Regarding shoulder and back soreness and pain, various acupuncture and moxibustion texts have detailed descriptions. One should treat according to the specific symptoms via acupuncture or moxibustion. If the pain starts in the back and then radiates to the shoulder, this is caused by pathology in the Gaohuang acupoint. *Qianjin Yaofang* and *Waitai Miyao* indeed state that pressing the area reveals traction towards the shoulder. One should moxa Gaohuangshu (BL43), and the shoulder and back will naturally cease to hurt. I once suffered from shoulder and back pain; after moxa-ing Gaohuang, the shoulder pain persisted. I then moxa-ed Jianjing (GB21) three moxa cones, and it healed. From this, I know that even if one moxa-es Gaohuang, other points must not be neglected.
