The Du Mai (Governing Vessel) originates from the lower extreme (Huiyin, CV1), runs alongside the interior of the spine, ascends to the Fengfu (DU16) acupoint, enters the brain, reaches the vertex, follows the forehead down to the nasal bridge, and belongs to the Sea of Yang Meridians. The Du Mai has twenty-seven acupoints in total.
*Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing* (Illustrated Manual of Acupoints for Moxibustion and Acupuncture): "Du" means "capital" or "metropolis," representing the convergence of all Yang meridians, and is the master of males. *Yi Jia Ru Men* (Introduction to Medical Practice).
Suliao (DU26): Located at the center of the nasal column. Some say it is at the tip of the nose (Zhuntou). Needle insertion depth: 3 cun. Moxibustion is prohibited. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Shuigou (DU26, also known as Renzhong): Located below the nasal column, in the middle of the philtrum, directly opposite the lips. Needle insertion depth: 3 fen. Retain the needle for five breaths (hu). Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. For facial edema caused by Wind-Water, needling this acupoint leads to immediate recovery. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Duanduan (DU27): Located at the upper end of the upper lip. Some say it is at the central tip of the upper lip. Needle insertion depth: 3 fen. Retain the needle for six breaths. Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Yinjiao (DU28): Located inside the lips, in the tendon of the gum seam above the teeth. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*. *Yi Jia Ru Men*: Located in the center of the gum seam above the teeth inside the lips. Needle insertion depth: 3 fen. Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones.
Shenting (DU24): Located in the anterior forehead, directly above the nose root, entering the hairline by 5 fen. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones. Needling is prohibited. *Yi Jia Ru Men*.
Shangxing (DU23): Located 1 cun posterior to Shenting, entering the hairline. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*: Located on the frontal skull, in the midline of the nose, 1 cun into the hairline, in a depression that can hold a bean. Needle insertion depth: 2 fen. Retain the needle for ten breaths. Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. Do not apply excessive moxibustion.
Xinhui (DU22): Located 1 cun posterior to Shangxing, in the depression. Moxibustion: 14 to 49 moxa cones. Initially, there is no pain during moxibustion; if pain occurs after the disease is eliminated, stop moxibustion. Needling is prohibited. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Qian Ding (DU21): Located 1.5 cun posterior to Xinhui, in the bony depression. Needle insertion depth: 1 fen. Moxibustion: 2 to 49 moxa cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Baihui (DU20, also known as Sanyang Wuhui, Tianman): Located 1.5 cun posterior to Qian Ding, at the center of the vertex where the hair whorl is, in a depression that can hold a bean. Needle insertion depth: 2 fen. Upon obtaining Deqi (arrival of Qi), immediately apply reducing method. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*: When applying moxibustion to the top of the head, the number of cones must not exceed 49, because the skin on the vertex is thin, and excessive moxibustion is unsuitable.
Houding (DU19, also known as Jiaochong): Located 1.5 cun posterior to Baihui, on the occipital bone. Needle insertion depth: 3 fen. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Jiangjian (DU18, also known as Dayu): Located 1.5 cun posterior to Houding. Needle insertion depth: 3 fen. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Naohu (DU17, also known as Zafen, Helu): Located on the occipital bone, 1.5 cun posterior to Jiangjian. Needling is prohibited, as it may cause aphasia. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones. Do not apply reckless moxibustion. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Fengfu (DU16, also known as Sheben): Located in the neck, 1 cun into the hairline, 1.5 cun posterior to Naohu, in the depression within the inner side of the large tendons of the neck. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*: Located 1 cun above the nape hairline. When speaking loudly, the muscle rises immediately; when resting, the muscle flattens. Needle insertion depth: 2 fen. Moxibustion is prohibited.
Yamen (DU15, also known as Shezhong, Sheyan): Located 5 fen posterior to Fengfu, 5 fen into the hairline, in the depression, deep connecting to the tendons of the tongue. Take the point with the head extended. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*. *Zhen Jiu Zi Sheng Jing*: Located in the center of the nape, 5 fen into the hairline, in the depression, 1 cun away from Fengfu. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*: Needle insertion depth: 2 fen. Moxibustion is prohibited, as it may cause aphasia.
Dazhui (DU14): Located in the depression above the first thoracic vertebra at the back of the neck. Needle insertion depth: 5 fen. Retain the needle for three breaths; reduce by five inhalations. If applying moxibustion, use the patient's age as the number of cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*. *Zhen Jiu Zi Sheng Jing*: When moxibusting vertebral bones, one should moxa the protruding part of the joint for efficacy; moxaing below the joint on the bone itself is ineffective. Comparing flesh/fish to bone, this statement is credible. Follow this rule and moxa the joint area. *Yi Jia Ru Men*: "Vertebral" refers to the joint, "below" refers to the exterior.
Taodao (DU13): Located in the interspace below the Dazhui joint at the back of the neck. Take the point in a prone position. Needle insertion depth: 5 fen. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Shenzhu (DU12): Located in the interspace below the third thoracic vertebra. Take the point in a prone position. Needle insertion depth: 5 fen. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Shendao (DU11): Located in the interspace below the fifth thoracic vertebra. Take the point in a prone position. Moxibustion: 49 to 100 moxa cones. Needling is prohibited. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
Lingtai (DU10): Located in the interspace below the sixth thoracic vertebra. Take the point in a prone position. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Needling is prohibited. *Cu Ren Shu Xue Zhen Jiu Tu Jing*.
