Poisonous pathogens invade the Qi of the Zang-Fu organs, causing obstruction and blockage. They attack upwards to the vertex (Dian Ding) where the Three Yang meridians converge, thus causing pain penetrating into the brain marrow, accompanied by dizziness, heaviness, and loss of consciousness. This condition is named True Headache (Zhen Tou Tong). If not treated urgently, death may occur within a day or two. Emergency acupuncture at the vertex should be performed to drain the poison. The medicinal prescription should primarily focus on breaking down the poison and clearing the Zang-Fu organs.
If poisonous pathogens invade the Blood of the Zang-Fu organs, causing stagnation and stasis with impaired flow, they rush upwards to the Three Yang meridians and the muscles of the head and face. Consequently, muscle swelling, closed eyes, blocked ears, and chest/heart irritability occur. Emergency acupuncture at the vertex and other visible blue veins (Sha Jin) should be performed. Medicinal treatment should clear the Blood level, prioritizing the resolution of stagnation and obstruction. (Refer to Formulas: Tu Er Fang, Tu San Fang).
A patient suffered from headache, dizziness, and heaviness, with a deep-hidden pulse. After acupuncture at the vertex and Sha Jin, symptoms slightly improved, but the pulse became deep, solid, and extended to the Yu Ji area. Formula Tu Er Fang was administered.
A female patient presented with redness and swelling of the head and face, fever, headache, and mental confusion. Her pulse was hollow (Kou) and rapid. Three needles were inserted at the popliteal crease of the left leg, resulting in profuse bleeding. Half a cup of Hong Hua Gao (Safflower Paste) was taken cold, followed by the administration of Formula Tu San Fang.
If the pathology belongs to Qi, the pain comes and goes intermittently, accompanied by phlegm-saliva misting the mind. Acupuncture should be applied to the arms, and Qi-regulating medicines should be the primary treatment. If the pathology belongs to Blood, severe unceasing pain occurs with stupor and unconsciousness. Acupuncture should be applied to the popliteal region, and blood-invigorating medicines should be the primary treatment. Delayed treatment makes rescue difficult.
A patient experienced sudden severe pain in the heart/chest, with phlegm-saliva obscuring consciousness. The Cun pulses of both hands were deep and hidden, while the Guan and Chi pulses were surging and tight. Twenty needles were inserted into the Sha Jin points, and Formula Shi San Fang was used. After four doses, the condition stabilized.
When Sha poison enters the Kidney, it causes lower back pain preventing flexion and extension. If hot drinks are mistakenly consumed, it will inevitably lead to restlessness, coma, convulsions, short tongue, deafness, and impending death.
A female patient suffered from severe, board-like stiffness in the waist. After mistakenly drinking hot wine, she developed fever, restlessness, stupor, and surging phlegm. The Left Chi pulse was deficient and faint, while the Right Chi pulse was surging and solid, with intermittent interruptions. Initial bloodletting yielded no blood. Formula Shi Si Fang was administered. When the veins appeared at the popliteal crease, two needles were inserted, allowing blood to flow. Two additional doses were taken, reducing the pain.
When poison enters the Large Intestine and Small Intestine, severe, unceasing lower abdominal pain occurs, with the abdomen feeling hard like a board and twisting pain persisting. Treatment verification involves observing flexion and extension of the thighs on either side (refer to Formula Tu Si Fang).
In summer, if there is no headache or fever, but only lower abdominal pain, or if both the heart and abdomen are painful, distended, and stiff preventing movement, this is due to Summer-heat Fire flowing into the Zang-Fu organs. Thus, lower abdominal pain starts first and spreads to the heart and abdomen. Liu He Tang should be used for clearing and resolving, or Si Ling San added with Xiang Ru, Mu Gua, and Zi Su for harmonizing and dispersing. Alternatively, Zheng Qi San added with Hei Zhi Zi, or a mixture of fried salt water and Yin-Yang water can be used to induce vomiting to expel phlegm-saliva.
A young male suffered from severe lower abdominal pain, unable to flex his left leg when lying on his left side. This was Sha disease of the Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. After three doses of Tu Si Fang, the veins appeared. Two needles were inserted at the left popliteal crease, and Si Qi Fang was taken cold, leading to recovery.
Another patient suffered from severe lower abdominal pain, unable to flex his right leg when lying on his right side. This was Sha disease of the Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. Four needles were inserted into the blue veins at the popliteal crease; although blood flowed, the condition did not improve. Zhu Ba Fang was taken cold. By midnight, the Sha pathogen receded, and the patient stabilized.
