Whenever a patient suffers from sores and toxins, feeling distressed in the heart region, or experiencing nausea/vomiting, or being unconscious and unable to speak, this is known as *Du Wa Gong Xin* (Toxic vapors attacking the Heart). Immediately use *Huxin San* (Heart-Protecting Powder) (see sections on various formulas for carbuncles and toxins). Administer frequently. Continue until most vomiting stops and consciousness clears, then administer *Xingxiao Wan* (Awakening and Eliminating Pills) (see same section above) to calm the pathogenic momentum. If preparation of Huxin San is not feasible in time, urgently administer the following alternative prescription: A toad (*Lai Xia Ma*), split open and applied to the heart region; this is also excellent. If no toad is available, a chicken may be used. However, none compare to the efficacy of the toad.
There are cases where a person develops painful sores all over the body, especially severe in the hands and feet, adhering to clothes and bedding such that sleep is impossible. Use two to three *jin* of *Changpu* (Acorus tatarinowii Rhizome), dry it, grind it into powder, sprinkle it on the sleeping mat, cover with blankets, and sleep. This prevents adherence to clothing and facilitates sleep; recovery occurs within five to six days.
Alternative prescription: Garlic paste and soil from a cesspit (see sections on carbuncles and curses) are both effective.
*Jinyin San* (Gold and Silver Powder): Specifically treats malignant sores with extreme itching. Take one *liang* of *Liuhuang* (Sulfur), melt it in a copper vessel over a lamp flame (strictly avoid stove fire or furnace heat), add [text missing], and apply externally.
*Baihua Gao* (White Flower Ointment): Specifically treats malignant sores with extreme itching extending to the bone. Take one *jin* of *Xiangyou* (Sesame Oil) and one hundred segments of *Qinghuai Zhi* (Green Locust Twig). Gradually boil in the oil until extremely charred and black. Remove the locust twigs, strain thoroughly to remove dregs. Add one *dou* of *Huangcu* (Yellow Vinegar) and one and a half *liang* of *Qianfen* (Lead Carbonate). When removed from fire and slightly warm, add processed *Ruxiang* (Frankincense) and processed *Moyao* (Myrrh) (processing methods see "Essentials of Medicinal Substances" section), *Baihuashe* (Bungarus multicinctus or Daboia siamensis if unavailable, i.e., *Wuzaoshe*), *Ercha* (Catechu) each three *qian*, *Chaonao* (Camphor) one *liang*, and genuine *Shexiang* (Musk) one *qian* (less can also be used). Grind all together into an extremely fine powder, [text missing] has [text missing].
Alternative prescription: *Zaojiao* (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit) (must be whole pieces) heated on fire and ironed onto the affected area stops itching immediately. For broken sores, wash with decoction of *Aiye* (Artemisia argyi Leaf); this is very effective.
One piece of *Zhusha* (Cinnabar) ground into powder, taken together with several *Daohui Chong* (Backward-moving worms), ground in the palm of the hand into a mud-like consistency, and applied to the sore causes the worms to immediately return to their original place. *Daohui Chong* mostly grow in salty soil at the base of old walls; their burrows resemble those of mole ants. These worms move backward, hence the name *Daohui Chong*. Sprinkle soil to find them naturally. This prescription was transmitted from an old monk from the Western Regions and has been tested repeatedly with consistent success.
