This is an essential medicine for treating plague (epidemic febrile diseases). Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, 4 qian, stir-fried with wine), Quan Chantui (Whole Cicada Slough, 2 qian), Guang Yujin (Curcuma Aromatica Rhizome, 6 fen), and Sheng Dahuang (Raw Rheum Palmatum Rhizome, 8 qian) are all ground into a fine powder.
Ming Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 liang), Chuan Lian (Coptis Chinensis Rhizome, 8 qian), Jianghuang (Turmeric Rhizome, 2 qian), and Badou (Croton Seed, 1 qian, skin and oil removed) are all ground into a fine powder, mixed with water paste to form pills the size of Torreya Seed.
When one initially feels swelling and pain in the throat, use Pengsha (Borax) immediately, hold it in the mouth until dissolved, swallow with saliva, which ensures safety without danger.
Another prescription: Use one grain of Badou (Croton Seed), wrap it well in cotton, and insert it into the nostril; for males, use the left nostril, and for females, the right nostril.
Do not use a needle [to puncture], lest you fear penetrating the throat. Urgently use Yazao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit) ground into fine powder and blown into the nose to induce sneezing; the swelling will naturally rupture. Alternatively, mix Yazao powder with vinegar to make a thick paste and apply it to the outside of the neck; reapply when dry, and the swelling will break. Or still use the bark from near the root of a plum tree, grind it with water, and apply it to the outside of the throat; all are extremely effective.
Maque Shi (Sparrow Feces, 21 grains) and a little Zhatang (Rock Sugar) are mixed to form three pills. Each time use one pill, wrap it in thin cotton, and swallow it; for severe cases, swallowing up to three pills will result in recovery.
Dengcao (Juncus Effusus Stem) is burned to ash, added with Bingpian (Borneol), and blown into the affected area; this is extremely effective.
Additionally, if red hairs are seen growing on the head, pluck them out, and the toxin will resolve itself.
Additionally, grind Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit) into powder, mix with vinegar, and apply to the sole of the foot (Yongquan); the toxin will descend.
Additionally, burn Yanxi (Salt) until red-hot, grind into powder, mix with warm water, dip Duckchi Mao (Duck Wing Feather) into it, and sweep the affected area to induce vomiting of phlegm and saliva; do not puncture or break it.
