Liu Zhu (Flowing Abscess) manifests at unpredictable locations, presenting as lumps or nodules with diffuse swelling and no distinct head. The skin color remains unchanged; it may be painful or painless. Over time, it ruptures and the pathogenic factors spread. If bumps suddenly appear on the body, characterized by redness, swelling, and migration, it is named You Feng Dan Du (Wandering Wind Erysipelas), which differs from Liu Zhu and should not be confused with it. This condition involves toxins emerging from the Yin aspect, caused by phlegm obstructing the clear pathways, combined with deficiency-cold of Qi and Blood leading to coagulation. It is categorized into two types: Cold Phlegm and Qi Toxin. In the initial stage, Er Chen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) is decocted together with Yang He Wan (Yang-Harmonizing Pill); after several doses, the lesion can completely resolve. Following resolution, Xiao Jin Dan (Little Gold Pill) seven pills are taken consecutively to prevent recurrence. If the skin color changes slightly and severe, unbearable pain occurs, Yang He Tang (Yang-Harmonizing Decoction) must be taken to alleviate pain, allowing established pus to rupture without intense pain; this is a method for transforming a major abscess into a minor one. If the affected area becomes slightly soft, it can be punctured with a needle. If the pus is predominantly white, apply Yang He Gao (Yang-Harmonizing Plaster). However, after rupture, the toxin and phlegm may spread, leading to varied clinical presentations. Therefore, within five days of initial rupture, take ten pills of Xiao Jin Dan to prevent future complications. Subsequently, alternate between Xi Huang Wan (Rhino-Resin Pill) and Yang He Tang morning and evening until the toxin and phlegm are completely eliminated. Even without specific tonification, efficacy is assured; this has been repeatedly tested and verified. For children unable to take decoctions, dissolve Xiao Jin Dan orally during the initial stage until the lesion resolves. For cases where pus has already formed, daily administration of resolving agents allows painless rupture. Once the toxic qi is fully expelled, use Bao Yuan Tang (Protect-Origin Decoction) [see section on Carbuncles and Sores] with 0.5 qian of Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark), taken daily to conclude treatment, yielding miraculous effects. For pregnant women, inquire about the gestational age; refer to supplementary prescriptions if necessary.
Yang He Tang (Yang-Harmonizing Decoction): Treats Ru Yan (Breast Cancer), Shi Rong (Loss of Glory/Scrofula), Shi Ju (Stone Abscess), E He (Malignant Nodule), Tan He (Phlegm Nodule), Luo Li (Scrofula), Liu Zhu (Flowing Abscess), Heng Xuan (Transverse Stricture), and all Yin Ju (Yin Abscesses) presenting with pale, flat lesions. This is the sacred medicine for treating Yin Abscesses. Universally effective and infallible; cherish it. Ingredients: Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 1 liang, Zhen Lu Jiao Jiao (True Deer Antler Glue) 3 qian, Shang Rou Gui (Superior Cinnamon Bark) 1 qian, Gan Cao (Licorice Root) 1 qian, Pao Jiang (Baked Ginger) 0.5 qian, Ma Huang (Ephedra Stem) 0.5 qian. Decoct in water and take orally. After ingestion, drink several cups of good wine. Strictly abstain from sexual intercourse. Continue medication until cure. Suitable for both winter and summer; do not arbitrarily alter dosages. For patients with extreme deficiency, double the dosage of Rou Gui and Pao Jiang, or add Fu Zi (Aconite Lateral Root) for better effect. Additionally, Jiang Yong Huo Ming Yin (Descend-Yong Life-Saving Decoction) from the carbuncle formulas also treats Yin Abscesses, using up to 1.5 qian each of Rou Gui and Pao Jiang, as Yin-Cold coagulation requires such potent warming agents. Consult and adjust accordingly.
Yang He Jie Ning Gao (Yang-Harmonizing Resolution-Nourishing Plaster): Treats all ruptured Yin Abscesses with malignant toxins; efficacy is like an elixir, precious beyond measure, do not underestimate. Also effective for Malaria (Nüe Ji) and Frostbite (Dong Chuang).
Ingredients: Fresh Da Li Zi Gen Ye Geng (Root, Leaf, and Stem of Arctii Fructus/Burdock) 3 jin, Huo Bai Feng Xian Hua Geng (Fresh White Balsam Apple Stem/Nail Flower) 4 liang. Boil in 10 jin of Sesame Oil (Ma You). Add Di Long (Earthworm), Mu Bie Zi (Momordica Seed), Su He Xiang (Styrax Resin), etc., stirring evenly. This formula is miraculous for all ulcerative Yin Abscesses; frostbite resolves overnight; three applications cure ulcers; apply to the back for malaria. Musk (She Xiang) is the most expensive ingredient. If cost prohibits full preparation, omit musk during plaster making; instead, add a few li of musk to each patch when applying.
Xi Huang Wan (Rhino-Resin Pill): Treats Shi Ju (Stone Abscess), E He (Malignant Nodule), Shi Rong (Loss of Glory), Luo Li (Scrofula), Ru Yan (Breast Cancer), Liu Zhu (Flowing Abscess), Heng Xuan (Transverse Stricture), Fei Yong (Lung Abscess), Xiao Chang Yong (Small Intestine Abscess), and all rotting Yin Abscesses. A miraculous prescription with repeated success. Ingredients: Zhi Ru Xiang (Processed Frankincense) 1 liang, Zhi Mo Yao (Processed Myrrh) 1 liang, She Xiang (Musk) 3 fen, Xi Niu Huang (Rhino Horn Calculus) 3 fen. Grind into fine powder. Take 1 liang of yellow rice porridge, mash thoroughly, mix with the powder, and form pills the size of millet seeds. Dry in the sun (avoid fire roasting). Take 3 qian per dose, washed down with warm aged wine.
Xiao Jin Dan (Little Gold Pill): Treats initial stages of Liu Zhu (Flowing Abscess), E He (Malignant Nodule), Tan He (Phlegm Nodule), Luo Li (Scrofula), Ru Yan (Breast Cancer), Heng Xuan (Transverse Stricture), and all unnamed Yin Abscesses. Miraculous and infallible. Contains Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung); do not take concurrently with Ren Shen (Ginseng), Gao Li Shen (Korean Ginseng), or Dang Shen (Codonopsis).
Ingredients: Bai Jiao Xiang (Maple Tree Resin/Olibanum equivalent), Cao Wu (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root), Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung), Di Long (Earthworm), Zhi Mu Bie Zi (Processed Momordica Seed) each 1.5 liang; Zhi Mo Yao (Processed Myrrh), Zhi Ru Xiang (Processed Frankincense) each 1 liang. Grind into fine powder, bind with honey, and form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 3 qian per dose, washed down with wine. For initial Liu Zhu unresponsive to decoctions, use this pill.
Zi Long Wan (Dragon Pill / Kong Xian Dan): Equivalent to Kong Xian Dan from Chen Wuzhe's *San Yin Fang*. Treats pulling and hook-like pain in the neck, chest, hypochondrium, back, waist, and bones; Liu Zhu resembling a bitter plum pit, appearing intermittently, rushing to the throat causing suffocation; or fascial lumps on the whole body resembling pomegranates or chestnuts, with unchanged skin color, painless but feeling sour and numb. May spontaneously ulcerate and drain salivary fluid, persisting for years with chronic sinuses/fistulas, caused by phlegm stagnation in meridians. Also treats Luo Li (Scrofula), Yu Kou Bian Du (Fish-Mouth Abscess/Groin Abscess), Tie Gu Yin Ju (Bone-Adhering Yin Abscess). Miraculous efficacy. Ingredients: Zhi Gan Sui (Processed Kansui Root) [preparation see Materia Medica], Da Ji (Great Ephedra Root) [boiled through, bone removed, dried, avoid stir-frying], Bai Jie Zi (White Mustard Seed) in equal parts. Grind into fine powder, bind with flour paste, form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 5-7 pills per dose with warm water. This formula powerfully expels phlegm-fluid retention; use with caution in deficient patients.
Ba Du Fa (Toxin-Extracting Method): Treats carbuncles, sores, and malignant wounds that have ulcerated and failed to heal for a long time. Use a live Bu Lai Xia Ma (Toad) (do not use those with red eyes or lacking the 'eight-character' pattern on the abdomen). Cut open the abdomen, make several punctures (including intestines), and apply directly over the wound. Change once daily for mild cases, twice daily for severe cases. Healing occurs within a few days.
The above formulas represent the Linwu Shanren family's generational excellent methods for Yin Abscesses, a unique secret passed down through millennia. Medicines act immediately, bringing swift cures, truly possessing the power to revive the dead. No ancient or contemporary formulas for Yin Abscesses surpass these. Those dedicated to saving lives should treasure them carefully and not neglect them.
Hui Yang Yu Long Gao (Return-Yang Jade Dragon Plaster): Treats all Yin Abscesses and malignant toxins. Stops pain in painful lesions; induces pain in painless ones to accelerate healing; aids healing in ruptured lesions. For any Yin Abscess where previous Yang He plasters are insufficient or too costly to prepare, this plaster and the subsequent Zhen Jun Miao Tie San both yield extraordinary effects. For severe cases like Breast Cancer or dangerous Yin Abscesses unresponsive to other treatments, stick to Yang He plasters. Ingredients: Sheng Cao Wu (Raw Aconite) 3 liang, Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) 2 liang (baked), Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica) 1 liang, Nan Xing (Arisaema Cum Bile) 1 liang, Chi Shao (Red Peony Root) 1 liang. Grind into powder, mix with green onion juice, and apply externally.
Zhen Jun Miao Tie San (True Lord's Miraculous Adhesive Powder): Same efficacy as the above Yu Long Gao. Ingredients: Hao Liu Huang (Good Sulfur) 3 liang, Qiao Mai (Buckwheat) 2 liang, Hui Mian (Ash Flour) 1 liang. Grind into fine powder, mix with water, knead into small cakes, dry, and store. When using, grind finely, mix with fresh well water for application on intact skin, or sesame oil for ulcerated areas.
Tie Yun Fa (Iron-Ironing Method): Treats Breast Cancer, Liu Zhu (Flowing Abscess), Shi Rong (Loss of Glory), Luo Li (Scrofula), E He (Malignant Nodule), Tan He (Phlegm Nodule), and all initial-stage Yin Abscesses not yet formed. Use 2-3 iron sickles used for striking sparks. Heat them extremely hot on a stone. Apply alternately to the affected area (iron in the direction of flow, not against it). Initial application causes slight pain; prolonged use stops pain and eliminates toxins. Effective for all types of Yin Abscesses.
Feng Shi Jiu Fa (Wind-Dampness Moxibustion Method): Miraculous for initial-stage Yin Abscesses. Formula see Bone and Sinew Section.
Gan Du San (Toxin-Expelling Powder): Treats initial diffuse swelling without a head on legs and knees near bones, with unchanged skin color, slight soreness/pain, or long-term formation of sinuses/fistulas. Formula see Carbuncle Treatment Section "Moving Toxins".
