[Placenta Hominis (Zi He Che)]
The nature, flavor, and meridian tropism are not recorded in various texts. It primarily treats emaciation in men, near-fatal internal injuries, and resolves the toxicity of medicated arrows. The first menstruation (Shou Jing) still belongs to pure Yang nature and can restore life.
Commentary: The tonifying effect of menstrual blood indeed possesses the power to revive the dead, yet nowadays few people know how to use it. What a pity!
[Hair]
Bitter in flavor, slightly warm in nature, non-toxic, enters the Heart Meridian. It primarily treats cough, five types of strangury (Wu Lin), and obstruction of both urination and defecation. When burned to ash and blown into the nasal cavity, it immediately stops epistaxis (Nu Xue). It also primarily treats pediatric convulsions and epilepsy. Fetal hair, as well as hair shaved from children (male or female), is particularly effective. Hair from women who have given birth many times, when burned to ash and taken with wine, is extremely effective for facilitating childbirth.
Commentary: Hair is the surplus of blood. Since the Heart governs blood, hair exclusively enters the Heart Meridian. Zhu Danxi claimed that its ability to tonify Yin is very rapid, which is indeed well-founded.
Lei Gong stated: For usage, one must select hair cut from the crown of the head of a man aged twenty or above, who is free from disease and has a ruddy complexion. When used in pills, powders, or ointments, it must be processed first... [Text cuts off here]
[Placenta Hominis (Zi He Che)]
Sweet in flavor, strongly warm in nature, non-toxic, enters the Heart, Spleen, and Kidney meridians. It primarily treats various deficiencies and hundred damages, five labors and seven injuries, bone-steaming tidal fever, physical weakness and shortness of breath, hematemesis and epistaxis, seminal depletion in men, and infertility in women. It is truly an elixir of immortality. Select plump specimens, wash them clean, remove the purple veins, and chop them into pieces. Place them in two bowls of infant urine (Tong Bian), put them in a lead bottle, and simmer over boiling water until soft. Only open after a full day and night, then pound into a paste for use. In secular practice, those buried underground for a long time that transform into clear spring water are named "He Che Shui" (River Cart Water), primarily treating heat-induced mania from epidemic fevers and heat toxins in pediatric erysipelas (Dan Zhen).
Commentary: Zi He Che is sweet in flavor, thus suitable for entering the Spleen; it is the essence of the father, thus suitable for entering the Kidney; it is the blood of the mother, thus suitable for entering the Heart. As it is formed by the union of essence and blood, before the formation of male or female characteristics, the embryo is established first, resembling the Great Void. It is essentially the bellows of Heaven and Earth, and the foundation of Lead and Mercury (alchemical terms for Yin and Yang). When the cycle of ninety-nine is complete, the fetus rides upon it, hence the name "He Che" (River Cart). It is also called "Zi" (Purple) because red and black colors mix. It harmonizes the colors of Kan and Li, obtaining the essence of subtle union. Although it forms a postnatal shape, it actually inherits prenatal Qi. Its tonifying merit is unmatched. However, since its nature is warm, patients with Fire syndromes must undergo processing to avoid adverse effects.
