Whenever abdominal pain occurs intermittently during pregnancy, accompanied by a heavy and bearing-down sensation in the lower abdomen, this is due to Qi deficiency causing Qi to descend. In cases occasionally complicated by Cold, Jiawei Antai Yin (Additive Decoction for Calming the Fetus) is indicated for treatment. Jiawei Antai Yin: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) each 2 qian; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Sugen (Perillae Caulis), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 4 fen; Sharen (Amomi Fructus) 5 fen. For those with Cold, add Wuyu (Evodiae Fructus) 5 fen and Jiangjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 5 fen. Decoct in water and take orally.
Whenever the lower abdomen feels distended and empty during pregnancy, caused by consuming hard foods that damage the fetus, once the fetus is diseased, the pathology transmits to the Spleen and Stomach. If the Stomach Qi becomes deficient and cold, pressing downward on the Small Intestine, presenting with symptoms such as waist heaviness similar to Ben Tun (Rushing Pig disease), constipation, and empty buzzing sounds in both hypochondria, Shengjin San (Golden Victory Powder) is indicated to warm the Middle and direct rebellious Qi downward, thereby calming the fetus. Shengjin San: Wuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Junjiang Pao (prepared Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma), Jiangjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) each 2 liang 5 qian; Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each... Whenever abdominal distension occurs due to fetal Cold during pregnancy, accompanied by empty buzzing in both hypochondria, pain below the umbilicus with an urge to defecate, frequent urination, and loose slippery stools, this is because the fetus has already formed, but the mother consumed excessive fruits, melons, or raw/cold foods, or cooled herself in the wind, contracting non-seasonal pathogenic factors. This causes fetal unrest, prickling sensations in the skin and hair, and stiffness/tightness of sinews and bones, resulting in maternal illness. An Tai He Qi Yin (Decoction for Calming the Fetus and Harmonizing Qi) should be urgently administered. An Tai He Qi Yin: Hezi Mian Wei (Arecae Semen Roasted with Flour), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) each 2 liang; Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) each... Whenever palpitations and mental restlessness occur during pregnancy, with frequent nightmares and fright, fullness and distension in the hypochondria and abdomen, followed by urgent pain radiating to the umbilicus after some time, shortness of breath, and anxiety, this indicates that the fetal Qi has formed. After the Five Zang Organs have been nourished for a long time, sudden Qi stagnation or loud shouting may cause fetal fright, leading to pain in sinews and bones and restlessness in the four limbs. Dasheng San (Great Sage Powder) should be urgently used for treatment. Dasheng San: Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Fuling (Poria) each 2 qian; Zhi Huangqi (Astragali Radix Praeparated with Honey), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 5 fen; three slices of fresh ginger. Decoct in water.
Whenever dizziness, blurred vision, swelling, and hardness of the cheeks and neck occur during pregnancy, this is due to damaged fetal Qi with Heat-Toxin attacking upward. Severe pain with nausea, stiffness and tension in the back and neck, causing visual disturbances and flashing lights, if compounded by Phlegm obstruction, constitutes a critical condition imminent with danger. Xiaofeng San (Wind-Extinguishing Powder) should be urgently administered. Xiaofeng San: Yucha (Pre-Qingming Tea), Ganju (Chrysanthemi Flos), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Add fresh ginger, decoct, and take before meals.
