(1) Meat: Warm in nature. Slightly toxic. Primarily treats sores and scabies, tonifies deficiency and damage, as well as pruritus vulvae (vaginal itching) and sterility in women, and ulceration with swelling of the scrotum in children. It can be boiled or roasted and eaten at will. Beneficial. It also treats pathogenic qi of the five zang organs; recovery is rapid upon ingestion. Best taken on an empty stomach. [Meng Shen · Verification]
(2) Intestines and viscera: Slightly cold in nature. For those suffering from chronic sores and scabies that do not heal, it should be made into a soup and consumed. For pediatric convulsive epilepsy and adults experiencing hallucinations (seeing ghosts), making it into a soup and consuming it is also beneficial. The symptoms of "fox possession" disease include: some individuals may greet others with hands crossed in a bowing gesture, some speak alone in quiet places, some bow excessively to empty space, some talk excessively, some keep their mouths tightly closed while sitting with hands crossed and exhibiting excessive etiquette, and some defecate and urinate indiscriminately. This is referred to as fox possession. If it is equine plague, the treatment is the same; pouring the liquid into the nostrils leads to recovery. [Verification] For those suffering from gu poison causing alternating chills and fever, frequent consumption is recommended. [Meng Shen]
(3) Head: Burned to ash, it repels evil spirits. [Verification]
(1) Otter liver: Primarily treats zhū disease (a contagious chronic wasting disease) spreading within a family. If the entire household is affected, take one otter liver, roast it over fire until dry, grind it into powder, mix with water, and administer one fang cun bi (a square-inch measure) per dose, twice daily. [Meng Shen]
(2) For those suffering from cough, burn the otter liver to ash and administer with wine. [Verification]
(3) Meat: Cold in nature, non-toxic. The decoction primarily treats epidemic diseases and bovine/equine plagues; the decoction should be cooled before administration. [Verification]
(4) Additionally, for those suffering from cold-heat toxicity, wind-water edema, or deficient bloating, take one water otter, remove the skin, and combine the viscera, bones, head, tail, etc., roasting them until dry. Grind into powder, administer one fang cun bi mixed with water, twice daily. Recovery occurs within ten days. [Verification]
(5) Carefully noted: Ingesting this to treat water retention/bloating is only effective for deficient bloating caused by heat toxicity and wind pathogens; recovery is immediate upon ingestion. However, if the bloating is due to cold qi and food stagnation, ingestion will exacerbate weakness and swelling. It treats heat but not cold; therefore, it cannot be applied universally. [Meng Shen]
(1) Meat: Neutral in nature, sour in taste. [Verification]
Primarily treats labor-heat caused by ingesting mineral pills (dan shi). For those suffering from bloody and white dysentery that persists for a long time without healing, boil the meat, expose it to dew overnight, and eat it in one meal the next morning on an empty stomach with sauce; recovery follows. [Meng Shen]
(2) Furthermore, thin individuals can cook and eat it with five flavors to gain flesh and become fat and fair-skinned. Those who have previously ingested mineral pills can consume it regularly. Mineral pills tend to cause heat; consuming otter meat yields excellent results. [Meng Shen]
(3) Bone: Primarily treats rising qi and cough. Roast until dry and grind into powder. Mix with wine and administer three he (a traditional volume unit); twice daily. The cough will surely resolve. [Verification]
