both feet face each other. Needle depth is one cun. It treats diseases of the heart, abdomen, and five zang organs, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Neiguan (PC6).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Nine types of heart pain persisting with chest oppression, Jie Xiong (chest binding) and regurgitation difficult to stop, accumulation of wine and food causing bowel sounds, water-food qi disorders and diaphragmatic disease. Umbilical pain, abdominal pain, hypochondriac distension, intestinal wind, malaria, and heart pain. Retained placenta, blood confusing the heart, diarrhea—Gongsun (SP4) brings immediate relief.
Locating Acupoints: Neiguan (PC6) consists of two points, belonging to the Pericardium Meridian. Located two cun proximal to the palm crease between the two tendons; locate it by making a tight fist. Needle depth is one point-two cun. It treats diseases of the heart, gallbladder, spleen, and stomach, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Gongsun (SP4).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Chest and epigastric fullness, bloating, bowel sounds, diarrhea, rectal prolapse, difficulty swallowing due to alcohol injury, hard masses protruding across the hypochondrium. Women's hypochondriac pain and heart pain, Jie Xiong (chest binding) with internal urgency unbearable, unresolved Shanghan (cold damage) leading to Jie Xiong hall, malaria—Neiguan (PC6) stands alone in treatment.
Locating Acupoints: Houxi (SI3) consists of two points, belonging to the Small Intestine Meridian. Located in the lateral bone gap posterior to the base of the little finger, above the tip of the clenched fist. Needle depth is one cun. It treats diseases of the head, face, neck, and nape, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Shenmai (BL62).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Limb contracture and tremors, stroke with inability to speak, epilepsy, headache, swollen eyes with flowing tears, leg, knee, back, and waist pain throughout. Neck stiffness from unresolved Shanghan (cold damage), toothache, cheek swelling, throat issues, numbness in limbs from traumatic injury, night sweats—Houxi (SI3) should be pricked first.
Locating Acupoints: Shenmai (BL62) consists of two points, belonging to the Bladder Meridian. Located in the depression below the lateral malleolus, at the junction of red and white skin; locate it while standing upright. Needle depth is one cun. It treats wind pathogens affecting the four limbs and carbuncle-toxin diseases, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Houxi (SI3).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Stiffness and swelling of the lower back and legs, aversion to wind, spontaneous sweating, headache, thunder-head syndrome, red eyes, brow ridge pain, limb numbity and contracture, cold arms. Mastitis, deafness, epistaxis, epilepsy, joint irritability, generalized edema with profuse sweating—Shenmai (BL62) needling yields results.
Locating Acupoints: Zulinqi (GB41) consists of two points, belonging to the Gallbladder Meridian. Located on the lateral side between the fourth and fifth toes, within the bone-tendon gap at the metatarsophalangeal joint, one cun away. Needle depth is five fen; release blood through the skin extending one cun. It treats diseases of the four limbs, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Waiguan (TE5).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Stroke of the limbs preventing movement, pain, numbness, fever, and contracture, wind headaches, swelling of the head, neck, and cheeks, swollen red painful eyes with dizziness. Toothache, deafness, swollen throat, floating wind with itching and tendon pulling, leg pain, hypochondriac distension affecting the ribs—Zulinqi (GB41) needling proves effective.
Locating Acupoints: Waiguan (TE5) consists of two points, belonging to the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) Meridian. Located on the dorsal aspect of the hand, two cun proximal to the wrist crease, in the depression between the radius and ulna bones; locate it with the hand resting flat. Needle depth is one point-two cun. It treats wind-cold affecting meridians and skin diseases, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Zulinqi (GB41).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Swelling and pain in joints with cold knees, paralysis of the four limbs, wind headaches, pain attacking muscles and bones inside and outside the back and hips, pain in the head, neck, and brow ridges. Heat and numbness in limbs, night sweats, traumatic injury with swollen red eyes, Shanghan (cold damage) with spontaneous sweating and surface heat—meeting Waiguan (TE5) exclusively is crucial.
Locating Acupoints: Lieque (LU7) consists of two points, belonging to the Lung Meridian. Located one point-five cun proximal to the wrist crease on the radial side; locate it by crossing hands and following the index finger to the bone gap at the end. Needle depth is eight fen. It treats diseases of the heart, abdomen, hypochondrium, and five zang organs, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Zhaohai (KI6).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Hemorrhoids, malaria, swollen bowels, dysentery, spitting blood, hematuria, coughing phlegm, toothache, swollen throat, difficult urination, chest and abdominal pain with choking. Postpartum rigidity and inability to speak, lower back pain, blood disorders, umbilical coldness, retained dead fetus, diaphragmatic cold—Lieque (LU7) disperses breast abscesses frequently.
Locating Acupoints: Zhaohai (KI6) consists of two points, belonging to the Kidney Meridian. Located in the depression below the medial malleolus; have the person sit steadily and locate it when the soles of both feet meet. Needle depth is one point-two cun. It treats diseases of the zang and fu organs, corresponding as principal and coupled points with Lieque (LU7).
Treating Diseases: [Xijiangyue Verse] Throat obstruction, dribbling urine, Qi pain in the bladder, bowel sounds, accumulation of food, wine, and alcohol in the abdomen and umbilicus, vomiting, diarrhea, gastric reversal, tight bowels. Dystocia, coma, accumulations, intestinal wind with frequent bleeding, diaphragmatic Qi stagnation with Qi nodules—Zhaohai (KI6) certainly contributes merit.
