Insert the heart of a leek into the left nostril for males or the right nostril for females, penetrating six to seven inches, until the eyes open and bleeding occurs, indicating revival. Alternatively, crush fresh leeks to extract juice and instill it into the nasal cavity. Inspect the inner surface of the upper lip for granules resembling millet seeds; puncture them with a needle and remove them. Alternatively, blow powder of Zaojiao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit; *Gleditsiae Fructus*) or Sheng Banxia (Raw Pinellia Rhizome; *Pinelliae Rhizoma*)—approximately the size of a bean—into both nostrils. Burn a charcoal stove, splash aged vinegar onto the hot coals, and allow the patient to inhale the vinegar fumes to regain consciousness. Hold the patient's hands firmly to prevent fright. Alternatively, instill vinegar into the nasal cavity or smoke the nose with incense from burning Camphor Wood (*Cinnamomi Cortex*); this is also effective.
This prescription can be used for "sleep demon death" (apparent death) and death due to evil qi invasion.
Apply the blood of a white-feathered black-boned chicken to the chest, and boil the chicken to make a decoction for oral administration; this is highly effective. Alternatively, drip blood from the chicken comb into the mouth, then cut open the same chicken and apply it over the epigastrium/heart area. Once the chicken has cooled, bury it. This is very effective.
Administer Huisheng Dan (Revival Pill; see section on Traumatic Injuries), and the patient will revive immediately. It is truly an immortal pill.
Another prescription: Warm and administer one or two cups of pure wine; the patient will recover naturally. Alternatively, blow a bean-sized amount of raw Sheng Banxia (Raw Pinellia Rhizome; *Pinelliae Rhizoma*) powder into both nostrils.
Crush Baidu Dou (Croton Seed; *Crotonis Fructus*), wrap it in cotton paper, press to extract the oil, form it into a wick, burn it to produce smoke, and fumigate the nose. After a moment, expectoration of phlegm and blood will occur, leading to recovery. Alternatively, blow a bean-sized amount of raw Sheng Banxia (Raw Pinellia Rhizome; *Pinelliae Rhizoma*) powder into both nostrils.
Treat according to the above Phlegm-Jue (Phlegm Obstruction) prescription.
The prescription is found in Volume XIV, Stroke Section; alternatively, treat according to the above Phlegm-Jue (Phlegm Obstruction) prescription.
For cases caused by visiting temples, attending funerals, or visiting the sick: Use Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root; *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*) weighing seven qian. Soak in hot water, remove skin and navel, and grind into powder. Divide into two doses. For each dose, decoct three cups of wine until reduced to one cup. If Fuzi is unavailable, mix half a cup of Shengjiang Zhi (Fresh Ginger Juice; *Zingiberis Recensis Succus*) with wine, boil vigorously for a hundred times, and administer continuously in two doses to restore consciousness. Alternatively, treat according to the above Phlegm-Jue (Phlegm Obstruction) prescription.
Mix Liu Huang (Sulfur; *Sulfur)* one liang and Yan Xiao (Saltpeter; *Natrii Nitras*) five qian, grind finely, and divide into three doses. Decoct in good wine until smoke rises. Administer warm. Repeat the dose after a short interval to stabilize the condition.
In this syndrome where the patient is unconscious, do not move the patient; movement may render rescue impossible. Immediately set off large firecrackers at the head and feet. Place one near the top of the head and one at the soles of the feet, igniting them simultaneously. The patient will naturally awaken unharmed. This applies to all severities and has proven miraculous in repeated trials.
