342. Fistula of the Cheek: When a small hole perforates the side of the cheek, appearing and disappearing intermittently, it is called "Fistula of the Cheek" (Lou Sai). Internally administer Jingfang Baidu San (Jingfang Decoction to Overcome Toxicity). Externally wash with decoction of bark from Albizia julibrissin (Yihehua) tree. Simultaneously apply mashed bark from Albizia julibrissin tree. Additionally, hold concentrated decoction of roots from Albizia julibrissin in the mouth. For this patient whose cheek ulcerated for ten years without healing, following this treatment will close the wound and eradicate the root cause.

343. Migraine and General Headache: For someone suffering from migraine or general headache for twenty years, use the following prescription: Raw Aconitum carmichaelii (Da Wutou), peeled, 4 liang; Prepared Pinellia ternata (Pao Nanting), 1 liang. Grind together into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with water decocted from 7 leaves of Mentha haplocalyx (Bohe) and one preserved plum (Yanmei), taken before sleep. Externally, mix this powder with juice from Allium fistulosum (Cong) and apply to the Taiyang acupoint for better effect.

Another prescription: Angelica dahurica (Baizhi), 3 qian; Gastrodia elata (Tianma) and Saposhnikovia divaricata (Fangfeng), 1 qian each; Schizonepeta tenuifolia (Jingjie), 1.5 qian. Grind into powder and take as decoction. This is an effective prescription by Linwu Shanshan.

Mr. Yang Jie's Dubu Wan uses Angelica dahurica washed with wine and ground into powder, formed into pills with refined honey, size of a bullet. Take with Daqingcha (large green tea) or decoction of Schizonepeta tenuifolia. Avoid fish.

344. Thunderhead Wind Pain: Headache accompanied by nodules or a sensation of thunder rumbling in the head. Use Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong), Angelica dahurica (Baizhi), Notopterygium incisum (Qianghuo), Saposhnikovia divaricata (Fangfeng), Gastrodia elata (Tianma), Chrysanthemum morifolium (Ganju), Mentha haplocalyx (Bohe), and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gancao). If ineffective, add Kochia scoparia (Difuzi) and Zingiber officinale (Shengjiang), decocted with wine and water.

Linwu Shanshan's effective prescription uses dried goat manure roasted until charred, ground into powder. Take 2 qian per dose with wine. Effective when other medicines fail. For headache due to phlegm-heat, use one dried Trichosanthes kirilowii fruit (Gualou) roasted, and 4 liang of Arctium lappa seeds (Niubangzi), ground into powder, taken with wine. Effective.

345. Blood-Wind Dizziness: A woman suffers from severe dizziness due to blood-wind, collapsing unconscious. Use young hearts of Xanthium strumarium herb (Cangerzi cao), dried in shade, ground into powder. Take 1 qian per dose mixed with wine. Highly effective. This substance can open the top of the head, thus yielding quick results.

346. Vertigo: Although vertigo is a minor symptom, major diseases often originate from it, leading to sudden blindness and collapse which may be incurable; treat early. Use Taishen (Codonopsis pilosula), Banxia (Pinellia ternata), each 3 qian; Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala), Danggui (Angelica sinensis), Shudi (Rehmannia glutinosa prepared), Baishao (Paeonia lactiflora), each 1 liang; Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong), Cornus officinalis (Zhuyu), each 5 qian; Gastrodia elata (Tianma), 1 qian; Chenpi (Citrus reticulata peel), 0.5 qian. Decoct in water and take for several doses until effective. This soup is named Fangxuan Tang, specifically treating deficiency of Qi and Blood, not directly addressing dizziness of the head and eyes. Regular consumption is required for effectiveness.

347. Bleeding from Head Shaking: Bleeding associated with shaking the head indicates severe Liver Wind. Use Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia divaricata), 3 liang; Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes root), Qihuangqi (Honey-fried Astragalus membranaceus), Qianghuo (Notopterygium incisum), Baishao (Paeonia lactiflora), each 5 qian; Xijiao (Rhinoceros horn, substitute with alternatives in modern practice), Gancao (Glycyrrhiza uralensis), each 1.5 qian; Zhi Cheshetui (Roasted snake skin), Gouteng (Uncaria rhynchophylla), Mahuang (Ephedra sinica), each 1 qian. Grind into powder, form pills with jujube meat, size of wu zi. Take 5-7 pills with Mint decoction.

348. Curly Hair Sore: Sores appear on the head like grapes, very painful. Named Curly Hair Toxic Sore. Use Huangbai (Phellodendron bark), 1 liang; Ruxiang (Frankincense), 1.5 qian. Grind into powder, mix with concentrated decoction of Sophora japonica flowers (Huaihua) to make cakes, apply to the sore. Also apply Wu Zhuyu (Evodia rutaecarpa) powder mixed with hot vinegar to both soles of the feet. Cures immediately.

349. Split-Brain Chan Sore: A person has sores on the crown of the head, red, white, or even purple-black. Phlegm-saliva accumulates in the throat; speech may be possible or impossible. Named Split-Brain Chan Sore. Use one Momordica cochinchinensis seed (Mubiezi) roasted until charred but retaining nature, 3 fen; Bingpian (Borneol) from the crown, 4 li. Grind into powder and insufflate into the throat. Phlegm is expelled and the sore heals.

350. Fire Pearl: Boils appear among hair, spreading like pearls. Named Fire Pearl. Difficult to treat if delayed. Immediately mash raw Radish (Luobo), soak in good vinegar, and apply. This is an experienced prescription by Linwu Shanshan. Alternatively, mash Chrysanthemum indicum leaves (Juhua ye), mix with honey, and apply. Effective. Internally take Didong Yin (Vinca Decoction) for 1-2 doses for immediate cure.

351. Fetal Toxin: For fetal toxin on infant's head and face, use Fusui Shi (Floating Water Stone), calcined to retain nature, ground into powder. Place in bowl, mix with child's urine. Smoke with moxa wool until the face is uniformly yellowish. After cooling, mix with sesame oil and apply. Even cases lasting ten years heal in 3-5 days with miraculous effect. Treats all chronic toxic sores.

Another prescription: Bailong San. Dry buffalo dung, roast until charred, apply to affected area. Drains fluid, sheds scab, and cures.

352. Stone Boil: Red boils on head and face are called Stone Boils. Use Lianqiao (Forsythia suspensa), Huafen (Trichosanthes root), Chishao (Red Peony Root), Yinhua (Lonicera japonica), Gancao (Licorice), Cheqian (Plantago seed), Huashi (Talcum), Zexie (Alisma orientale), each 1 qian. Decoct in water and take. Externally, use Huangbai (Phellodendron), Chuanlian (Coptis chinensis), Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis), ground into powder, mixed with vinegar for application. Effective.

353. Dry Sore: Dry sores on the head without pus. Use eggshell from a hen that has hatched chicks, named Fenghuang Chao. Burn until charred, grind to fine powder, mix with sesame oil and apply.

354. Thousand-Layer Sore: Sores on the head that heal and recur endlessly. Named Thousand-Layer Sore. When ulcerated, use fresh olive pit ash mixed with egg yolk oil, apply with duck feather.

355. Bald Head Sore: Also known as Ringworm of the Scalp. Use Xianghuang San. Songxiang (Rosin), 2 liang, ground into powder, placed inside green onion tube, tied, boiled in water until melted. Remove onion, grind residue. Add Shui Fei Huangdan (Lead tetroxide, water-ground), 1 liang; Chao Wumingyi (Iron ore, fried), 1 qian; Chao Gongfen (White lead, fried), 1 qian; Qingfen (Calomel), 3 fen. Grind to fine powder, mix with sesame oil for application. Extremely effective for head and face weeping eczema. Another single prescription: Shave the sore with a knife, surround the head with thick cooked buckwheat flour. Pour fresh blood from a rooster onto the crown. Muscles regenerate in a few days.

356. Sore at Temple: Sore at Taiyang temple causes heavy head on day one, turns blue-purple on day two, spreads to chest causing death on day three. Caused by eating fried/rich foods or taking hot medicines. Initially, drink large amounts of decoction from Jin Yin Hua (Lonicera japonica), 2 jin, to resolve toxicity. Once ulcerated, use Jin Yin Hua (Lonicera japonica), Yuan Shen (Scrophularia ningpoensis), each 3 liang; Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis), 2 liang; Gan Cao (Licorice), 1 liang. Decoct in water, take one dose daily. Healing takes seven days. Sores on fingers/toes are also hard to save but can be treated with this formula.

Another case: Sudden red sores at temples, bleeding like threads when scratched. Apply thick slice of lean pork to stop bleeding. Or apply powder of Panzeris squama (Chanshunjia) fried and ground. Internally take Yuanshen Dihuang Tang (Scrophularia and Rehmannia Decoction) to cure.

357. Divine Prescription for Ringworm: Commonly known as Ringworm. Promotes hair growth after cure. Tested and transmitted by Mr. Yu Chengqi. First, wash with decoction of rice washing water, Mingfan (Alum), Huajiao (Zanthoxylum bungeanum), and Congtou (Green onion bulb). Second, use cow incisors, soaked in vinegar, roasted over charcoal fire seven times until charred, ground fine. Add a little cooked alum. Mix with pine tar oil and apply. Also effective for foot hemorrhoids.

358. Parotitis: Swelling of both cheeks without soreness is called Fa Yi. Use Tianma (Gastrodia elata), Baizhi (Angelica dahurica), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia divaricata), Jingjie (Schizonepeta tenuifolia), each 1 qian. Take with 3 qian of Xingxiao Wan (Xingxiao Pill). Cured. This is Linwu Shanshan's prescription.

359. Ear Disease: If insects crawl in ear, or blood/water flows out, or dry pain is unbearable. Use Shed skin of snake (Shetupi), burned to retain nature, ground into powder, insufflated. Immediate cure. This is an experienced secret prescription.

360. Ear Ding: Grain-sized lump inside ear, extremely painful, named Ear Ding. Use human fingernail, roasted on tile until charred, ground into powder. Add a little Meihua Bingpian (Plum-blossom Borneol), insufflate. Highly effective.

361. External Ear Sore: Sore outside ear. Use Huangbai (Phellodendron bark) powder, 5 qian; Machixian (Portulaca oleracea), 1 liang. Grind into powder and apply.

362. Ear Mushroom, Ear Hemorrhoid, Ear Projection: These conditions result from condensation of Liver fire, Kidney ministerial fire, or Stomach urgent fire. Mild swelling, dull pain, red color, broken skin, pain radiating to head upon touch. Use Qiansha (Arsenic trisulfide), 1 qian; Qingfen (Calomel), Xionghuang (Realgar), each 3 qian; Bingpian (Borneol), 5 li. Grind fine, mix with water to thick consistency. Dip millet stalk tip into mixture and apply to lesion. Also decoct Zhizi (Gardenia jasminoides), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong rhizome), Shigao (Gypsum fibrosum), Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis), Niubangzi (Arctium lappa seed), Chaihu (Bupleurum chinense), Jiushao (Wine-processed Paeonia lactiflora), Danpi (Moutan cortex), Gancao (Licorice), each 2 qian; Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis), Huanglian (Coptis chinensis), each 0.5 qian. Take after meals.

363. Sore Below Ear: Sore below ear, peach-sized, discharging pus and blood for years. Apply Qianfen (Lead carbonate). Cured in three days.

364. Ear Injury from Digging: Centipede with golden head, roasted to retain nature, ground into powder, insufflated. Immediate effect. Another prescription: Bingpian (Borneol), Yanzhi (Vermilion), roasted to ash, Muli (Oyster shell). Grind fine. Dip bone needle in sesame oil, dip into powder, insert into ear. Cures immediately.

365. Immortal Eye Wash Pill: Received from immortal transmission. For Liver deficiency eye disease, even total blindness, vision restores after one year of washing. Maintain heart calmness, avoid anger. Eye wash prescriptions vary in herbs and timing. This prescription cured hundreds with miraculous effect. Do not underestimate. Use Qingpi (Green Citrus Peel), 5 qian. Must be dry, slightly green-black. Red is Chenpi (aged peel), ineffective for washing. Decoct in water. Observe fasting during specified dates. Steam then wash eyes morning, noon, evening. Dates: Jan 3, Feb 4, Mar 4, Apr 9, May 6, Jun 4, Jul 3, Aug 9, Sep 10, Oct 2, Nov 8, Dec 24. Leap month follows previous date.

Another prescription: Also divine, treats Kidney deficiency eye disease. Cured many. Vision restores even in total blindness. Different herbs/dates but same efficacy. If previous prescription fails after one year, it is Kidney deficiency. Follow this prescription for one year for miraculous effect. Use Pixiao (Mirabilite), 5 qian; Pure water, 2 zhong. Decoct to 1 zhong. Fast during specified dates. Steam then wash eyes morning, noon, evening. Dates: Jan 3, Feb 1, Mar 3, Apr 4, May 5, Jun 4, Jul 3, Aug 5, Sep 12, Oct 13, Nov 14, Dec 12. Leap month: 2nd and 16th.

366. Blurred Vision: For blurred vision, use Heidou (Black Soybean), 100 grains; Huang Juhua (Yellow Chrysanthemum), 5 flowers; Pixiao (Mirabilite), 6 qian; Water, 1 zhong. Decoct to 0.7 zhong. Keep warm, steam and wash eyes. Change medicine every 5 days. Vision restores after one year. Avoid tea and anger.

367. Glaucoma Blindness: Glaucoma appears normal externally but patient cannot see. Use White Goat Liver, 1 pair, sliced with bamboo knife; Huanglian (Coptis chinensis), 1 liang, ground; Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia), 2 liang. Pound together into pills, size of wu zi. Take 70 pills with tea away from meals. Three times daily. Cui Chengyuan lost sight due to internal cataract. Someone gave him this prescription, and he recovered sight.

Another prescription: Tusizi (Cuscuta seed), Buguzhi (Psoralea corylifolia), Bajitian (Morinda officinalis), Chuan Niuxi (Cyathula root), Gouqi (Lycium fruit), Roucongrong (Cistanche deserticola), each 1 liang. Grind into powder, add Qingyan (Green Salt), 2 qian. Cut Pig Kidney in half, remove fascia, insert 1 qian of powder, tie tightly. Dip in aged wine, warm, heat, and eat. Most effective in early stages.

368. Reversed Pupil: Reversed pupil. Ineffective if white spots already present on eyeball. Use Mimenghua (Myrtus communis flower), Chantui (Cicada slough), Bai Gujingcao (Eclipta prostrata), Yuliren (Prunus humilis seed), Shigao (Gypsum fibrosum), Shijueming (Haliotis shell), Sheng Caojueming (Raw Cassia obtusifolia seed), Gancao (Licorice), Baigu Baifan, each 4 qian; Zhenzhu (Pearl), 4 fen, ground separately. Mix all powders, do not alter proportions. Mix with 2 liang lean pork, pound and boil. Eat. Chills indicate light will return. If light not fully restored, take another dose to cure. After cure, take Zhenjing Dan. Shigao (Gypsum fibrosum), Chantui (Cicada slough), Zhizi (Gardenia jasminoides), Huaihua (Sophora japonica flower), Bai Juhua (White Chrysanthemum), each 1 qian; Shengdi (Raw Rehmannia), Menghua (Myrtus communis flower), each 2 qian; Caojueming (Cassia obtusifolia seed), 1.5 qian; Gancao (Licorice), 0.5 qian. Decoct and take.

369. Night Blindness: Cannot see at night, commonly called Chicken Blindness. Due to Liver deficiency. Use Huangla (Beeswax), amount unspecified. Melt, remove, mix with Ge Fen (Clam powder) appropriately. Take 2 qian. Split 2 liang Sheep Liver, insert medicine, tie with hemp rope. Cook in 1 bowl water in copper vessel. Steam eyes while hot, then eat liver when warm. Twice daily. Cure is goal. Miraculous effect.

Another prescription: Cook Sheep Liver, dip in Baicaoshuang (Soot), eat 2-3 times. Cures.

370. Liver Heat Eye Pain: Longdancao (Gentiana scabra) alone, boiled in clay pot into paste. Apply to eyes. Can remove cloudiness even in blindness. Do not ignore due to simplicity. Another prescription received in Guanyin's dream: Xiakucao (Prunella vulgaris), fried, 2 liang; Cu Chao Xiangfu (Cyperus rotundus, vinegar-fried), 2 liang; Chao Gancao (Licorice, fried), 4 qian. Grind into powder. Take 1.5 qian with clear tea. Cures in days. Effective for severe night pain.

371. Kidney Deficiency Eye Pain: Use Sishen Wan. Gouqi (Lycium fruit), 1 jin. Soak in good wine overnight. Divide into four parts. Part 1 stir-fry with Chuanjiao (Sichuan pepper). Part 2 stir-fry with Xiaohuixiang (Fennel). Part 3 stir-fry with Zhima (Sesame). Discard these three parts. Part 4 stir-fry with Jing Qingyan (Pure Green Salt), 2 liang, ground. Salt enters medicine. Add Danggui Tou (Angelica sinensis head), Shengdi (Raw Rehmannia), Bai Juhua (White Chrysanthemum), Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala), Baifuling (Poria cocos), each 4 liang. Grind into powder. Take 3-4 qian with boiling water after lunch. Eyes become youthful. Miraculous effect, never fails.

372. Blurred Vision with Tearing: Lu Xian's prescription for blurred vision and tearing. Use Shengdi (Raw Rehmannia), Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia), Chuanjiao (Sichuan pepper, remove seeds, exclude closed ones), equal parts. Grind into powder. Form honey pills, size of wu zi. Take 50 pills on empty stomach with salt-rice water. Eyes become youthful after two months.

373. Eyes Unclosed: Woman frightened, eyes open day and night. Use Yuliren (Prunus humilis seed), 3 qian, boiled in wine until drunk. Cured miraculously.

374. Pterygium, Red Veins, White Membrane, Cloudiness: Secret prescription selected by Mr. Wang Jinshan. Treats pterygium, red veins, white membrane, cloudiness. Xiaozhang Jiujing San: Sheng Shixie (Stone Crab), finely ground; Lianqiao (Forsythia suspensa), each 1.5 qian; Lingyangjiao (Antelope horn), Caojueming (Cassia obtusifolia seed), Fangji (Stephania tetrandra), Chongweizi (Leonurus japonicus seed), Bajieli (Tribulus terrestris), each 1 qian; Jiu Chao Danshen (Gentiana scabra, wine-fried), Muzeicao (Equisetum hiemale), each 0.5 qian; Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemum morifolium), 0.8 fen. Decoct in 2 zhong water to 0.8 zhong. Take away from meals. Eliminates pterygium and all red veins, white membranes, cloudiness. Immediate effect. Never fails. Also treats Shaoyin wind-fire attacking head causing headache.

375. Sudden Pterygium: Rapid onset of pterygium covers white eye in half day, black eye in one day. Scrape rust from knife with few drops of cold water using chopstick end. Apply rust water to lesion frequently.

376. Red Spot on Eye: Red spot on white of eye, causing immediate facial swelling. Use real Xiongdan (Bear bile), size of two rice grains, dissolve in boiling water and take. Recovers immediately.

377. Bleeding from Eye: Woman's eye bleeds like shooting or flows down nose, menstruation stops. Syndrome of Yin deficiency with ministerial fire moving recklessly. Use Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis), wine-fried; Shengdi (Raw Rehmannia), wine-fried; Jiushao (Wine-processed Paeonia lactiflora); Chao Huanglian (Coptis chinensis, fried); Chao Huangbai (Phellodendron, fried); Chao Zhimu (Anemarrhena asphodeloides, fried); Chao Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis, fried); Mutong (Akebia quinata stem); Ce Baiye (Biota orientalis leaf); Chaihu (Bupleurum chinense); Taoren (Prunus persica seed); Honghua (Carthamus tinctorius), each 1 qian. Decoct in water and take. Cured next day.

Another prescription: Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Longdancao (Gentiana scabra), halved dosage. Decoct and take. Cures.

378. Hordeolum: Sudden redness, swelling, itching at eyelid margin. Named Hordeolum. On back, beside third thoracic vertebra, is Gaohuang acupoint. There must be a red dot. Burn Dengxin (Juncus effusus) dipped in sesame oil. Cures. Or scrape with comb back to reveal red dot. Use Shetupi (Snake skin), washed with soap water, soaked in vinegar, applied. Cures immediately. Or apply bedbug blood. Very effective.

379. Strabismus: Child's strabismus, black pupil stiff and immobile. Use Xininiu Huang (Buffalo gallstone), 5 fen; Pao Fuzi (Prepared Aconitum carmichaelii), Rougui (Cinnamon bark), Quanxie (Scorpion, washed and fried), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong rhizome), Shigao (Gypsum fibrosum), each 1 qian; Baizhi (Angelica dahurica), Huoxiang (Pogostemon cablin), each 2 qian. Grind into powder. Form honey pills, size of Euryale ferox seed. Take 1-2 pills with Mint decoction.

380. Ophthalmic Discharge: Pus discharge from eye. Use Longdancao (Gentiana scabra), Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis), each 1 qian. Grind into powder, take with warm wine.

381. Marginal Blepharitis: Wet, rotten, red, swollen eyelid margin. Use Tonglu (Malachite), 3 qian, ground. Mix thick with raw honey, coat rough bowl. Burn Aiye (Mugwort leaf), cover bowl with smoke until Tonglu turns black. Cool, mix with human milk, steam on rice, apply. Effective when other medicines fail. Also treats post-smallpox wind-eye.

382. Proptosis: Eyeball protrudes. Use Yinyanghuo (Epimedium brevicornu), Weilingxian (Salvia miltiorrhiza? No, Salvia chinensis or Clematis), each 1 qian. Decoct in water and take.

383. Enophthalmos: Eyeball retracts. Apply roasted old Ginger (Laojiang) to眉心 (Brow center). Cures.

384. Chalazion: Chalazion on eyelid, flesh wrapped in skin, date-sized or bean-sized. Mobile, normal skin color, hard, swollen, painless. Internally take Huajian Erchen Wan. Chenpi (Citrus reticulata peel), Banxia (Pinellia ternata), each 1 liang; Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice), Chuanlian (Coptis chinensis), each 3 qian; Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx batryticatus), 2 liang; Baifuling (Poria cocos), 1.5 liang. Grind into powder. Form pills with concentrated Lotus leaf decoction, size of wu zi. Take 2 qian with plain boiling water. Externally, use Sheng Nanxing (Raw Pinellia ternata) mixed with vinegar to thick juice, apply.

385. Rhinorrhea: Bad-smelling nasal discharge called Bi Yuan. Also called Brain Leak. Sour smell descends from brain crown through nostrils, unbearable odor. Sniff Zhen Songhua Fen (True Pine Pollen) frequently. Patient suffered for years, failed treatments. Cured in half month with this.

386. Nasal Sore: Sores inside nose. Drink decoction of Yimi (Coix lacryma-jobi) and Donggua (Winter melon). Miraculous effect. Externally, mash Xingren (Apricot seed) into paste, mix with human milk, insert into nose. Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment) more effective. Recipe: Huanglian (Coptis chinensis), Huangbai (Phellodendron), Jianghuang (Turmeric), each 3 qian; Guiwei (Angelica sinensis tail), 5 qian; Shengdi (Raw Rehmannia), 1 liang. Boil in 10 liang Sesame Oil until herbs are burnt, strain. Add Huangla (Beeswax), 4 liang, melt off heat, stir, cool. Apply to dry nose. For heat-type, apply immediately for effect.

387. Nasal Polyp: Polyps inside nose. Use Tiangua Di (Momordica charantia pedicle), 4 qian; Gansui (Kansui root), 1 qian; Kufan (Burnt Alum), Luoke Hui (Snail shell ash), Caowu Hui (Aconitum kusnezoffii ash), each 0.5 fen. Grind into powder, mix with sesame oil into pill size of nostril. Insert once daily. Polyp dissolves into water, tissue decays and falls out. Cures. Or use Bingpian (Borneol), Ou Jie (Lotus rhizome node with whiskers), roasted on tile, ground, mixed and inserted into nose. Excellent.
