This is also an acute condition. It arises in the throat, resembling a boot nail, with a pointed and elongated shape, appearing purplish-black and hard. Initially, there is numbness and itching, which quickly turns into severe pain. Immediately administer Chuwen Huadu San (Plague-Dispelling and Toxin-Resolving Powder) with an increased dose of Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), decocted and taken orally. Alternatively, use fresh Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), including stems and leaves, three to four liang, decocted in water and stewed for oral consumption; wild Juhua is also acceptable.
Another prescription: Use Lufengfang (Vespa Nest) and Chantui (Cicada Slough), each calcined to preserve its nature, ground into fine powder. Take one qian per dose, mixed with wine. For mild cases, one dose brings immediate cure; for severe cases, take two consecutive doses. Shortly after, severe abdominal pain occurs; once the pain subsides, the patient recovers.
This is named Lanhou (Rotting Throat). At the onset, the throat feels dry, as if constantly pricked by straw, accompanied by pain and itching. After a long time, the color becomes dark purple and dull, gradually rotting. There is frequent expectoration of phlegm and saliva, increasing pain daily, and difficulty in eating. The etiology stems from chronic deficiency of Kidney Water (Yin), causing Xianghuo (Ministerial Fire) to flare upward. It may also result from excessive consumption of fried, roasted, rich, pungent, and hot foods, leading to accumulated heat in the Stomach, manifesting as bad breath, thirst, dry tongue with yellow coating, swollen and painful gums, and sores on the mouth and tongue. This is caused by the薰 steaming of the Lung by Ministerial Fire and Stomach Fire. Treatment should tonify Kidney Water and clear Stomach Heat, preferably using Ganlu Yin (Sweet Dew Decoction). If Stomach Heat is severe, add Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Yinhua (Jinyinhua/Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Niuzi (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Fenge (Puerariae Radix), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) according to the situation. Zhubai Dihuang Tang (Anemarrhenae, Phellodendri, and Rehmannia Decoction) is also suitable. For insufflation into the throat, Yuanzhu Dan (Pearl Pill) is considered the most effective. Patients must avoid chicken, fish, mutton, liquor, fried/roasted foods, rich flavors, pungent/hot items, and "fa wu" (triggering foods). They should maintain a pure heart, reduce desires, and follow a bland diet for recuperation; otherwise, the rotting will spread, forming small holes resembling insect bites or ant erosion, making it largely incurable.
This condition is often caused by Wind-Heat. In mild Yang syndromes, the initial presentation may involve slight redness and swelling with mild pain, and no significant obstruction to eating. Without proper caution, excessive consumption of chicken, fish, fried/roasted foods, rich flavors, ginger, pepper, and other heat-toxin triggering foods, or the mistaken administration of warming and tonifying herbs like Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), acts like adding oil to fire, intensifying the heat toxin. This leads to worsening redness, swelling, and pain, gradually rotting into holes that widen over time. If not treated early, or if further heating herbs like Jiang and Fuzi are administered, even the uvula may be destroyed, rendering the case largely incurable. The treatment method involves first rinsing the throat and tongue thoroughly with strong decoction of aged tea leaves, then frequently insufflating Yuanzhu Dan onto the affected area. Initially, administer Shengong Pixie San (Divine Merit Evil-Expelling Powder) for several doses, followed by Ganlu Yin or Zhubai Dihuang Tang, adjusting the dosage based on the severity of the disease. Recovery takes more than half a month to a month. Post-meal, strictly avoid fried/roasted foods, rich flavors, chicken, fish, spicy items, and heat-toxin triggering foods; alcohol and sexual indulgence must be strictly prohibited. Recuperation requires six months to prevent recurrence. Alternatively, Renzhonghuang (Human Excrement Yellow) can be ground into powder and taken with water, which is extremely effective.
