Postpartum blood stasis attacks upward, suddenly causing both breasts to elongate, becoming thin and small like intestines, extending straight down to the lower abdomen, with unbearable pain. This condition is called "Ru Xuan" (Breast Suspension), which is a critical syndrome.
Immediately use one jin of Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) and one jin of Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), decoct in water to make a concentrated soup, and take it warm occasionally. Then use two jin of the herbs, burn them gradually to produce smoke, place it under a table in front of the patient, and have the patient bend forward with head lowered, allowing the mouth, nose, and affected breast to frequently inhale the smoke. If the breasts do not shrink significantly, shake once more, then the blood stasis will dissipate and the nipples will naturally return to their original state. If they still do not recover, apply pounded Ricinus communis seed (Bimazi) to the top of the head for a moment, and wash it off once retraction occurs.
If the vaginal opening does not close, without swelling or pain, or if it remains open after swelling subsides, this is due to deficiency of Qi and Blood failing to consolidate and hold. Take Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Ten Thousand Tonic Benefits) for several doses, then treat with Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction for Supplementing the Middle and Augmenting Qi) added with Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae). Alternatively, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Zhi Banxia (Prepared Rhizoma Pinelliae) and Fuling (Poria) to strengthen the Spleen, so that Yuan Qi recovers and various diseases heal spontaneously. Or wash externally with Liuhuang Tang (Sulfur Decoction); the Lian Gong Fang (Uterine Contraction Formula) is also very effective for treating uterine laxity.
Postpartum prolapse of the labia/vagina is due to insufficiency of Yuan Qi; for Yin Ting (Yin Prolapse) protruding with swelling and pain, and clear fluid dripping continuously, use Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) added with Zhi Huangqi (Honey-fried Radix Astragali), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), and Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), each 5 fen, to achieve retraction. Or use Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Cu Chao Baishao (Vinegar-processed Radix Paeoniae Alba) 1 qian and Wuweizi 10 grains; or substitute with Jiu Chao Baishao (Wine-processed Radix Paeoniae Alba) 1 qian and Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi) 5 fen, to tonify and lift. One may also combine external treatment with Liuhuang San (Sulfur Powder). The Yi Yin (Ironing Yin) and Xi Yin (Washing Yin) methods are recorded below for reference.
Swelling and pain of the vaginal opening due to wind-cold invading the zang-organs should be washed with Danggui Tang (Angelica Decoction).
Postpartum Yin Ting (Yin Prolapse) and Yin Jun (Yin Fungus), and itching/pain caused by various parasites, are generally due to emotional stagnation transforming into fire, damaging the Liver and Spleen, with damp-heat pouring downward. Thus, there may be snake-like protrusions from the vagina, commonly called Yin Ting. There may be flap-like protrusions like pancakes, commonly called Yin Jun. There may also be shapes resembling chicken combs or mouse teats. There may also be various parasites causing swelling, pain, dampness, itching, ulceration, discharge, bloating, and prolapse. Internal symptoms include dry mouth, internal heat, feverish sensation on the body, loss of appetite, afternoon fever, chest and diaphragm discomfort, lower abdominal distension, red and white leukorrhea, and dribbling urination. Treatment methods: For Qi deficiency, use Shiquan Dabu Tang added with Wuweizi, doubling Renshen (Radix Ginseng) and Rougui, to tonify and consolidate. For initial postpartum swelling, pain, and heat, use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) or Xiaoyao San added with Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae) and Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan); if the postpartum period is long, treat similarly to miscellaneous diseases, using Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction) added with Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Danpi, and Longdancao (Radix Gentianae); for dampness and itching, use Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) added with Zhizi, Chaihu, and Danpi. For dribbling urination, use Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) added with Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) and Danpi; for ulceration and putrefaction, use Jiawei Xiaoyao San; for swelling, fullness, and prolapse, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Zhizi and Danpi. All the above syndromes can be assisted with external treatments. Select and use formulas such as Liuhuang Tang for ironing and washing the Yin area.
For postpartum uterine prolapse that does not retract, use Shouchang Fang (Intestine-Recovering Formula); Shenyang Dan (Divine Response Pill) recovers the uterus very quickly. For small sores growing in the postpartum vaginal opening, shaped like prickly heat, called Te Chuang (Hidden Sores), or painful/itchy like insect crawling with dripping pus, select from Liaoshi Fang (Erosion-Curing Formula), Jiaotang (Pepper Soup), Rouzhi (Meat Juice), Jinyin San (Silver-Gold Powder), and Shachong Liuhuang San (Parasite-Killing Sulfur Powder).
Liuhuang San (Sulfur Powder): Treats postpartum Yu Men (Jade Gate/Vaginal Opening) remaining open and not closing, and protrusion of the Yin area. Use 3 qian of Liuhuang (Sulfur), 2 qian each of Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae) and Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae), and 1.5 qian of Shechuangzi (Fructus Cnidii). Grind uniformly, decoct in one bowl of water, and wash frequently; it will naturally retract.
Lian Gong Fang (Uterine Contraction Formula): Treats uterine laxity. Decoct Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae), Huoxiang (Herba Pogostemonis), and Chun Gen Bai Pi (Cortex Toosendanidis Albus) in water for fumigation and washing; it is miraculously effective.
Liuhuang San (Sulfur Powder): Treats postpartum Yang Qi deficiency and cold, with Yu Men failing to close. Use 5 qian each of Liuhuang (Sulfur) and Ouzeigu (Cutula Sepiae), and 1 qian of Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae). Grind into powder, apply to the affected area, and change three times daily.
Yi Yin Xi Yin Fa (Ironing and Washing Yin Method): Treats Yin swelling, pain, and prolapse. Use Shechuangzi (Fructus Cnidii), any amount, stir-fry until extremely hot, place in a silk bag or wrap in cloth, and iron the affected area. Another method: use 5 liang of Shechuangzi and 14 Wumei (Fructus Mume), decoct in water, and wash 5-6 times daily.
Danggui Tang (Angelica Decoction): Treats postpartum wind-cold invading the viscera, causing Yin swelling and pain. Use Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis), Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), Diyü (Radix Sanguisorbae), Fanshi (Alumen), and Baijiang (Herba Patriniae). Decoct in water, adjust temperature to suit, and wash the Yin area for spontaneous healing. Qianjin Fang does not use Baijiang.
Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction): Treats damp-heat in the Liver channel, fullness and pain in the axilla and hypochondrium, and red, scanty, difficult urination. Use 1.5 qian each of Chaishu Shao (Tip of Bupleuri Root) and Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis), and 8 fen each of Cheqian (Semen Plantaginis), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae), Danggui Shao (Tip of Angelica Root), and Longdancao (Radix Gentianae), plus 2 qian of Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata) and 3 slices of Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens). Decoct in water, take hot after meals, and follow with a good meal to settle the medicine. This formula originates from Daochi San added with Chaihu and Longdancao, entering the Liver channel to drain damp-heat.
Formula for Treating Uterine Prolapse Not Retracting: Decoct Zhiqiao (Fructus Aurantii), Hezi (Nux Arecae Preparata), Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), and Baifan (Alumen) together in water for fumigation and washing. If it does not retract, moxa the Baihui point (GV20) on the vertex; a few moxa cones will cause it to rise. Whenever encountering uterine prolapse, moisten the prolapsed intestine with rust-water, take 1 qian of Zhen Cishi (Magnetitum) ground into powder mixed with wine, and the intestine will retract.
Qianjin Liaoshi Fang (Qianjin Erosion-Curing Formula): Treats Te Chuang. Use equal parts of Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae), Diyu (Radix Sanguisorbae), and Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae). Use five sheng of water, boil down to two sheng, remove dregs. Fumigate while hot, wash while warm, three times daily and once at night; it will heal.
Jiaotang Treatment Method: Treats small fragmented sores in the Yin area like prickly heat, intolerably itchy. Decoct 21 grains of Hujiao (Piperis Fructus) in water and wash; it will heal spontaneously.
Rouzhi Treatment Method: Treats sores inside the vaginal opening. Boil ten jin of pork in water to obtain half the volume as meat juice, soak the sore in it; when cold, reheat and soak again. It will heal within two or three applications.
Jinyin San (Silver-Gold Powder): Kills parasites in sores inside the vaginal opening. Use one sheng of Puhuang (Pollinis Typhae) and one liang of Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum). Grind these two ingredients into fine powder and apply to the sores for healing. Do not use this formula lightly.
Shachong Liuhuang San (Parasite-Killing Sulfur Powder): Treats Gan parasites eroding the lower five zang-organs. Grind Liuhuang (Sulfur) into fine powder. Take five to seven branches of peach wood from the southeast, gently beat the heads to loosen them, wrap cotton around them沾 with the powder to make it slightly thick, load into a bamboo tube, insert into the lower part first, then burn the peach wood branch wrapped with the medicine to fumigate.
