Whenever a woman has just given birth, she should immediately place both breasts in warm rice-washing water to rub and wash them, and squeeze out the milk. If there are several white silk-like strands inside the nipple pores, they should be pulled off by hand. At this time, feeding the infant will make it easier for the baby to suckle, preventing diseases such as breast engorgement (breast congestion) and mastitis (acute purulent infection of the breast). This is a secret method.
For women giving birth for the first time, the breasts may just be developing, and the milk meridians may not yet be unobstructed. For women who have given birth many times, Qi and Blood may be deficient, resulting in scanty lactation. In all these cases, use Jia Wei Si Wu Tang (Modified Four Substance Decoction): Dang Gui Shen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis Root), Dang Shen (Radix Codonopsis), Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Chi Shao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Jie Geng (Radix Platycodonis), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis), and Bai Zhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), each one qian, decocted in water and taken orally. If lactation is obstructed accompanied by high fever, chest and diaphragm distension, dizziness, and vertigo, add Tong Cao (Medulla Tetrapanacis) and Hua Shi (Talcum), decoct in water, and take after meals. Simultaneously, consume pig trotter soup, and the lactation will naturally flow. Use one pair of pig trotters, clean them, boil until tender, mix with scallions, and consume with the broth. It is also said that adding Shan Jia (Squama Manis, pangolin scales) stir-fried in sesame oil during boiling, removing the scales before consumption, yields miraculous effects. Alternatively, refer to the various galactagogue prescriptions in Volume 2 under the Breast section for treatment.
Take three slices of old ginger, crush them with the skin intact, and stir-fry with two jin of pure sesame oil until dry. First, fold five chi of old silk cloth, gently lift the prolapsed intestinal tissue ("meat thread"), coil it into two or three loops, and insert it back into the vagina. Then, place the ginger in a silk bag to fumigate the area with its aroma, replacing it immediately when it cools. After fumigating for one day and night, most of the tissue will retract; within two days, it will fully retract, yielding extraordinary effects. The prolapsed tissue must not be broken; if broken, it cannot be treated. Wind exposure should be avoided.
Whenever a woman has expelled the placenta after childbirth, but part of the intestine protrudes (colloquially known as "outer garment"), or if the placenta on the intestine has not completely detached, do not panic, nor take medicine. Wash the area with a decoction of Zhi Ke (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), and strictly avoid wind. If afraid of wind and cold, washing is optional; the tissue will naturally necrose and fall off after three to five days. Recently, many people have experienced this, finding it harmless with no sequelae. If a large amount of intestine protrudes, treat according to the following prescription.
Use three jin of pure sesame oil, refine it until cooked, pour into a basin, and wait until it is warm. Have the puerpera sit in the basin. Separately, burn the tips of Zao Jiao (Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis) until charred, remove the skin, grind into fine powder, and insufflate into the nose to induce sneezing, which will cause immediate retraction.
Another prescription: Decoct Liang liang of Zhi Ke (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) in water, soak the prolapse in the warm liquid for a long time until it retracts naturally; replace the liquid as it cools. Or treat according to the previous meat thread prescription (see above), or refer to the subsequent uterine prolapse prescriptions.
Yet another prescription: Take fresh crucian carp heads, roast until dry, and grind into fine powder. Apply half to the protruding intestine, and take the other half with wine for oral administration; retraction occurs immediately.
