Scales of Pangolin (use right scales for left hemiplegia, left scales for right hemiplegia), Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (Chuanwu, 川乌), and Red Sea Clam Shell (size like a chess piece) are each taken in two taels, and ground into fine powder.
For each dose, take one toad (Bufo bufo gargarizans). After killing it, immediately remove the head and feet, peel off the skin, cut it open, and remove the abdominal viscera and gallbladder. It must be washed clean, slightly chopped, and pounded in a mortar until extremely fine and smooth. Add Sha Jiu (Baijiu/Chinese liquor) to mix evenly, filter out the dregs with cloth, heat the filtered liquid, and drink it. Consume continuously for more than ten toads; the efficacy is boundless, especially effective if the condition was caused by excessive alcohol consumption. This is an immortal prescription. Toads with red eyes, red skin, and no "eight-character" pattern on the abdomen are toxic and must not be used. The gallbladder must be extracted cleanly; those with ruptured gallbladders should not be used. Furthermore, toads can spray toxic vapor; contact may cause sores that recur after healing, so caution is required. After recovery, avoid consuming toads for life. For weakness in the legs and feet making movement difficult, drink Yang Shen Jiu (Sheep Kidney Wine) (see Internal and External Prepared Formulas); walking ability returns within a few days, which is miraculously effective.
A patient suffered from wind paralysis (Feng Tan, 风瘫), unable to move any part of the body, with no effect from various medicines. Later, he took one qian of Feng Liaoxing Yao Jiu (Feng Liaoxing Medicinal Wine). He sweated profusely, vomited, and had diarrhea. Half a day later, his mobility returned to normal. After further medicinal regulation, he recovered completely, showing miraculous efficacy. Another young man with wind paralysis initially drank five qian of this wine without effect, but gradually increased the dose to one liang before seeing results. Since this youth was physically robust, the dosage was safe. However, those with weak constitutions or the elderly should not drink large amounts; this is a strict warning. This wine is available in Foshan Town, the provincial capital of Guangdong, and the provincial capital of Guangxi, along with prescription lists. For wind paralysis, start with one qian; if ineffective, adjust the dose accordingly, stopping when efficacy is achieved. This wine is potent; do not overdose. It is advisable for those with weak constitutions not to drink it. Blindly following the list without caution may lead to mishaps; please be careful. Note that sweating persists after drinking this wine; this indicates the pathogenic factor is exiting through the pores. Do not stop the sweating; allow it to subside naturally.
Burn pine needles to ash, wrap in cloth, and apply hot compresses to the affected area; this yields incomparable miraculous effects. This is also an immortal prescription.
Another formula: One jin of pine needles, pounded into a paste, soaked in three jin of Sha Jiu (Baijiu) for seven days. Drink as desired; it is very effective.
Another formula: Three raw Radices Aconiti Lateralis (Sheng Chuanwu, 生川乌), peeled and de-navelled, ground into powder, mixed with vinegar, applied on cloth patches; pain relief is immediate.
Another formula: Roots of Vitex negundo (Huang Jing Gen, 黄荆根) (wild-grown in April-May, rarely found in pharmacies, must be collected fresh from herbal suppliers), placed in a jar, and smoked with the smoke directed at both feet.
Another formula: Radix Clematidis (Weilingxian, 威灵仙), cleaned, dried, and ground into powder. Place in a bamboo tube, moisten with wine, undergo nine steaming and nine sun-drying cycles, adding wine when dry. Processed thus, form pills with white honey, sized like wu zi (wutzu seeds). Take twenty pills per dose, swallowed with warm wine. A patient who suffered from inability to move limbs and walk for decades could walk after taking this for a few days. Long-term use leads to complete recovery. Those with weak constitutions should take smaller doses.
