This is called "Lip Fungus Syndrome" (Chun Jun Zheng, 唇菌症), caused by heat-toxin of the Heart and Spleen; it is fatal within a specific timeframe and incurable. Urgently moxa the Shaoshang acupoints (Shao Shang, 少商) on both hands (refer to the section on epistaxis for location), while simultaneously pounding ten live earthworms (Di Long, 地龙), grinding two qian of Evodia fruit (Wu Zhu Yu, 吴茱萸) into powder, adding a little ash flour, mixing with hot vinegar, and applying to the soles of both feet. Bind with cloth, change every half day, until healed. Also use one live toad (La Tan, 癞团).
Another prescription: Refer to Volume 11, Carbuncle and Sore Section, for the "Save Lip Decoction" (Jiu Chun Tang, 救唇汤); taking it is also effective. Applying chicken manure is also excellent.
Refer to sections on tongue and teeth. For mouth ulcers in children, see Pediatrics.
This is called "Blood Hair Syndrome" (Xue Yu Zheng, 血余症). Use one qian of real musk (She Xiang, 麝香), grind into powder, divide into two doses, and take orally for self-healing. Alternatively, consume human hair ash.
This is also called "Hanging Abscess" (Xuan Yong, 悬痈), growing above the mouth, shaped like a purple grape, making tongue movement difficult, mouth opening/closing difficult, nasal bleeding, and intermittent chills and fever. Urgently use equal parts red-hot table salt (Yan Shi, 硇砂 - note: text says salt but implies mineral or processed salt contextually often associated with cauterization, here literal salt) and calcined alum (Ku Fan, 枯矾), grind into fine powder. Dip the tip of a chopstick into it, apply three to five times daily, and it will subside spontaneously.
Someone had extreme itching above the mouth, worsening during meals. Later, a worm dropped down; pulling it out quickly cured it, with no recurrence.

Another prescription: Three fen of calomel (Qing Fen, 轻粉), seven and a half li each of cinnabar (Zhu Sha, 朱砂) and realgar (Ming Xiong, 明雄), four fen of borneol (Bing Pian, 冰片), ground into fine powder. Rinse mouth with mint water or tea first, then blow medicine in; highly effective. Alternatively, treat with Ren Zhong Bai Powder (see Teeth section).
Another prescription: Honey-fried Phellodendron bark (Huang Bo, 黄柏), ground and applied; miraculous effect.
Another prescription: For mouth ulcers caused by ingesting calomel, dissolve three-to-four-year-old aged soy sauce in water and rinse mouth frequently.
