In cases where, near the end of pregnancy, there is a sudden onset of blurred vision to the point that even lamp light cannot be seen, accompanied by headache and swelling of the neck such that turning the head is impossible, this is caused by long-term residence on heated kang beds, with heat accumulating in the clothing and bedding. This internal heat retention, or excessive consumption of tonifying medicines and hot-natured foods, leads to fetal heat. Consequently, the Liver becomes extremely congested, allowing Wind-Heat to attack upwards into the brain, resulting in these symptoms. It is urgent to treat with Tiandong Yinzi (Asparagus Root Decoction). One must strictly avoid alcohol, garlic, roasted/fried foods, greasy items, and all other acrid-hot stimulating substances; otherwise, vision will not recover.
Tiandong Yinzi (Asparagus Root Decoction): Asparagi Radix (Tian Dong) and Schizonepetae Herba (Jing Jie), each 1.5 qian; Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuan Xiong), Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shu Di), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Bai Shao), Poria (Fu Ling), and Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhi Mu), each 2 qian; Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Ren Shen) 0.6 qian; Schisandrae Fructus (Wu Wei Zi) 14 berries; Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fang Feng) and Leonuri Fructus (Chong Wei Zi), each 1 qian. Once eye symptoms subside, administer one dose every other day; initially, approximately one dose per day is sufficient.
In cases where, during pregnancy, there is widespread stabbing pain and distension throughout the body, this is due to dysfunction of the Five Zang organs and deficiency/emaciation of Qi and Blood. Caused by consuming raw/cold foods or exacerbating cold exposure, it presents with white lips and blueish complexion, spasms and contraction of sinews and vessels, soreness and pain of bone joints, dry and rough skin and hair, rapid breathing and wheezing, constipation, and frequent vomiting. This is a critical condition; it is urgent to use Ping'an San to protect both mother and fetus.
Ping'an San (Peaceful Pregnancy Powder): Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Hou Po), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chen Pi), Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shu Di), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuan Xiong), Aucklandiae Radix (Mu Xiang), three slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Jiang, baked), and a pinch of salt. Decoct in water and take orally.
In cases where, during pregnancy, hematemesis (vomiting blood) or epistaxis (nosebleed - 'Nu' sounds like 'rou', referring to blade injury) occurs, or significant blood loss results from trauma, leading suddenly to trismus (lockjaw), rigidity of the neck and back, resembling stroke symptoms, Ji Jian An Tai Yin (Modified Fetus-Securing Decoction) is suitable.
Ji Jian An Tai Yin (Modified Fetus-Securing Decoction): Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Ren Shen), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Bai Zhu), Ophiopogonis Radix (Mai Dong), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shu Di), and Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tian Ma), each 2 qian; Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fang Feng) and Schizonepetae Herba (Jing Jie), each 1 qian; Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chen Pi) and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao), each 0.5 qian; three slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Jiang). Decoct in water and take orally.
In cases where, during pregnancy, there is facial redness, dry mouth, bitter tongue sensation, irritability, abdominal distension, or generalized joint soreness and pain, along with urinary difficulty/obstruction, this is due to excessive consumption of alcohol, fruits, fish, meat, and all other pungent, fishy, and hot-toxic substances. Treat with Guiliang Jieming Yin (Blood-Cooling Life-Securing Decoction).
Guiliang Jieming Yin (Blood-Cooling Life-Securing Decoction): Boehmeriae Caulis (Zhu Gen), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Bai Shao), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuan Xiong), and Ophiopogonis Radix (Mai Dong), each 1 qian; Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Bai Zhu, raw) 1.5 qian; Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Sha Ren) 0.5 qian; Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao) 0.6 qian; Glinis Semen (Nian Mi) a pinch. If caused by wine toxicity, add Puerariae Radix (Ge Gen) 1 qian; if caused by food stagnation, add Crataegi Fructus (Shan Zha) and Hordeum Fructus Germinatus (Mai Ya), each 1 qian; if urinary obstruction exists, add Polyporus (Chi Ling) and Tugestici Pericarpium (Fu Pi), each 1 qian, using Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Cong Bai) as a guide.
