(1) Horn: Primarily treats fright evil (sudden onset of symptoms due to shock or fear), brightens the eyes, wards off malevolent spirits, calms the mind, and benefits qi. When burned to ash, it treats ailments caused by malevolent qi and bloody leukorrhea or metrorrhagia. [Meng Xun · Chen Cangqi]
(2) Mutton: Warm in nature. Primarily treats wind-dizziness and emaciation, pediatric convulsions and epilepsy, and in men, five exhaustions and seven injuries, as well as deficiency-cold of the zang-fu organs. Sheep from Hexi are the best; those from Hedong are also good. Even if driven to the south, their sinews and strength will naturally deteriorate; how can they provide tonification? [Meng Xun]
(3) Mutton: Pregnant women should not consume it in large amounts. [Chen Cangqi]
Those suffering from epidemic febrile diseases or malaria who consume it may develop fever, heaviness, and lethargy leading to death. [Meng Xun]
(4) Sheep Head Meat: Neutral in nature. Primarily soothes the middle jiao, treats consumptive fatigue accompanied by sweating, calms the mind, and stops惊悸 (palpitations/fright). Patients with chronic cold conditions should not consume it in large amounts. It primarily treats wind-heat dizziness, epidemic diseases, pediatric epilepsy, and additionally tonifies stomach deficiency and bone-steaming heat associated with five exhaustions in men. It is suitable for consumption after recovery from a febrile disease. [Chen Cangqi]
(5) Abomasum (Stomach): Primarily tonifies stomach deficiency, reduces frequent urination, and stops spontaneous sweating. Consuming soup made from fatty abomasum three to five times leads to recovery. [Meng Xun · Chen Cangqi]
(6) Liver: Cold in nature. Treats liver wind deficiency-heat, redness and dimness/pain of the eyes, and blindness following febrile diseases. For such cases, thinly slice green sheep liver or lamb liver, soak in water, and apply externally to the eyes; this is extremely effective. Swallowing lamb liver directly is particularly wonderful. [Chen Cangqi]
To treat blindness, take one jin (approx. 500g) of sheep liver, remove the fat membrane, and slice thinly. Place in a clean, new clay pot that has never touched water. Position over charcoal fire until all lipid juice evaporates. Once extremely dry, mix with half sheng (approx. 600ml) of Cassiae Semen (Jue Ming Zi) and one he (approx. 100ml) of Polygoni Multiflori Caulis (Liao Zi), both stir-fried until fragrant and ground into powder. Combine with the liver powder. Administer one fangcun bi (approx. 5-10g) dose with white honey water. Take after meals, three times daily, increasing up to three doses per administration, stopping when maximum effect is reached. No more than two courses of treatment are needed for significant improvement in vision. Annual use is beneficial, allowing clear night vision of text and objects. [Chen Cangqi]
(7) The term "Qi Yang" refers to the Gu Li Yang breed. For those frequently suffering from eye pain, astringency, inability to see, or aversion to sunlight and lamp light, take two white crystalline lenses (lenses of the eye) from a cooked sheep's head. (16) Note: Southern sheep are not fed salt and mostly graze on wild grasses in mountains, sometimes consuming toxic plants. Northern sheep kept for one to two years in the south should also not be eaten, as illness will inevitably arise due to their ingestion of southern toxic plants. However, southerners eating these sheep need not worry. Even northern sheep raised in the south for three years remain unsuitable for consumption, let alone native southern sheep. This is due to differences in local geography and environment. [Chen Cangqi]
