Refer to the previous chapters. When pustules have not yet erupted, but a single one appears first on the Yintang (GV29) point, it is named "Xiao Xing Bao Dian" (Dawn Star Reporting Point). This type of pustule can block all toxins; it must be urgently cauterized with a burning lamp. However, children fear the lamp light and will inevitably dodge. Therefore, a copper coin should be pressed onto the pustule so that the pustule erupts violently through the square hole of the coin, and then cauterization is performed, thus avoiding errors. In one case, a child had sparse pustules and tidal fever had subsided, but I observed two unusually large pustules on the Tian Ting (forehead area). I said: These should be removed. The family did not believe my words. The following evening, they returned to consult me again, stating that the child's tidal fever had recurred, accompanied by irritability, restlessness,惊谵 (delirium), and all pustules had changed color. Upon visiting, I removed the pustules and applied medicine. The fever subsided, the person became calm, and the pustules subsequently swelled. Do not consider this harmless.

When pustules are dense, although the Tian Ting (forehead) and Di Jiao (chin corners) appear clear, the cheeks are obscured, presenting a uniform crimson red without distinct boundaries. This indicates toxin in the Liver and Lungs. If not treated urgently, once coughing and loss of voice occur, it will be difficult to save. Use Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Zi Cao Rong (Arnebiae Radix), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Niu Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), and Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), decocted and taken orally. Externally, wash the face frequently with water boiled from Shui Liu Cao (Salix Tomentella or similar willow herb); the pustule color will immediately change. Alternatively, rub Zhi Yi Mi (a type of rice used for coloring) into water and apply to the pustules; this also detoxifies and invigorates blood, though it makes color differentiation more difficult.

A single black pustule at the corner of the mouth that is particularly large is called "Dan Suo Kou" (Single Locking Mouth); black pustules at both corners of the mouth are called "Shuang Suo Kou" (Double Locking Mouth). Both are ominous signs. This indicates toxin congealing in the Stomach, leading to death due to inability to eat. Upon seeing this, the pustule must be lanced, and foul blood sucked out with the mouth, followed by application of Ba Ding San (Pulling Carbuncle Powder, see previous carbuncle formulas). Having several such points initially is also inauspicious. Pustules in the throat hollow indicate oppression and stifling sensation. Pustules behind the ears or in the neck hollow are inauspicious. Furthermore, any pustule appearing anywhere that is uniquely large and abnormal is dangerous. When many pustules appear in the throat hollow and neck hollow, it is called "Zhu Jing" (Pig Neck) or "Suo Xiang" (Locking Neck). If it extends to the chin, it is called "Tuo Yi" (Supporting Chin). This condition leads to inability to eat, rotting of the throat, or death due to hoarseness. Urgently use Shan Dou Gen (Sophorae Tonkinensis Radix), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gui Wei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Tail), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), and Niu Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus), decocted and taken orally. If treatment is delayed, toxin will knot in the throat, making it incurable.
