The miraculous method passed down by the spiritual doctor is a precious treasure carried at all times. The methods of tonification and sedation, based on respiration, are exquisite; their value in treating diseases is worth a thousand gold pieces. For men, to tonify deficiency, one performs the technique during exhalation with clockwise rotation; to sedate excess, one performs the technique during inhalation with counter-clockwise rotation. For women, the tonification method involves sitting and coordinating with inhalation; the sedation method involves exhaling and seeking points on the exterior root.
Houxi (SI3) belongs to the Small Intestine and Sanjiao meridians; Lieque (LU7) belongs to the Lung meridian, while Neiguan (PC6) is associated [note: text implies association or pairing]; Gongsun (SP4) and Zhaohai (KI6) correspond to the Spleen and Kidney meridians respectively; Linqi (GB41) belongs to the Gallbladder meridian; Shenmai (BL62) belongs to the Bladder meridian.
For headache, eyebrow twitching, and pain in the waist and legs; for epistaxis knowing whether it is due to broken wind (tetanus), first needle Houxi (SI3) and Shenmai (BL62). Applying the miraculous divine skill of respiratory tonification and sedation yields excellent results. For leg pain, hernia, and accompanying headache, use the divine needles of Shenmai (BL62) and Linqi (GB41). For toothache, use Neiguan (PC6) and Lieque (LU7), and further seek Gongsun (SP4) and Zhaohai (KI6).
For diaphragmatic qi, vomiting, and difficulty digesting food, needle Neiguan (PC6) and Gongsun (SP4); apply tonification and sedation at Zhaohai (KI6) to facilitate eating, descend qi, and open the Ying and Wei circulation. For cough and vomiting of unknown cause, and constipation difficult to relieve, where various prescriptions fail to cure, Gongsun (SP4) and Lieque (LU7) demonstrate miraculous efficacy.
For abdominal fullness and distension where qi is unbearable, tonify Neiguan (PC6) and sedate Gongsun (SP4) [literal translation of "Neiguan tonification/sedation is Gongsun"]; when costal pain causes frequent groaning, use golden needles at Lieque (LU7) and Neiguan (PC6).
When heart qi pain is unbearable, use Neiguan (PC6), Zhaohai (KI6), and Gongsun (SP4); for throat bi with swelling, pain, and blocked qi, use golden needles at Zhaohai (KI6) and Lieque (LU7). When qi pain occurs, tonify Gongsun (SP4), and needle Zhaohai (KI6), Neiguan (PC6), and Lieque (LU7); for cold damage causing abdominal fullness and chest binding, first needle Neiguan (PC6) and Gongsun (SP4).
For throat bi with swelling, pain, and blocked qi, use needles at Neiguan (PC6) and Shenmai (BL62) to unblock; aphonia and muteness are symptoms of stroke; use Zhaohai (KI6), Neiguan (PC6), and Wuhui (DU16). Carefully needle Wuhui (DU16) due to wind pathogenic factors; Waiguan (TE5), Zhaohai (KI6), and Houxi (SI3) also have merit.
For trismus and convulsive wind, Neiguan (PC6) and Lieque (LU7) have divine efficacy; for fever and tongue stiffness making speech difficult, opening the orifice at Zhaohai (KI6) brings peace.
For back pain, arm pain, and deafness, differentiate treatment by needling Waiguan (TE5) and Houxi (SI3); for mid-back pain making extension and flexion difficult, use Shenmai (BL62) and Houxi (SI3).
For cough, wheezing, and constipation, use golden needles at Gongsun (SP4) and Zhaohai (KI6); for chronic malaria, toothache, and small intestine pain, Lieque (LU7) is effective for severe constipation.
For urinary obstruction and painful dribbling, needle Shenmai (BL62) and Houxi (SI3) at the depression; for irregular menstruation in women, seek Zhaohai (KI6), Gongsun (SP4), and Neiguan (PC6).
For uterine bleeding and blood mountain collapse (menorrhagia), use Neiguan (PC6), Zhaohai (KI6), and Gongsun (SP4); for red eyes with unbearable pain, use Lieque (LU7) and Waiguan (TE5) to open the Ying and Wei circulation.
If a physician masters this divine method, ten thousand taels of gold will not be enough to buy it; treating diseases becomes as inevitable as shadow following form, and all kinds of stubborn diseases are cleared instantly.
It is also said:
The method of flow and distribution is hardest to seek; respiration is controlled in the hand. Exhalation is Yang, needle rotates clockwise; inhalation is Yin, needle moves counter-clockwise like water flowing upstream.
After three to five breaths, Qi and Blood flow throughout the body.
The Qian trigram corresponds to Gongsun (SP4), Gen trigram to Neiguan (PC6); Zhen trigram to Waiguan (TE5), Xun trigram to Houxi (SI3); Li trigram to Lieque (LU7), Kun trigram to Shenmai (BL62); Dui trigram to Zhaohai (KI6), Kan trigram to Linqi (GB41). Tonification and sedation, floating and sinking, distinguish reverse and smooth movements; grasping the timing and respiration makes it not difficult. This is the passed-down secret divine needle method.
