[Vine Pear (Actinidia chinensis / Kiwi)]
Primarily treats lower jiao Dan Shi (mineral drug) toxicity, and promotes the smooth functioning of the five zang organs. When the fruit is ripe, collect the pulp, mix it with honey, and decoct it into a paste. Taking it removes irritability and heat, and stops Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome). Long-term consumption induces internal cold qi and damages the spleen and stomach. [Juan · Zheng]
Benefits Heart Qi, primarily supplements various deficiencies of middle jiao qi, and harmonizes the spleen. In cases of sudden onset where qi flow is obstructed after eating, crush the fresh fruit to extract juice and take it orally. [Xin · Xin · Jia]
Treats pufferfish poisoning; take the (boiled) juice. If one is poisoned by pufferfish liver or roe, death occurs immediately; only this vine can detoxify it. It grows in the valleys of Lingnan. The tree is large and tall, with a trunk several chi in circumference; the fruits are about one cun long. Fruits formed first hang downwards, while those formed later grow higher. They ripen in the eighth lunar month; when preserved with honey, they are extremely sweet. [Jia]
(1) Grind into powder and take orally to ward off various toxic heats, neutralize snake venom, and eliminate fright-induced trance states. Barbarians often eat it; the meat resembles that of a muntjac but has a fishy odor. The barbarians say: "Because we eat this, we are not afraid of snake venom." [Zheng]
(2) The navel area of the fruit has an aroma; it eliminates hundred diseases and treats all types of evil qi Zhu Bing (infectious/pestilential diseases). Grind it, mix with water, and take orally. [Zheng]
[Bear]
(1) Bear Fat: Slightly cold in nature, sweet and slippery. Harvest it when it solidifies and turns white in winter; used as a raw material, no other substance can substitute for it. Bear fat is added to hair-whitening removal plasters and is highly effective. Burning bear fat mixed with pig fat produces smoke; if this smoke enters the eyes, it causes blindness because bear fat smoke damages human vision. [Zheng]
(2) Bear Meat: Neutral in nature, sweet in taste, non-toxic. Treats Feng Bi (wind-dampness obstruction) causing numbness of tendons and bones. If there are accumulations in the abdomen accompanied by cold and heat symptoms, consuming bear meat will never cure the condition. [Zheng]
(3) Boil bear bones to make a soup for bathing; it treats Li Jie Feng (migratory joint pain/rheumatism) and also treats Xiao Er Ke Wu (infantile fright/convulsion due to external pathogenic factors). [Zheng]
(4) Bear Gallbladder: Cold in nature. Treats Shi Qi Sheng Re (epidemic high fever), Gan Ji (pediatric malnutrition syndrome), and Xiao Er Jing Xian (infantile convulsions and epilepsy). Do not consume in the tenth lunar month as it harms the spirit. [Zheng]
(5) For infantile convulsions and epilepsy, take an amount of Bear Gallbladder equivalent to two soybeans, and administer mixed with breast milk and Bamboo Sap (Zhu Li); both methods effectively remove phlegm-fluid from the heart region. [Zheng]
[Cow/Ox]
(1) Cows are essential for agriculture and should not be slaughtered excessively. Cows that die naturally have severed blood vessels and exhausted marrow, making them unfit for consumption. Yellow cattle may trigger drug reactions and exacerbate diseases; black cattle are particularly unsuitable for eating. Urine and feces of black cattle are used only for medicinal purposes. [Jia]
(2) Additionally, cow heads and hooves: direct wind-heat downward; those suffering from cold syndromes must not consume them. [Jia]
(3) Cow Liver: Treats dysentery. Additionally, boiling the liver with vinegar and eating it treats emaciation. [Jia]
(4) Cow Abomasum/Rumen: Treats Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst), Feng Xuan (wind-induced dizziness), and tonifies the five zang organs; boil with vinegar and eat. [Zheng]
(5) Kidney: Tonifies the kidney. [Zheng]
(6) Marrow: Calms the five zang organs, balances the San Jiao (Triple Burner), and warms the middle jiao. Long-term consumption increases longevity. Take with wine. Black ox marrow, mixed equally with Rehmannia Juice (Dihuang Zhi) and white honey, decocted into a paste and taken, treats emaciation. This might actually be ox fat. [Jia · Zheng]
(7) Cow Manure: Treats Huo Luan (cholera-like acute gastroenteritis); boil and drink. [Zheng]
Black ox manure is superior. Additionally, for infantile night crying, take a piece of dry cow manure the size of a hand, place it under the sleeping mat without informing the mother; this brings auspiciousness to both mother and child. [Jia]
(8) Additionally, for women lacking breast milk, make a soup from the cow's nose and eat it on an empty stomach. Within two to three days, abundant milk secretion will occur. This is especially beneficial for middle-aged individuals in robust health. [Zheng]
(9) Additionally, slaughtered cattle are already unfit for consumption, let alone those that died naturally. Take three jin of beef, cut finely and cook thoroughly. Feed this to vicious horses that bite people near the trough; after just two feedings, the horse becomes quite docile. After three to five feedings, the horse becomes fierce and unrideable. Do not consume in the twelfth lunar month as it harms the spirit. [Zheng]
