All pain, itching, and sores/ulcers are attributed to the Heart. Sweat is the external manifestation of the Heart; internally it manifests as Blood, externally as sweat. Damp-heat clashing together transforms into sweat.
All wind diseases causing tremors and vertigo are attributed to the Liver. The complexion is the floral manifestation of the Liver; tears are the fluid of the Liver; sinews are the surplus of Blood; nails are the surplus of bones.
All dampness diseases causing swelling and fullness are attributed to the Spleen.
All coughs and panting are attributed to the Lung.
All bone and sinew pain are attributed to the Kidney. Bones are the essence of the Kidney; teeth are the surplus of bones.
All joint ailments are attributed to the Gallbladder.
The "Five Hearts" refer to the palms of both hands, the soles of both feet, and the region of the Heart organ itself.
The head is governed by the Du Mai (Governing Vessel), Bladder Meridian, and Gallbladder Meridian.
The nasopharynx (Sang) is governed by the Du Mai (Governing Vessel), Liver Meridian, and Bladder Meridian.
The eyes are governed by the Liver Meridian. The white part of the eye is governed by the Lung; the pupil by the Kidney; the black part (iris/cornea) by the Liver; the area between black and white by the Spleen; the inner canthus by the Bladder and Large Intestine; the outer canthus by the Gallbladder and Small Intestine.
The face is governed by the Heart, Large Intestine, and Stomach Meridians.
The ears are governed by the Stomach, Small Intestine, and Sanjiao (Triple Burner) Meridians.
The nose is governed by the Lung and Du Mai (Governing Vessel).
The mouth is governed by the Spleen organ.
The teeth are governed by the Kidney organ. The upper gum and lips are governed by the Stomach; the lower gum and lips by the Large Intestine.
The upper lip is governed by the Stomach.
The tongue is governed by the Heart, Kidney, and Spleen Meridians.
The throat is governed by the Stomach, Kidney, and Heart Meridians.
The chest is governed by the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), Lung, Heart, Pericardium, and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel).
The abdomen is governed by the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), Spleen, Liver, Kidney, and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel).
The lower abdomen is governed by the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner), Liver, and Kidney.
The hypochondrium is governed by the Liver and Gallbladder Meridians.
The back is governed by the Bladder and Du Mai (Governing Vessel) Meridians.
The shoulders are governed by the Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Sanjiao (Triple Burner) Meridians.
The waist is governed by the Kidney and Liver organs.
The four limbs are governed by the Spleen and Stomach.
Muscles are primarily governed by the Spleen.
Skin and hair are primarily governed by the Lung.
Voice is primarily governed by the Lung.
The nine orifices are governed by the Heart.
Diseases of the five Zang organs are treated according to their respective Zang organs.
Lung disease: Lung distension with fullness, panting, and coughing; pain in the suprascapular fossa (Quepen); severe cases involve crossing arms over the chest and experiencing mental confusion/dizziness, known as Arm Jue syndrome. Restlessness, chest fullness, pain along the anterior medial aspect of the arm, and heat in the palm. Excess pathogenic factors cause shoulder/back wind-pain, sweating, stroke-like symptoms, frequent urination, and yawning; deficiency causes shoulder/back pain, aversion to cold, shortness of breath, weak respiration, change in urine color, and uncontrolled defecation.
Large Intestine disease: Governs diseases arising from fluids. Toothache, yellow eyes, dry mouth, nasal congestion/epistaxis, throat obstruction, pain in the anterior shoulder, and inability to use the thumb and index finger. Yang excess and Yin deficiency cause heat and swelling along the meridian pathway; Yin excess and Yang deficiency cause chills.
Stomach disease: Shivering chills, desire to stretch, frequent yawning, dark complexion, aversion to people and fire, startle at the sound of wood, palpitations, desire to stay alone behind closed doors. Severe cases involve climbing high to sing, discarding clothes and running. Abdominal distension, warm malaria with sweating, nasal congestion/epistaxis, facial distortion, neck swelling, throat obstruction, massive abdominal edema. Excess causes heat in the anterior body, knee/patella swelling, rapid digestion with hunger, and yellow urine; deficiency causes cold in the anterior body, abdominal distension, and inability to use the middle toe, known as Gai Jue syndrome. The Stomach governs Blood.
Spleen disease: Stiffness and pain at the root of the tongue, vomiting after eating, epigastric pain, abdominal distension, frequent belching (relief after passing gas), heavy body unable to move, inability to eat, restlessness, heart pain, cold malaria, loose stools, masses (Jia), watery diarrhea, jaundice, inability to lie down, swelling of the medial thigh and knee, inability to use the big toe, and Jue syndrome.
Heart disease: Dry throat, heart pain, thirst with desire to drink, yellow eyes, hypochondriac pain, known as Arm Jue syndrome. Pain along the posterior medial aspect of the arm and heat in the palm.
Small Intestine disease: Throat pain, swollen mandible, inability to look back, shoulder feeling like being pulled, elbow feeling like being broken, deafness, yellow eyes, swollen cheeks/mandible, pain in the lateral neck, shoulder, and elbow, inability to use the little finger.
Bladder disease: Headache striking like a thrust, eyes feeling like they will fall out, neck feeling like being pulled, spinal pain, waist feeling like breaking, thighs unable to bend, ankle feeling bound or torn, known as Ankle Jue syndrome. The Bladder governs sinews; diseases include hemorrhoids, malaria, mania, epilepsy, yellow eyes, tearing, nasal congestion/epistaxis, pain in the neck, back, waist, sacrum, and feet, and inability to use the little toe.
Kidney disease: Hunger without desire to eat, dark complexion like charcoal, coughing up blood, wheezing/hissing sounds, desire to rise when sitting, blurred vision ("KTKT"), heart feeling empty/hungry. Deficiency causes fearfulness, palpitations as if hunted, known as Bone Jue syndrome. Heat in the mouth, dry tongue, swollen throat, rebellious Qi, dry/painful throat, restlessness, heart pain, jaundice, pain in the intestines, spine, buttocks, and medial posterior thigh, flaccidity/Jue syndrome, lethargy, and heat/pain in the soles.
