The nine types of parasites are: the first is called Fuchong (Hidden Worm), four cun in length; the second is called Huichong (Roundworm), one chi in length; the third is called Baichong (White Worm), one cun in length; the fourth is called Rouc (Flesh Worm), resembling a rotten apricot; the fifth is called Feichong (Lung Worm), resembling a silkworm; the sixth is called Weichong (Stomach Worm), resembling a toad; the seventh is called Ruochong (Weak Worm), resembling a melon seed; the eighth is called Chichong (Red Worm), resembling raw meat; the ninth is called Nuochong (Pinworm), extremely minute, resembling a vegetable worm. Fuchong is the leader of the group of worms. If Huichong penetrates the heart, it causes death. Baichong reproduces, and its descendants grow larger, reaching four or five chi in length, which can also cause death. Rouc causes vexation and fullness. Feichong causes coughing. Weichong causes vomiting and a tendency for stomach qi to rebel with belching. Ruochong, also known as Gechong (Diaphragm Worm), causes excessive salivation. Chichong causes borborygmus (bowel sounds). Nuochong resides in the tongchang (rectum); if numerous, it leads to hemorrhoids; if severe, it leads to leprosy-like conditions; entering human sores, it generates various yongju (carbuncles and ulcers), xuan (tinea), and jie (scabies). Quchong (Tooth Worm) does everything possible; humans do not necessarily have them all, nor must they be numerous; some may have them predominantly, others not at all. These various worms reside between the fu organs and chang organs. If the qi of the fu and zang organs is solid, they do not cause harm. If deficient, they can erode the body, transforming into various ailments according to the movement of the specific worm. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 26)
