Sha disease is not solely caused by the Six Qi (six climatic factors) and Seven Emotions, but can also result from irregular diet, overwork or lack of exertion, contact with noxious substances, or infection with epidemic pathogens. Sha has no fixed pulse pattern; any pulse that does not correspond to the symptoms is considered a Sha pulse. It also lacks fixed symptom patterns; regardless of whether it stems from Wind, Food Stagnation, Fatigue, or Phlegm, if standard treatments for these conditions fail, it should be diagnosed as Sha disease.
When presenting with headache, leg soreness, fever, spontaneous sweating, cough, and abdominal pain, this indicates an invasion of seasonal Qi. It should not be treated purely with wind-dispelling methods as in common colds. Instead, scraping therapy (Gua Sha) should be performed first, using Formula Jin 1.
In cases of dizziness, nausea, profuse sweating like rain, a surging and forceful pulse, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain that is either tight or loose, Formula Jin 2 is the primary treatment. For persistent summer-heat distension, Formula Jin 3 may be used. Formulas such as Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction) and Liuyi San (Six-to-One Powder) are also optional choices.
For abdominal pain accompanied by cold hands and feet, [scraping/treatment] is indicated. If caused by contact with noxious substances, use Formula Jin 4.
For abdominal pain with warm hands and feet, bleeding will bring relief. If caused by stagnation of Qi, use Formula Jin 5.
This condition suddenly starts from the waist and legs, spreading upward to cause heart and abdominal pain. Cases where the upper body is hot and the lower body is cold are easier to treat; those where the upper body is cold and the lower body is hot are difficult to treat. Immediately have a strong person use their warm hands to vigorously stroke downwards along the limbs, and apply moxibustion or heat compression to the soles of the feet. Quickly scrape the popliteal fossae (back of the knees) with oil and a coin until petechiae appear. Then, prick the skin with a porcelain needle to release saliva/phlegm, followed by pricking the tips of all ten toes to induce bleeding. If no blood flows, repeat beating, stroking, scraping, and needling until blood appears. Subsequently, administer one qian of Talcum Powder (Huashi Mo) mixed with one liang of Sesame Oil. After ingestion, vomiting of saliva, phlegm, and retained food will occur, naturally leading to the unblocking of urination and defecation, and gradual warming of the lower body. If heart and abdominal pain persist, use equal parts of Caulis Cistanches (Zao Xin Tu - note: Zao Xin Tu is Fuligin, Caulis Cistanches is Rou Cong Rong, text says Zao Xin Tu which is Fuliginis Cortex), Areca Seed (Bing Lang), Patchouli (Huo Xiang), Akebia Stem (Mu Tong), Aurantium Fruit (Zhi Ke), Reed Juice (Lu Su), and Amomum Fruit (Sha Ren). Add thirty cun of Juncus Effusus (Deng Xin), decoct in Yin-Yang Water, and take orally. This method has proven effective.
If faint red spots resembling measles appear on the skin, the Sha toxin is in the muscle and surface layers. Use external scraping and internal administration of Formula Jin 5.
With dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, and purple macules on the body, the Sha toxin has entered the flesh and blood levels. Urgently apply scraping and bloodletting; delay will allow the pathogen to enter the interior and cause complications. Use Formula Jin 5.
