Another prescription

Treatment for sudden wind-stroke with facial deviation, hemiplegia and immobility, Zhuli Tang (Bamboo Juice Decoction).
Zhuli (Bamboo Juice) (three sheng) Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) Fangji (Stephania Root) Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome) Guixin (Cinnamon Twig) Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) Lingyangjiao (Antelope Horn) (cut into pieces, two liang each) Mahuang (Ephedra Stem) (four liang, remove joints)
The above eight herbs are cut, combined with four sheng of water and bamboo juice, boiled to obtain two and a half sheng of liquid. Divide into three doses; take one dose over three days as a routine regimen. Avoid raw green onions.
Xizhou Xuming Tang (West Prefecture Life-Prolonging Decoction), treating wind-stroke fei syndrome where the body cannot control itself, inability to speak, confusion and failure to recognize people, unawareness of pain locations, only experiencing spasms and stiffness...
Mahuang (Ephedra Stem) (six liang, remove joints) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (four liang, crushed, wrapped in cotton cloth) Guixin (Cinnamon Twig) Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Radix) Gancao (Licorice Root) (stir-baked, two liang each)
Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) (one liang each) Xingren (Apricot Seed) (forty seeds, remove skin and sharp ends, use those with two kernels)
The above nine herbs are cut. Add nine dou nine sheng of water. First boil Mahuang until boiling again, skim off the foam, then add the remaining herbs. Boil to obtain four sheng. Take one sheng initially. If the patient regains some consciousness, do not sleep deeply; cover thickly to induce slight sweating, then gradually reduce clothing. Do not cover too heavily afterwards. Do not take more medicine; the disease is considered cured if symptoms resolve.
If previous administration did not induce sweating, administer another one sheng; recovery occurs upon sweating. After sweating, dilute the dosage by combining five parts into one. Diet remains normal. Avoid raw green onions, seaweed, and Songcai (Chinese cabbage).
This formula is identical to the previously mentioned Da Xuming Tang, also suitable for postpartum women who have lost significant blood, as well as for the elderly and children.
Gancao (Licorice Root) (stir-baked) Guixin (Cinnamon Twig) Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Radix) Renshen (Ginseng Radix) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (crushed, wrapped in cotton) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (two liang each) Mahuang (Ephedra Stem) (three liang, remove joints)
Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) (one liang) Xingren (Apricot Seed) (forty seeds, remove skin and sharp ends, use those with two kernels)
The above nine herbs are cut. Add one dou of water, boil to obtain four sheng. Take one sheng. The goal is slight sweating. Cover the back lightly, sit leaning against a table. Recovery occurs when sweat appears.
Do not take further doses. No dietary restrictions, but avoid exposure to wind. Also treats conditions where one can only lie prone and cannot lie supine, coughing with rebellious qi, and edema of the face and eyes. Avoid seaweed, Songcai (Chinese cabbage), and raw green onions.
Fan Wang's prescription covers the same indications, water volume, and yield. Fan Wang stated: This is a formula from Zhang Zhongjing, originally lacking two ingredients. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 14)
Xiao Huang San Jiu (Minor Yellow Powder Wine), primarily treating wind-deficiency phlegm syndromes, hemiplegia of limbs, weakness in both legs, inability to raise hands above the head, or contraction and pain in the lower abdomen, cramping under the ribs, accumulation of fluid in the epigastrium, fluid retention under the ribs, frequent dreams at night, sadness and depression, mental fogginess and forgetfulness. These are caused by wind-deficiency and pathogenic invasion of the five zang organs. It also treats chronic lower back pain from prolonged sitting, sudden deafness, dizziness and heavy head, generalized edema and painful bi syndrome, aversion to cold food, chills, fullness of phlegm in the chest, cold hernia in the epigastrium. This medicine addresses all these conditions. It is also a prescription for postpartum residual diseases in women, where wind-deficiency and accumulated cold persist.

The above eighteen herbs are cut. Young and strong individuals need no processing; the frail elderly should process them slightly. Place in a silk bag and soak in two dou of clear wine. Soak for five days in spring/summer, seven days in autumn/winter. Take one ge before meals. If ineffective, increase to four or five ge, three times daily. This medicine is excellent for treating bi syndrome and does not cause vomiting or stifling sensation. If there is slight heat, it should be taken cold. For severe deficiency, add Congrong (Cistanche Deserticola) two liang; for dysentery, add Yuwang (Polygonatum Odoratum Rhizoma) three liang; for excessive dreaming, add Shihu (Dendrobium Stem), Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome), and Zhisshi (Pyritum) two liang each; for excess fluid in the epigastrium, add Fuling (Poria) and Renshen (Ginseng Radix) two liang each, and Shuyu three liang. When the wine is consumed, soak the dregs again in two dou of wine. Alternatively, dry the dregs, crush them, and take one cunbi with wine, increasing the dose if necessary.
