Another prescription: Close the eyes and apply hot cow dung to the affected area several times a day; it will heal in a few days.
For the condition where the black part of the eye is dull and immobile: Use genuine Western Buffalo Calculus (Xiniu Huang) 5 fen, processed Rhizoma Typhonii (Baifuzi), Cinnamon Twig (Rougui), whole Scorpion (Quanxie - stir-fried), Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), and Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) in equal parts. Grind into fine powder and take with warm wine.
This condition is called "Stitch Eye" (Touzhen Yan). On the back at the Gaohuang acupoint (on both sides of the third thoracic vertebra), there are red spots. Prick them with a needle, and it will heal immediately. If not pricked, burning the affected area with a rush light stick will also cure it. If no spots are visible, frequently scrape the area with the back of a large comb until the red spots appear.
Another prescription: Blood of bedbugs, applied point-by-point several times daily; its efficacy is miraculous.
Another prescription: Apply snake skin to the affected area; it heals immediately.
Another prescription: Grind Bletilla Rhizome (Baiji) into water and apply to the affected area; it is also effective.
Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) 5 qian (crushed), Gardenia Seed (Zhiren) 1 liang, Licorice Root (Gancao) 3 liang, [Text missing] 4 liang (steamed with wine and dried), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) 2 liang (mixed with wine and lightly stir-fried). Grind all into fine powder. For those with strong constitutions, take 2 qian per dose; for the weak, take 1 qian; for children, halve the dose. Take with plain boiled water.
When the white part of the eye suddenly turns completely black, hair becomes stiff as iron, the patient can eat but cannot speak, and resembles drunkenness: This is the "Blood Collapse Syndrome" (Xue Kui Zheng). Use Psoralea Fruit (Wulingzhi) 2 qian, ground into powder, taken with wine.
Lead Oxide (Huandan) 5 fen, mixed with bile from a carp to form a paste; apply to the affected area three to five times, and it will dissipate naturally.
Another prescription: Wrap with medicinal thread (see formulas for carbuncles and sores); it will fall off immediately.
Another prescription: Take silk from a spider that has crossed over a roof ("Crossing-the-River Spider"), wrap it around the affected area; it will fall off immediately. Spiders whose silk spans across roofs are called "Crossing-the-River Spiders."
Another prescription: Grind cherry pits into water and apply to the affected area; it will dissipate naturally.
This condition occurs inside the eyelid skin but outside the flesh. Large ones are like dates, small ones like beans; they move when pushed, the skin color is normal, and they are hard, swollen, but painless. It is suitable to take Huajian Erchen Wan (see formulas for carbuncles and sores). Externally, grind raw Arisaema Rhizome (Sheng Nanxing) with vinegar into a thick juice and apply frequently. Superficial cases resolve in a few days; deeper cases require prolonged application.
The disease is named "Liver Distension" (Gan Zhang). Decoct Qianghuo (Notopterygium Root) into a strong decoction. While hot, first fumigate the eyes, then drink it; the eyeball will retract. Alternatively, burn Qianghuo to produce smoke for fumigation, which is even better.
Another prescription: Wash the eyes several times with newly drawn well water; the eyeball will retract.
Another prescription: Decoct Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Xixin (Asarum), Shengdi (Rehmannia Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), Zaozi (Jujube), and Congbai (Scallion White) in water. Drink the decoction while lying supine for a short while; the eyeball will naturally retract upward.
