To treat various sores caused by Yang toxicity, characterized by redness, swelling, pain, and itching; it can immediately eliminate the condition before heat toxin forms pus. Use Desmodium caudatum (Shuilonggu), Dictamnus dasycarpus (Baixianpi), Phellodendron amurense (Huangbai), Indigo naturalis (Qingdai), Angelica dahurica (Baizhi), Ampelopsis japonica (Bailian), Cynanchum atratum (Baiwei), and Mirabilite (Puxiao), each 3 qian; Trichosanthes root (Huafen), Rheum palmatum (Dahuang), and Hibiscus mutabilis flower and leaves (Furonghuaye), each 1 liang. Grind into an extremely fine powder, mix with vinegar to form a paste for application. For areas where pus has already formed, leave them alone; for areas where pus has not yet formed, apply thoroughly.
To treat carbuncles, ulcers, and various toxins of Yin and Yang types, causing swelling and pain before ulceration. Apply this formula to promote pus discharge and draw out toxins. Use Wulongcao (i.e., Cayratia japonica, also known as Wuzhao Long, commonly produced in Jiangsu and Zhejiang), fresh Honeysuckle (Sheng Yinhua), [missing herb]cao, and Plantago asiatica root and leaves (Cheqian genye). All four ingredients should be fresh herbs, used in equal parts, pounded into a mud-like consistency. Then mix with 1 liang of Chen Xiao Fen (a type of starch) and 5 fen of salt, pound again into a paste. Apply evenly over the swollen area, leaving one hole in the center. Cover with cotton paper externally to protect against wind and cold. If Wulongcao is unavailable or inconvenient in this formula, doubling the amount of [missing herb]cao is also effective.
To treat unnamed swellings and toxicities, fire toxins, and epidemic swellings. Use Aquae Halloysitis Rubra (Han Shui Shi), Mirabilite (Pi Xiao), and Rheum palmatum (Da Huang), each 2 liang. Grind together into an extremely fine powder. In early summer, collect tadpoles in advance, store them in a glazed jar, seal it, and bury it three chi deep in the soil. By autumn, they will liquefy. Each time, take one bowl of this liquid, mix with the medicine to form a ball, dry in shade, and grind into a fine powder. Mix with water for application on swollen areas, or mix with honey for application.
To treat wind-dampness-heat toxins causing redness, swelling, pain, and itching, as well as early-stage scabies, prickly heat, boils, and furuncles. Use Realgar (Ming Xionghuang) 1 liang and Alum (Bai Fan) 8 qian. Grind together into an extremely fine powder. Mix with clarified tea water for topical application, frequently dipping to keep moist, or mix with lard or honey for application to prevent cracking and drying. Raw Bai Fan detoxifies; [missing method/herb] promotes tissue regeneration.
To treat carbuncles, ulcers, and yin sores presenting without heat, pain, swelling, or pus, as well as cold phlegm flowing obstruction, cold pain and bi-syndrome, wind-cold, damp-cold gout, stubborn numbness of hands and feet, dull pain in sinews and bones, and crab-knee disease (genu valgum/varum with swelling). For any diffuse swelling without a head, unchanged skin color, and lacking muscle heat or red painful symptoms, this paste can be applied. Use Galangal (Liang Jiang), Aconitum carmichaelii (Cao Wu), and Red Peony Root (Chi Shao - sliced and stir-fried until yellow), each 2 liang; Pinellia ternata (Nan Xing - roasted), Angelica dahurica (Bai Zhi), and young Cinnamon Twig (Nen Gui Zhi), each 1 liang. Grind all into an extremely fine powder. Mix with hot wine to form a paste and apply.
