**Tribulus Terrestris Seed (Bai Jili Zi):** Bitter and acrid in flavor, warm in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Lung, Liver, and Kidney meridians. It primarily treats evil blood masses (blood stasis forming lumps), zhi-jie (abdominal masses), throat bi (swollen and obstructed throat), difficult labor, milk obstruction, pediatric head sores, skin wind-itch, headache, ke-ni (rebellious Qi cough) and fei-wai (chronic wasting of the lung), eliminates vexation, directs Qi downward, brightens the eyes, removes dryness and heat, treats carbuncles and toxins, and stops seminal emission and leakage. Its leaves can be used as a bath decoction to treat wind pathogens. When processing, crush to remove spines, steam with wine, then stir-fry. Aconite (Wutou) serves as a guiding herb. **Shanyuan Jili** (Seeds of *Chamaecrista mimosoides*, also known as Tong Jili): Primarily tonifies the Kidney, enriches essence, strengthens Yin, and promotes fertility.
Commentary: Tribulus benefits blood, thus it is suitable for entering the Liver meridian; directing Qi downward suits entry into the Lung meridian. Conditions such as evil blood belong to diseases of these two meridians, hence Tribulus treats them both. The reason it enters the Kidney meridian is that the Lung is the mother of the Kidney, and the Liver is the child of the Kidney. There is no case where the mother and child meridians are both benefited, yet the Kidney does not receive their advantage; therefore, it can stop seminal emission. Tribulus produced in Shanyuan is indeed a divine elixir for continuing the lineage, but it is not recorded in the Materia Medica, which is regrettable.
Lei Gong states: Whenever using Tribulus, after harvesting, select and clean it, steam from Wu hour (11 AM–1 PM) to You hour (5 PM–7 PM), take out, sun-dry, and pound until all spines on the skin are removed. Mix with wine, steam again, and use during Yin or Chou hours.
**Celosia Seed (Qing Xiang Zi):** Bitter in flavor, slightly cold in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Heart and Liver meridians. It treats pathogenic factors, skin wind-heat and damp-itch, kills three types of parasites (roundworms, pinworms, hookworms) and scabies mites, treats malignant sores, hemorrhoidal erosion, lower body sores, calms the Liver, strengthens bones and tendons, benefits brain marrow, brightens eyes and ears, and is also known as Cao Ting Li.
Commentary: Qing Xiang Zi is bitter, corresponding to the flavor of Bing-Ding (Fire); it is green, corresponding to the color of Jia-Yi (Wood). Therefore, it enters the Heart and Liver meridians. The *Shennong Bencao Jing* does not mention its treatment of eye diseases, but...
Lei Gong says: Whenever using Qing Xiang Zi, do not mistake it for Si Ji Zi (Cuscutae Semen/Tu Si Zi) and Shu Niu Zi (Arctii Fructus/Niu Bang Zi). These two are quite similar, differing only in flavor. Si Ji Zi has a coarse taste, and when decocted...
**Equisetum Hiemale (Mu Zei):** Sweet and slightly bitter in flavor, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Lung meridian. It treats eye diseases, reduces pterygium/membrane opacity, dissipates accumulated masses, and benefits the Liver. Combined with Musk (She Xiang) and Buffalo Horn Scale (Niu Jiao Sai), it treats xiuxi dysentery (chronic persistent dysentery). Combined with Yu Yuliang (Hematitum), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Xiong Duan (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), it treats bengzhong chi bai (metrorrhagia with bloody leukorrhea). Combined with Huai E (likely referring to a specific preparation involving locust trees or similar) and Sang Er (Auricularia Auricula-Judae), it treats intestinal deficiency with bleeding; combined with Huai Zi, Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), and Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix), it treats intestinal [disease] and hemorrhoids. Remove the nodes, moisten with water, and bake before use.
Commentary: The name Mu Zei implies its ability to "chop wood." Since the Liver corresponds to Wood, it is suitable for entering this organ. The eyes rely on blood for vision; by using Mu Zei to eliminate Liver pathogens, blood is generated, and eye diseases are cured.
