When performing acupoint stimulation, the body must be kept straight, and the limbs should not be curled. When stimulating points in a sitting position, the body must not lean forward or backward; when standing, it must not tilt to either side. If the acupoints are not located accurately, burning the muscle tissue is futile, and enduring pain brings no benefit (from *Qianjin Fang*).
For point location, if the patient is sitting, moxibustion should be applied while sitting; if standing, while standing; if lying down, while lying down. Whether sitting or standing, the body must be upright and straight. Any movement will prevent finding the true acupoint (from *Rumen*).
In ancient times, ropes were used for measurement, but ropes tend to shrink, leading to inaccurate point location. Now, thin bamboo strips are used to measure proportions, which is more accurate for treating diseases. Some use waxed paper strips, but thin bamboo breaks easily, and waxed paper sticks to the hands. Using rice straw cores is easier and superior to paper due to its lack of expansion or contraction (from *Zisheng Jing*).
People vary in age, height, and body fatness. One must carefully consider and calculate the measurements. Observe muscle textures, joint gaps, and depressions, and press with the hand until the patient feels relief. Only by doing so meticulously and calmly can one find the true acupoint (from *Qianjin Fang*).
In the Wu and Shu regions, moxibustion is commonly practiced using the "Ashi Point" method. This involves pressing on the affected area; if it corresponds to the disease site, regardless of whether it is a standard acupoint, immediate relief indicates success, termed "Ashi." Moxibustion and acupuncture at these points are effective. *Rumen* refers to this as the "Tianyue Point" (from *Zisheng Jing*).
For male patients, use the left middle finger; for females, the right middle finger. Measure the distance between the two transverse creases on the second phalanx as one cun. All acupoint locations and moxa cone sizes are based on this method (from *Jufang*).
For males, use the left hand; for females, the right hand. The distance between the two transverse creases on the second phalanx of the middle finger is one cun, known as the "Same-Body Cun." This method is widely used for curing diseases and serves as the standard. The Bronze Man Acupuncture Chart states: take the inner length of the middle finger as one cun. This is what the *Neijing* refers to as "Same-Body Cun" (from *Zisheng Jing*).
Dou Hanqing's Same-Body Cun method involves bending the middle finger and thumb into a ring shape, measuring the distance between the two inner angles where they intersect as one cun.
Using the inner side of the middle finger as the Same-Body Cun is the general rule. However, for the head, chest, back, and abdomen, there are flexible methods, and one should not adhere rigidly to a single standard (from *Gangmu*). For the extremities, the Same-Body Cun is used (from *Shenyng Jing*).
**Head Proportions:**
From the anterior hairline to the posterior hairline is divided into 12 segments, totaling 1 chi 2 cun. If the anterior hairline is unclear, measure 3 cun upward from the glabella. If the posterior hairline is unclear, measure 3 cun upward from Dazhui (GV14). If both are unclear, the total is 1 chi 8 cun (from *Shenyng Jing*). Horizontal head measurements: from the inner canthus to the outer canthus is one cun. From Shenting (GV24) to Qucha (GB7), Qucha to Benshen (GB13), and Benshen to Touwei (ST8) are each 1.5 cun. From Shenting to Touwei totals 4.5 cun (from *Shenyng Jing*).
**Chest/Thoracic Proportions:**
The horizontal distance between the nipples is 8 cun. From Tiantu (CV22) to Shanzhong (CV17) vertically is 6 cun 8 fen. Descending 1 cun 6 fen reaches Zhongting (CV16). From Tiantu to Zhongting totals 8 cun 4 fen (from *Shenyng Jing*).
**Back Proportions:**
From Dazhui (GV14) to the coccyx comprises 21 vertebrae, totaling 3 chi. The upper seven vertebrae: each is 1 cun 4 fen 1 li, totaling 9 cun 8 fen 7 li. The middle seven vertebrae: each is 1 cun 6 fen 1 li. The 14th vertebra aligns with the umbilicus, totaling 2 chi 1 cun 1 fen 4 li. The lower seven vertebrae: each is 1 cun 2 fen 6 li. The second row flanking the spine is 1.5 cun on each side; excluding the spine (1 cun), the lateral space is 4 cun total. The third row flanking the spine is 3 cun on each side; excluding the spine (1 cun), the lateral space is 7 cun total (from *Shenyng Jing*).
**Abdominal Proportions:**
From the xiphoid process to the umbilicus along the midline is 8 cun. If the xiphoid process is absent, measure from the costal angle to the umbilicus, totaling 9 cun. From the umbilicus to the pubic hairline horizontally is 5 cun. Horizontal measurements for the chest and abdomen use the nipple-to-nipple 8 cun method (from *Shenyng Jing*).
**General Body Measurements:**
For a person of 7 chi 5 cun height: from below the hairline to the chin is 1 chi. From the laryngeal prominence to the xiphoid process (Jiuwei bone) is 1 chi 3 cun. Xiphoid process to Tianshu (ST25) is 8 cun. Tianshu to Henggu (KI11) is 6.5 cun. Henggu to the upper border of the medial epicondyle is 1 chi 8 cun. Upper to lower border of the medial epicondyle is 3.5 cun. Lower border of the medial epicondyle to the medial malleolus is 1 chi 3 cun. Medial malleolus to the ground is 3 cun. From the popliteal fossa to the dorsum of the foot is 1 chi 6 cun. Dorsum of the foot to the ground is 3 cun. Shoulder to elbow is 1 chi 7 cun. Elbow to wrist is 1 chi 2.5 cun. Wrist to the proximal interphalangeal joint of the middle finger is 4 cun. Distal interphalangeal joint to fingertip is 4.5 cun (from *Ling Shu*).
**One-Fu Method:**
To measure one Fu, place the hand palm-down with four fingers extended together. The width across the transverse joints of the four fingers constitutes one Fu (from *Zisheng Jing*).
