It is appropriate to resolve the exterior and induce sweating. Use Wuyao Shunqi San (Aucklandia Decoction to Promote Qi Flow): Wu Yao (Linderae Radix), Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus) each 8 fen; Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 5 fen; Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba) 3 fen, nodes removed (this herb's dosage must be accurate and not excessive; in spring, only 1-2 fen is sufficient); 3 slices of fresh ginger; 1 stalk of green onion. Decoct in water and take orally for recovery.
This condition arises because stomach qi fails to open during menstruation, leading to loss of appetite. It requires opening the stomach; other methods are unsuitable. Only blood from the top of a male duck's head, mixed with wine and drunk, yields immediate effect.
This is named Chang Xun (Intestinal Polyp). It occurs when cold pathogen enters through the anus during menstruation and lodges in the large intestine, causing menstrual blood to coagulate and become scanty. Although menstruation occurs, the volume is low, and the abdomen gradually enlarges resembling pregnancy, presenting as Tai Lou (threatened abortion bleeding). In robust women, it may resolve after half a year as qi becomes abundant; in frail individuals, it inevitably develops into Zhang Disease (distension disease). Use Guizhi Tao Ren Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Peach Kernel Decoction): Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Bing Lang (Arecae Semen) each 1 qian 5 fen; Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Zhi Qiao each 1 qian; Tao Ren (Persicae Semen) 25 grains; Zhi Cao (Prepared Licorice Root) 5 fen. Use fresh ginger and jujube as guides, decoct in water, and take orally. It is also advisable to frequently take Sizhi Xiangfu Wan (Four-Processed Cyperi Pill) (see later). This condition is recorded in *Ling Shu* (Spiritual Pivot), but few people know of it; therefore, it is specifically presented here.
In women, amenorrhea presents with three main patterns. First, if spleen and stomach are damaged, food intake decreases, qi is depleted, and blood is dry, resulting in amenorrhea, the treatment method should tonify the spleen and stomach and nourish qi and blood, waiting for qi to fill and blood to generate so that menstruation resumes naturally. One must not recklessly use emmenagogue agents, or middle qi will be further damaged and yin blood further dried up, leading to Lao Zhai (consumptive disease) which is incurable. This is like demanding a thousand gold from a beggar; beating him daily only hastens his death. Second, due to worry, overthinking, anger, and resentment, causing qi stagnation and blood stasis leading to amenorrhea, the treatment method should relieve qi depression and move blood stasis so menstruation resumes naturally. If tonics are used, qi will become more knotted and blood more coagulated, leading to Zheng Jia (masses) and abdominal fullness. This is like raising a tiger and inviting disaster. Third, if limb obstruction and phlegm-saliva accumulation cause amenorrhea, the treatment method should move qi and guide out phlegm so menstruation can proceed. This constitutes the work of a skilled physician.
