On the first day of the twelfth lunar month, collect five or six pig gallbladders. Place Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan), Alumen (Baifan), and Natrii Sulfas Exsiccatus (Fenghuaxiao), each weighing five qian, into the pig gallbladders. Wrap them in blue paper. Dig a hole one chi deep in the ground, suspend a bamboo pole horizontally, and hang the wrapped gallbladders on the pole. Cover it with an object to secure it. Wait until the beginning of spring (Lichun) to take them out and let the wind dry them. Remove the gallbladder skin and blue paper, and grind the medicines together into an extremely fine powder. If suffering from sore throat, blow this medicine into the throat day and night. Adding a small amount of Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) is even better.

This formula is extremely effective for acute conditions such as pharyngeal swelling (Houzhong) and laryngeal closure (Houbi). For a single herb, place Cnidii Fructus (Shechuangzi) into a new tobacco pipe and inhale it like smoke; when the smoke reaches the mouth and throat, laryngeal closure will immediately open. In critical cases of severe sore throat where no medicine is available late at night, forcefully pulling the hair at the vertex of the head can instantly relieve the blockage. This also applies to bald individuals by pulling the scalp at the vertex.

Sores in the throat and rotting of the nostrils, which are not syphilitic sores (Yangmei Du Chuang), are named Tianbaiyi. Take one white plum (burned until carbonized but retaining its nature), Alumen Calcinarium (Kufan) one qian, Manis Squama (Chuanshanjia) five fen, and Realgar (Xionghuang) five fen. Grind them into an extremely fine powder and blow it into the throat day and night for natural recovery.

This treats sore throat with rotting and redness, swollen tongue, bleeding gums, ulcerated alveolar mucosa, as well as oral ulcers in men, women, and children, and gan gangrene (Zouma Yagan). Use Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai) one qian, Borax (Pengsha) one qian, Menthae Haplocalycis Herba Powder (Longnao Bohe Mo) five fen, Humanis Calx (Renzhongbai) one qian, Camelliae Semen Preparatum (Fenkou Ercha) one qian, Natrii Sulfas (Yuanmingfen) one qian, Pilulae Aselli (Mabo) five fen, and Borneolum Syntheticum (Mejie Bingpian) five fen. Grind into an extremely fine powder and blow into the throat with a bamboo tube day and night for sore throat. Apply to oral and lingual ulcers for excellent effect. For severe cases, add Bos Taurus Calculus (Xihuang) three fen and Margarita (Zhenzhu) five fen for faster efficacy.

This comprehensively treats various dangerous forms of throat wind (Houfeng) and trismus (Yaguan Jinbi), proving effective upon repeated trials. It is miraculous. Select a large bunch of robust, fresh Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Tuniuxi, specifically Duniuxi), ensuring it has not touched water or iron. Break and crush it to extract the natural juice, adding Mi Dan Bi (Note: Textual ambiguity, translated literally).

Crush Periplocae Semen (Zhuyazaojiao) with vinegar to extract the juice, drip four or five spoons into the throat. After profuse expectoration of phlegm and saliva, blow Yuanzhu Dan into the throat. Then, crush the remaining vinegar-soaked soap beans and apply the paste to the outside of the painful neck area. Replace when dry. This will rupture the tonsillar abscess (Rumei) and open the laryngeal closure, curing the condition with great efficacy.

Another prescription: Grind soap beans into a fine powder, one qian. Mix with egg white to form a glue-like consistency, swallow slowly to induce expectoration of phlegm and saliva.

Another prescription: Crush slug (Yanyou, commonly known as鼻涕虫) with aged salted plum or dried plum flesh. Hold in the mouth to draw out toxic saliva and spit it out completely, which is highly effective.

Another prescription: Crush the root of Qingliangyu Oldhamii (Wannianqing) to extract juice and administer orally. These are all excellent methods for inducing expectoration.

In treating dangerous throat conditions such as locked-throat wind (Suohou Feng) and laryngeal closure, the primary strategy is always to induce expectoration of phlegm and saliva, through which many patients survive.

Another prescription: Grind raw Alumen (Sheng Baifan) into an extremely fine powder, five fen. Take one egg, separate the white from the yolk. Mix the alum powder into the egg white, stir evenly, and instill into the throat. This is highly effective.
