Postpartum heart pain is actually epigastric pain, because the epigastrium is located below the heart. It causes pain due to invasion of cold pathogenic factors and consumption of cold foods. Using Shenghua Decoction (Blood-Generating Decoction) combined with herbs that dispel cold and promote digestion will ensure recovery. If there is pain inside the abdomen, it must be due to blood stasis clots not yet eliminated. Taking only Shenghua Decoction, assisted by Yimu Pill (Motherwort Pill) and Cervus Cornu Carbonis (Charred Deer Horn), will resolve the stasis and stop the pain. If wind-cold invades the abdomen due to deficiency causing pain, Jiawei Shenghua Decoction (Modified Blood-Generating Decoction) is also suitable, as it contains Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) and Zhuyu (Cornus Fruit), which can warm and disperse cold. If it is Zhenxintong (True Heart Pain), the fingernails turn cyanotic black, or the hands and feet become cold beyond the wrists; if onset occurs in the morning, death follows in the evening, and there is no cure.

Jiawei Shenghua Decoction: Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Ligusticum Chuanxiong) 2 qian, Danggui Radix (Angelica Sinensis) 4 qian, Pa Jiang (Prepared Ginger) and Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) each 5 fen, Taoren Persicae Semen (Peach Kernel) 10 grains (remove when pain stops), Rougui Cinnamomi Cortex (Cinnamon Bark).

Postpartum generalized body pain occurs because after childbirth, all joints are open, blood vessels stagnate, and this stagnation persists for days, causing the meridians and collaterals to be unsmooth. Consequently, the waist and back cannot turn or bend, and the hands and feet cannot move or walk. This may be accompanied by fever and headache. If mistakenly diagnosed as Taiyang exterior syndrome and treated with diaphoresis (sweating methods), it will cause coldness in the hands and feet, turning into a critical condition. Qutong San (Pain-Dispelling Powder) is suitable for treatment. In women, the Kidney position connects to the Bao Palace (uterus), and the waist is the mansion of the Kidney. Childbirth labor injures Kidney Qi and damages the Bao Luo (uterine collaterals). Alternatively, wind-cold attacks before postpartum recovery is complete. Both conditions lead to lower back pain, and Yangrong Zhuangshen Tang (Nourishing Prosperity and Strengthening Kidney Decoction) combined with Jiawei Dazao Wan (Modified Great Creation Pill) is appropriate. If there is lower abdominal pain and Shenghua Decoction has not been taken, inquire about the lochia. If massage alleviates the pain slightly, it belongs to deficiency, and Jiawei Shenghua Decoction is suitable for treatment.

Qutong San: Danggui Radix 2 qian, Renshen Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Ginseng Root) and Baizhu Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) each 1 qian, Huangqi Astragali Radix (Astragalus Root), Chuan Nixi Cyperi Rhizoma (Cyperi Rhizome - *Note: Context implies Chuan Niu Xi Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix*), Duhuo Angelicae Pubescentis Radix each 8 fen, Rougui Cinnamomi Cortex 5 fen, Jiu Bai Allii Tuberosi Bulbus (Garlic Chive White) one tuō, Shengjiang Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Fresh Ginger) 3 slices, decocted in water.

Yangrong Zhuangshen Tang: Danggui Radix 2 qian, Fangfeng Saposhnikoviae Radix 4 fen, Duhoge Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, Guixin Cinnamomi Cortex (Cinnamon Twig/Bark), Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Duzhong Eucommiae Cortex, Jisheng Taxilli Herba (Viscum Americanum), Chuan Duan Drynariae Rhizoma each 8 fen, Shengjiang Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens 3 slices, decocted in water.

Jiawei Shenghua Decoction: Chuanxiong Rhizoma 1 qian, Danggui Radix 3 qian, Taoren Persicae Semen 10 grains, Pa Jiang Prepared Ginger and Zhi Gancao Honey-fried Licorice Root each 4 fen, Rougui Cinnamomi Cortex 5 fen, Yuanhu Corydalis Rhizoma 5 fen. The last two ingredients are removed when pain stops. If there are no blood clots below the umbilicus but pain persists, add Shudi Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 3 qian.
