Yellow Emperor asked: When people reach the age of fifty, their movements and actions all decline. Is it because their essence is about to be exhausted? Qibo replied: People nowadays treat wine as if it were a thick drink, regard reckless behavior as normal, engage in sexual intercourse while drunk, exhaust their essence through lust, and dissipate their true qi. They do not know how to maintain fullness, fail to regulate their spirit at appropriate times, seek only momentary pleasure, go against the joy of life, and have irregular daily routines. Therefore, they decline before reaching fifty. The teachings of the sages are that the body may labor without becoming fatigued, and the spirit and qi will follow in harmony. Beautiful colors do not strain the eyes, and licentious desires do not confuse the mind. Whether wise or foolish, virtuous or unworthy, one is not disturbed by external things, thus conforming to the Dao. Such individuals can live to a hundred years old without decline in movement and action because their virtue is complete and they remain unharmed. Prolonged viewing damages blood; prolonged lying down damages qi; prolonged sitting damages flesh; prolonged standing damages bones; prolonged walking damages sinews. Someone asked: There is a disease characterized by fullness and distension in the chest and hypochondrium, which hinders eating. Before food enters the mouth, one smells a fishy and foul odor, clear nasal discharge occurs, bloody saliva is expectorated first, the four limbs are cold, dizziness occurs, and there is frequent bleeding from both bowels and urine. How does this arise? It was answered: This disease is named "Blood Withering" (Xue Ku). It arises from massive blood loss during youth. If sexual intercourse is engaged in while drunk, the middle qi is exhausted and the liver is injured, causing menstrual flow to become scanty or cease entirely. Treatment involves using Cutula Sepiae (Cuttlefish Bone) and Ru Ye (Euphorbia Root), combined into pills with Quque Egg (Quque's Egg) as a binder, sized like small beans. Take five pills before meals, washed down with Bouyu Juice (Abalone Juice) to promote intestinal lubrication and nourish the injured liver. Someone asked: What is the nature of Labor Wind (Lao Feng)? It was answered: Labor Wind manifests below the lungs. Its symptoms include stiffness of the neck and back, blurred vision, expectoration of phlegm resembling mucus, aversion to wind, and chills. This constitutes the disease of Labor Wind. Asked: How should it be treated? It was answered: The treatment aims to relieve difficulty in bending and extending. For those with abundant essence, improvement occurs in three days; for middle-aged persons, in five days; for those with deficient essence, in seven days (The *Qianjin Fang* states: Observe whether clarity returns within three to five days). The patient coughs up green-yellow phlegm, resembling pus, large as a bean, expelled from the mouth or nose. If not expelled, it injures the lung; injury to the lung leads to death. Symptoms include shortness of breath, a damp and cold sensation on the body, rapid breathing, soreness and heaviness of the bones, lethargy, and inability to move. Tonify the Shaoyin (Kidney) meridian. Shortness of breath with discontinuous respiration, and weak qi upon movement, indicate tonifying the Shaoyin meridian and draining blood stasis from collateral vessels. Blood stasis in the chest, fullness in the chest and hypochondrium, pain in the diaphragm preventing prolonged standing, and flaccidity with coldness in the knees, are treated by Zusanli (ST36). A feeling of obstruction under the heart with hematemesis is treated by Shangwan (CV13). Hematemesis accompanied by panting, hypochondriac pain, dry mouth, heart pain radiating to the back, and aggravation by coughing (which causes kidney pain), is treated by Burong (ST17). Expectoration of blood with chills and dry throat is treated by Taiyuan (LU9). Hemoptysis is treated by Daling (PC7) and Ximen (PC4). Hematemesis with rebellious qi is treated by Shenmen (HT7).
