Yellow Drum Ding (a type of carbuncle), along with Zouhuang Ding toxin (a critical condition where carbuncle toxin sinks inward and attacks the heart), accompanied by diffuse warm swelling and internal heat in the chest and neck, constipation. To prevent the toxin from sinking inward, a method of resolving Ding toxins and detoxifying is prescribed.
*Violariae Herba* (Didingcao), *Jasminis Officinalis Flos* (Yinhua), *Paeoniae Rubra Radix* (Chishao), *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus* (Dabei), *Forsythiae Fructus* (Lianqiao), *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), *Trichosanthis Radix* (Huafen), *Ningrois Albus* (Renzhongbai), *Scrophulariae Radix* (Yuanshen), *Menthae Haplocalycis Herba* (Bohe), *Platycodonis Radix* (Jiegeng), *Lophatheri Herba* (Dan Zhuyezi), *Chrysanthemi Indici Flos* (Yejuhua Tou).
For Ding (carbuncles) that are red and swollen with constipation and a solid pulse, fresh *Rehmanniae Radix* (Xianshengdi), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian), *Akebiae Caulis* (Mutong), and raw *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Shengjun) must be used.
Snake Head Ding (carbuncle on the fingertip), which has ruptured, will result in the shedding of finger joints; urgent clearing and resolving of fire toxin is required.
*Forsythiae Fructus* (Lianqiao), *Jasminis Officinalis Flos* (Yinhua), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao), *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), *Moutan Cortex* (Danpi), *Trichosanthis Radix* (Huafen), *Paeoniae Rubra Radix* (Chishao), *Violariae Herba* (Diding), *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus* (Dabei), *Chrysanthemi Flos* (Juhua).
Suokou Ding (carbuncle at the mouth corner), where the sore head is not hard, causing the toxin gas to scatter; urgent clearing and dispersing is required.
*Arisaematis Cum Bile Fructus* (Niubangzi), *Chrysanthemi Indici Flos* (Ganju), *Jasminis Officinalis Flos* (Yinhua), *Paeoniae Rubra Radix* (Chishao), *Forsythiae Fructus* (Lianqiao), *Violariae Herba* (Didingcao), *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus* (Dabei), *Anemarrhenae Rhizoma* (Caoheche), *Lophatheri Herba* (Dan Zhuyeye), *Chrysanthemi Indici Flos* (Yejuhua Tou).
Blood moles on the forehead and skull undergoing "fan hua" (proliferation resembling flowers), extending up to the cheeks and down to the eyelids. The flesh protrudes prominently, and slight vibration causes bleeding. The pulse is rapid and fine, with a wiry quality on the left side. This indicates Yin injury and hyperactive Heart and Liver Fire. It should be treated with Xijiao Dihuang Tang.
*Rhinocerotis Cornu* (Xijiao), fresh *Rehmanniae Radix* (Xianshengdi), *Forsythiae Fructus* (Lianqiao), *Paeoniae Rubra Radix* (Chishao), *Scrophulariae Radix* (Yuanshen), refined *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Fen Gancao), *Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus* (Xiang Beimu), *Moutan Cortex* (Fen Danpi), *Anemarrhenae Rhizoma* (Zhimu), *Platycladi Cacumen* (Ce Baiye), *Nelumbinis Plumula* (Ou Jie).
The cheek and jaw area is traversed by the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. Gucaofeng (osteoperiostitis of the jaw) arises from the binding of Yangming damp-heat with external wind. Its onset is necessarily sudden because the nature of fire is swift. Currently, the external ulceration has persisted for a long time, and the jaw cannot open because the hardness around the Jiache acupoint has not subsided, impairing opening and closing. The ancients used Zhonghe Tang because the disease was chronic and the pulse was deficient; thus, they used *Astragali Radix* (Huangqi) for tonification and support, Siwu Tang for nourishing blood, *Cinnamomi Ramulus* (Guixin) and *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Baizhi) to dissipate nodules and pathogenic factors, and *Jasminis Officinalis Flos* (Yinhua), *Trichosanthis Radix* (Huafen), *Scrophulariae Radix* (Yuanshen), and *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus* (Beimu) to clear and transform accumulated toxins. The previous discussion is very correct. However, the Yangming meridian is rich in Qi and Blood; excessive use of warming tonics may cause bias and harm. It is proposed to follow the ancient Zhonghe Tang without adding or subtracting ingredients.
*Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma* (Chuanxiong), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), *Paeoniae Radix Alba* (Baishao), *Rehmanniae Radix* (Shengdi), *Cinnamomi Cortex* (Rougui), *Astragali Radix* (Huangqi), *Trichosanthis Radix* (Huafen), refined *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Fen Gancao), *Platycodonis Radix* (Jiegeng), *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus* (Dabei), *Jasminis Officinalis Flos* (Yinhua), *Jujubae Fructus* (Hongzao).
Gucaofeng (osteoperiostitis of the jaw), with swelling both inside and outside the Jiache acupoint, and internal ulceration discharging pus. Treatment should primarily focus on clearing the Stomach and detoxifying, with the healing of external ulcerations being key.
*Coptidis Rhizoma* (Chuanlian), *Gypsum Fibrosum* (Shigao), *Scrophulariae Radix* (Yuanshen), *Trichosanthis Radix* (Huafen), *Saiga Tataricae Cornu* (Lingyangjiao), *Moutan Cortex* (Danpi), *Paeoniae Rubra Radix* (Chishao), *Jasminis Officinalis Flos* (Yinhua), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao), *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), *Lophatheri Herba* (Dan Zhuyeye), *Phragmitis Rhizoma* (Lugen).
Gucaofeng (osteoperiostitis of the jaw), after ulceration, leads to tight contraction of tendons and vessels, resulting in trismus (lockjaw). Accompanied by residual pathogens not cleared, subcutaneous nodules, tinnitus in both ears, and poor hearing. There is disharmony between Jueyin and Shaoyang, with Yang floating upward. The prescription aims to nourish Yin, clear Liver fire, and harmonize the collaterals.
*Glehniae Radix* (Beishashen), *Chrysanthemi Flos* (Juhua), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), *Paeoniae Radix Alba* (Baishao), *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Guangpi), *Haliotidis Concha* (Shijueming), *Tribuli Fructus* (Bajili), *Prunellae Spica* (Xiakucao), *Alismatis Rhizoma* (Zexie), *Moutan Cortex* (Danpi), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao), *Nelumbinis Folium* (Heye).
Pill Formula:
*Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma* (Chuanxiong), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), *Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum* (Banxia), *Bombyx Batryticatus* (Jiangcan), *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus* (Dabei), *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Chenpi), *Poria* (Fuling), *Tribuli Fructus* (Bajili), *Glehniae Radix* (Beishashen), *Prunellae Spica* (Xiakucao), *Scrophulariae Radix* (Yuanshen), *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Baizhi), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao), *Sepiae Endoconcha* (Haipiaoxiao).
Made into pills with honey water, taken three qian after breakfast.
Gucaofeng (osteoperiostitis of the jaw), named "Chuanzhu Chuansai" (threading pearls through the cheek) by Dou Hanqing. The core method states: lesions arising above the teeth or from the dental alveolus are related to wind-fire in the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. The Hand-Shaoyang meridian runs from hand to head, while the Foot-Yangming meridian runs from head to foot. The pathogen enters via the Hand meridian; initially causing tooth pain and swelling of the cheek, facial swelling extending over the Taiyang region, then entering the Yangming meridian, spreading from the neck to the chest. Initially, it moves downward anteriorly, then slowly supplements posteriorly, causing toxic fire to accumulate, injuring Yin and consuming Qi. Unable to eliminate toxins and resolve suppuration, the pathogen scatters unpredictably. The pulse shows dispersion and enlargement on the left, and softness and smallness on the right. The tongue is curled, eyes fixed, Yang energy shrinks, the face lacks luster, sweating is profuse. Qi and Blood are both exhausted, constituting a sinking syndrome. The medicine does not match the disease and cannot cure it; fate is determined by Heaven, beyond human effort. The prescription is merely an attempt to do one's utmost.
*Panacis Ginseng Radix Rubra* (or *Codonopsis Radix* - Western Ginseng here likely refers to American Ginseng/Panax Quinquefolius, but standard WHO term for Xi Yang Shen is *American Ginseng Radix*), *Poria* (Fuling), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao), *Jasminis Officinalis Flos* (Yinhua), *Trichosanthis Radix* (Huafen), *Dendrobii Caulis* (Chuanshihu), *Ophiopogonis Radix* (Maidong), *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus* (Dabei Mu), *Phaseoli Semen Mungo* (Lvdou).
Although there was some improvement last night after taking the decoction, the pulse has not yet risen, so this cannot be relied upon. Add five qian of *Rehmanniae Radix* (Shengdi) to the original formula.
Gucaofeng (osteoperiostitis of the jaw) has been ulcerated for a long time, and the jawbone is damaged. Complete recovery is difficult; treatment should focus on tonification and support.
