When a newborn first leaves the womb, some cases of persistent vomiting and abdominal distension are caused by constipation, leading to the retention of foul waste in the abdomen. Use Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Aurantii Fructus (Zhike), and Red Poria (Chifuling) in equal parts, grind into fine powder, make honey pills the size of wutong seeds, dissolve one pill in breast milk, and instill into the mouth.
Alternatively, decocting Papaveris Fructus (Mugua) and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang) for drinking is also effective.
Another prescription for vomiting milk within three days after birth: three grains of Cardamomi Fructus (Dingxiang), 3 fen of Tangerine Peel (Chenpi), and 3 fen of Roasted Ginger (Weijiang), decocted in water and administered.
For infants who do not suckle and vomit after birth, this is due to abdominal distension caused by the umbilical cord stump not having fallen off and urine not being passed. Administer Yi Nian Jin (One Twist Gold, a formula) mixed with boiled water. If the infant cries excessively with a bluish-white complexion, it indicates fetal coldness and abdominal pain. One must carefully distinguish between cold and heat patterns and use Yunqi San (Harmonizing Qi Powder). Alternatively, grind Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Baikouren), Amomi Fructus (Sharen), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata (Zhigancao) into an extremely fine powder, apply frequently inside the infant's mouth, or smear on the nipple/breast for the infant to ingest. If the milk is vomited out directly without staying, decoct Fried Malto (Chaomaiya) 2 qian, Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum (Juhong) 1 qian, and Cardamomi Fructus (Dingxiang) 3 fen in water; the vomiting will stop immediately.
In newborns and those under one hundred days old, white spots or blisters appear on the gum roots, resembling millet grains. For mild cases, decoct Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao). Dip a piece of soft green cloth wrapped around a finger into the decoction to wash away the white spots in the mouth, then squeeze out saliva. Slight bleeding is acceptable; the goal is to completely remove the white spots. Then, grind aged ink using the Bohe-Gancao-Huanglian decoction and coat the entire mouth. Prevent the infant from suckling milk. After sleeping for a while, recovery is immediate. For severe cases, known as Zouma Yagan (Running Horse Gum Disease/Gum Gangrene), caused by heat-toxin attacking the stomach, urgently pierce all white spots with a silver hairpin or fingernail to release foul blood, ensuring it is not swallowed, and wipe clean with soft cloth. Sometimes the removed white spots are as large as half a grain of rice. After thorough removal and cleaning, apply Renzhongbai (Human Urine Deposit, calcined to preserve nature) 1 qian, along with Vitriolum Viride Calcined (Lvfan, calcined), Galla Chinensis (Wubeizi, charred), and Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) each 2 fen, plus a small amount of Moschus (Shexiang). Grind into an extremely fine powder and apply to the affected area. Prevent suckling; effectiveness is immediate.
Alternatively, applying thick juice extracted from Steamed Sparganii Herba (Puhuang) with a green cloth to wash the area is also effective.
Alternatively, cat feces found on roof tiles after frost, calcined to preserve nature, ground into powder. Add Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) 5 fen, Huanglian 3 fen, and Bingpian 1 fen per 1 qian of cat feces powder. Grind finely and sprinkle on the gum roots; this is also effective.
Alternatively, take one Jujubae Fructus (Dazao) pitted, fill it with Kengsha (Pit Sand), wrap in mud, then in wet grass paper, and bake thoroughly over charcoal fire. Remove mud and paper, grind the Dazao and Kengsha into an extremely fine powder, add a little Shexiang, and apply to the gum disease for cure.
Another prescription for Zouma Yagan: Huanglian 1 liang, Pengsha (Borax), and Danshan (Alumen Cupri), each 1 qian, and Bingpian 5 li. Grind into fine powder and apply.
Another prescription: Tonglv (Copper Green, water-ground), Xionghuang (Realgar, water-ground), Wubeizi (charred), Kufan (Calcined Alum, burned from white sheep skin to preserve nature), Wuemei Rou (Umeboshi Flesh, roasted dry)... [Text fragment unclear], Shen (Ginseng), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) decocted to yield 6 fen liquid... [Note: The source text here appears fragmented/corrupted].
Another prescription for infant gum root rot: Huangbo (Phellodendron Bark), Huanglian, Pengsha, Danshan, and Qingdai in equal parts. Grind into an extremely fine powder and apply to the affected area for immediate cure.
