Ear polyp (Erzhi) resembles a cherry or sheep's milk. Ear mushroom (Erxun) resembles a newly sprouted mushroom, with a large cap and small stalk. Ear spike (Erti) resembles a date pit, thin and long, protruding from the ear. All these conditions are caused by the condensation of fire from the Liver meridian, ministerial fire from the Kidney meridian, and accumulated heat from the Stomach meridian. A carbuncle (Ding) growing inside the ear causes stabbing pain like a awl, radiating to the cheek and brain. Upon rupture, bloody fluid drains out. People often treat it as ordinary otalgia, unaware that it is an ear carbuncle. Immediately administer Chan Su Wan (see formulas for carbuncles and toxins) to induce sweating. Then, mix Chan Su Wan with water to form a thick liquid and drip it into the ear. Also, take Huang Lian Xiao Du Yin (see same section).
