(For Bi syndrome due to dampness leading to numbness and insensitivity, also seen in numbness and insensitivity of the hands and feet)
Geshu (BL17), (recorded identically in *Mingtang*): Treats a constant sensation of dampness on the body. (*Tongren* records it for Pi accumulation.) Fenglong (ST40): Governs excessive dampness in the body. (*Qianjin*) Quchi (LI11), Lieque (LU7): Govern the body... frequent chills. Zhongfeng (KI7): Governs Wei-Jue syndrome (flaccidity and cold extremities). Numbness and insensitivity of the body. Shortness of breath with heavy, damp sensations. Heyang (BL56): Governs heaviness in the knees and thighs. Loubu (SP9): Governs long-standing Damp-Bi preventing walking. *Tongren* states: inability to stand for long periods. Xuanzhong (GB39): Governs Damp-Bi without swelling. Spasm of the thigh tendons and pain in the lower leg. Juegu (GB39, alias Xuanzhong): Governs pain in the thighs and trunk. Shaking of the knee and shin bones. Sour pain, Bi obstruction, and numbness. Tendon contraction. Soreness and breaking sensations in all joints. Linqi (GB41): Governs general Bi syndrome. Chills and shivering. Shangqiu (SP5): Governs Bone-Bi accompanied by irritability and fullness. For any case of bodily numbness and insensitivity, first select Jinggu (BL64), then select Zhongfeng (KI7) and Juegu (GB39). All should be reduced. Zhongfeng (KI7): Governs Wei-Jue syndrome. Numbness and insensitivity of the body. Shortness of breath with heavy, damp sensations. Swelling of the knees. Fengshi (GB31): Governs flaccid, lax Wei-Bi. Cold intestines causing pain and numbness. Zhongdu (GB38): Governs pain caused by cold qi residing between the muscle layers. Bitter Bi with numbness and insensitivity. Yangguan (GB33): Governs pain on the lateral aspect of the knee. Inability to flex or extend. Numbness and insensitivity in the lower leg Bi. Juegu (GB39): Governs sour Bi with numbness and insensitivity. Also governs heaviness of the body. (See above.) Huantiao (GB30): Treats Cold-Wind-Damp Bi. (*Tongren* records it for lower back pain.) Taikou (ST38): (See Knee Pain entry.) Treats Damp-Bi. Xia [missing character/context]: Treats internal invasion of Cold-Damp. (See Menstruation entry.) Weizhong (BL40): Treats Wind-Damp Bi. (*Mingtang* records it for weak legs.) Xialian (ST37): Treats unilateral Wind, Wind-Heat, and Cold-Bi leading to paralysis. Wind-Damp Bi. After the healing of moxa scars, Cold-Bi resolves immediately. Yuji (LU10): Treats Bi wandering to the chest and back. (*Mingtang* records it for chills and fever, *Tongren* agrees.) Treats Cold-Bi causing pain in the calves and knees. Spasm and urgency of the waist and feet. Ascending cold qi from the feet. Inability to stand for long periods. Sometimes listlessness and drowsiness. Heaviness of the hands and feet. Gradual emaciation is called "Fulian Disease." It makes people extremely devoid of affection. Often sorrowful and unhappy. Forgetfulness with erratic joy and anger. If such symptoms occur, one should moxa Xuanzhong (GB39) and Juegu (GB39) according to age (one moxa cone per year of age). One application cures it; do not moxa again. If it recurs after many years, apply moxa again according to the method. If one desires more moxa, apply seven cones after seven days. (*Qianjin Yifang*) The Treatise on Deficiency and Damage states: Diseases arise from the Five Labors. Once the Five Labors are established, the Heart and Kidney are damaged first. When the Heart and Kidney are invaded by pathogenic factors, the Six Extremes arise. The first is Qi Extreme. Qi Extreme causes... insufficiency of the five zang organs, external invasion of pathogenic factors, often resulting in Cold-Damp Bi, etc. It also states: The Five Labors, Six Extremes, and Seven Injuries, along with the Seven Emotions and accumulations, when transforming into disease, can severely cause Great Wind, laxity and urgency, Damp-Bi with numbness and insensitivity, hemiplegia, tendon contraction, spasm of the four limbs, and infertility, etc.
