Whenever a parturient exerts excessive effort during childbirth, labor fatigue damages the Spleen, causing Spleen Qi to be exhausted and unable to distribute nutrients to the four extremities, resulting in cold feet and upward reversal of Jue Qi (cold pathogenic qi). The *Classic of Internal Medicine* states: "When Yang Qi is deficient at the lower level, it manifests as Cold Jue; when Jue Qi reverses upward and fills the meridians, Shen Qi (Spirit) floats away from the body and dissipates." This condition requires emergency formulas to guide Qi back to its origin; without substantial tonification, how can Yang Qi be restored and Spirit revived? One must use Jiashen Shenghua Tang (Ginseng-Added Decoction for Generating New Blood) with an increased dose of Renshen (Ginseng), administered continuously for two doses, to make Qi and Blood abundant, thereby restoring Spirit and stopping Jue. If there is thirst, use Shaoyang San (Pulse-Nourishing Powder) as tea substitute to assist Jin Ye (Body Fluids) in moistening Zang organ dryness. Although symptoms such as cold limbs may resemble Yin syndromes of Shanghan (Cold Damage), Si Ni Tang (Decoction for Extremity Reversal) must not be used. Instead, Jiashen Shenghua Tang should be combined with Heijiang (Charred Ginger) or one piece of Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) to restore Yang, stop reversal, and thus sufficiently facilitate the action of Renshen and Danggui (Angelica Sinensis).
Jiashen Shenghua Tang (Ginseng-Added Decoction for Generating New Blood): Renshen (Ginseng) 2 qian, Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) 2 qian, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) 4 qian, Jiangtan (Charred Ginger) and Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) each 4 fen, Taoren (Peach Seed) 10 grains, plus Yuan Zao (Jujube) 2 pieces, decocted in water. If Jue resolves, temporarily remove Renshen; re-add it after blood clots and pain are eliminated (This treats postpartum Jue syndrome).
Zirong Yiqi Fushen Tang (Nourishing Glory, Tonifying Qi, and Restoring Spirit Decoction): For postpartum Jue without blood clot pain. Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Jiaozhu (Scorched Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Zhi Huangqi (Honey-fried Astragalus Root), Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) each 1 qian; Renshen (Ginseng), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) each 3 qian; Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 2 qian; Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 4 fen; Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel) 4 fen; Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) 10 grains. Decoct in water and take orally. For thirst, use Shaoyang San (Pulse-Nourishing Powder) as tea. For excessive sweating, add Mahuanggen (Ephedra Root) and Zaoren (Ziziphus Seed) each 1 qian. For persistent clot pain, add Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) 5 fen. For constipation, add Rongrong (Cistanche Stem) and Maren (Hemp Seed) each 2 qian. For phlegm, add Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice), Ju Hong (Red Tangerine Peel) 4 fen, and one cup of wine. For gradually cold hands, feet, and breath, add Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root) 5 fen and increase Renshen dosage.
If postpartum bleeding is heavy, observe whether the blood color is red or purple, and assess the deficiency or excess of Xing Qi (Physical Constitution and Qi). If the blood is mostly purple, it is stasis blood that should be expelled; retaining it will cause pain, so do not treat it as Beng Lou (Metrorrhagia/Metrostaxis). If the blood is bright red, it indicates that fright has injured the Heart preventing blood generation, anger has injured the Liver preventing blood storage, and labor has injured the Spleen preventing blood containment; this should be treated as Beng Lou. First, administer several doses of Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Generating New Blood); within the blood-invigorating action lies tonification, allowing blood to grow abundant. In cases of physical collapse, rapid breathing, or incessant sweating, administer Jiashen Shenghua Tang with increased Renshen to tonify Qi. When Yang generates, Yin grows, and blood becomes abundant; this cannot be treated with hemostatic drugs like Zonghui (Brown Ash). If more than a month has passed since delivery, Shengju Dabu Tang (Great Tonification and Ascending Decoction) is appropriate. This formula is suitable for elderly individuals with chronic weakness suffering from illness.
Jiashen Shenghua Tang (Ginseng-Added Decoction for Generating New Blood): Treats postpartum Beng Lou with physical collapse, profuse sweating, and rapid breathing. Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) 3 qian, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) 4 qian, Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike) 4 fen, Taoren (Peach Seed) 10 grains, Renshen (Ginseng) 3 qian, Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) 5 fen (remove after two doses), Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 5 fen, Zao (Jujube) 2 pieces. Decoct in water and take hot. For excessive sweating, add Huangqi (Astragalus Root) and Renshen (Ginseng)... [Text fragment implies missing characters, translated based on context].
Shengju Dabu Tang (Great Tonification and Ascending Decoction): Treats prolonged postpartum Beng Lou that does not cease. Or expulsion of large clots like chicken eggs, or blood loss in sheets. It is suitable to greatly tonify the Spleen and Stomach, ascend and lift Qi and Blood, with a small addition of herbs that suppress and sink Heart Fire. This formula also treats Beng Lou in both young and old. Renshen (Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) each 3 qian; Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) 1 qian; Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) 1.5 qian; Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 2 qian; Huangqi (Astragalus Root) 1 qian; Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root) 4 fen; Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike) 4 fen; Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark - stir-fried, avoid if diarrhea exists), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) each 4 fen; Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Gancao (Licorice Root) each 5 fen. For thirst, add Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) and Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry). For diarrhea, add Zexie (Alisma Rhizome) and Lianzi (Lotus Seed). For phlegm, add Banxia (Pinellia Tuber). For concurrent leukorrhea, add Cangzhu (Atractylodes Lancea Rhizome) and Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) each 1 qian.
